Gross Encounters of the Third Kind

Okay, people, I have to warn you. This post is about throwing up. I have been feeling nauseated the whole time at work yesterday. I was queasy on the van ride to our hike destination and I just attributed it to motion sickness again (although I already was feeling it before we left, that is why I needed to go on that hike, for some fresh air). And then we got home to Turkey soup with stewed tomatoes, green beans and celery. I enjoyed the soup, I I picked out the turkey pieces and just enjoyed the veggies and the soup as it made me not feel what I was feeling. So hours went by, I got busy at work and was not able to dwell on the nausea. And then it was time to leave work. As I was driving back to the house, I felt the urgent rise of what I had inside me. I didn't know if I should pull over as it was after 11pm and it was dark and foggy. So I just held it. I didn't try to move my throat or swallow or anything until I got home, ran to the toilet and upchuck it. In my state, I saw blood in my vomit. And I freaked out. Then it dawned on me that they were actually the stewed tomatoes. After a few minutes of release, I felt better but my left temple is throbbing like hell and then I was like, "well, hello, migraine, it's nice to see you again, haven't spent time with you for a while now." So I took two pills and went to bed. I feel much better now but my tummy is still a little off and my head is still kicking it. I still have to work today, then later go on a winding, hour-trip to Boyfriend's dad's Thanksgiving dinner. And maybe do some more upchucking on the side of the road. Have you ever driven and felt the need to throw up? I hope you weren't driving under the influence but did you stop your car and just let it out? Or did you, like me, felt the need to hold it and hoped for the best that you would make it home in time?

I used to be able to tell when I was pregnant by the feeling of nausea I suddenly started having all the time. There were no migraines that went along with it, and it was usually only in the morning, but nevertheless, this is the second time you have tricked me into thinking you were 'with child'. Are you wanting to have a baby or something? My son used to get car sick all the time... I cannot tell you how many times I had to hose the car down when we got home, hehehe. I hate throwing up soooooo much that I always try to keep it from coming up as long as I can... until I get sick of feeling so sick! But this is another instance of taking a stumbling block and using it as a stepping stone... it was hating to vomit that kept me from becoming a heroin addict!

Good one Ziggy. I'm glad such hatred for puke kept you from becoming a heroin addict. I wasn't trying to trick you into thinking I am pregnant with this conversation. The other one, yes, but this one, no. I didn't think about it until I read your entry. But NO, right now, I don't think I want a baby. I can barely take care of myself. And I'm scared. I don't know if you know how I deal with transitions and I am not that good. I'm glad I was able to bring you back to memory lane. Good times with Ziggy and son. The trip back from Boyfriend's dad's house was a blur. Because I was asleep most of the time.

Goodness me SaintAnne! You have certainly been in the wars lately. I have had similar circumstances myself and it can be really, really difficult to hold back too. I have had the moments where I have hung my head out the window like a dig to gulp in air to stop me being sick; to having no choice but to blow chunks there and then. It's a horrible feeling. I am glad you are feeling a little better now and even more happy to hear that it was only tomatoes you threw up and not something more sinister. No wonder you freaked out though! I remember my first time going to the bathroom after eating a lot of fresh asparagus one evening and at this time I didn't know that it could make your pee smell so bad. I honestly thought I was going to die or something and that there was a serious problem internally because of the smell. It's still funny too because even though I now know that asparagus will cause this smell I still panic for a split second whenever I go to the bathroom after eating it, until that little voice reminds me it's the asparagus! I hope you are back to 100% really soon.

I guess I asked for this. What a way to wake up to!!! Conversations about vomit and all. I think I am 90% well today. Since it's my day off, you could add a couple more in there. I don't like asparagus! Eeek. This one will get me running out the door. Thanks, James. I hope no more chunk blowing and scented peeing for you.

Who says I was fickle? No, I'm not... Yes, I am... No, I don't want that defining me... or maybe I do.

My goodness! That was really gross! I am glad that you are feeling much better now. You need rest dear. Try and get it and if if you can manage a leave go for it. As for me, I haven't felt like that recently. It was some time back when I used have real bad times with headaches and migraines but now I am better. It was mostly due to bad food habit and my urge to become slim. TAKE CARE SISI.

Hello mimpi. I am feeling better now this morning. Since it is my day off, I am trying to take things lightly. I think I got my mealtimes down to a regular basis but I guess having Turkey Day for several days didn't help. And although I would be glad to lose some more weight, there really is no sense of urgency. THANK YOU, MOU!

Wow that was really bad that you went home feeling that way, but I guess I would have done that too when I am driving myself. I somehow can control those feelings when I am driving a car myself and really would try my best to get home safe before dumping it all out. I guess you need to rest and if you can try visiting your doctor just to check you out if there is anything troubling your body or it's just the food you ate that made you bad like that. Also try if you can hydrate yourself since vomiting can cause severe dehydration and that could make you even worse than ever. Hope everything will be fine with you and you could attend to your BF's thanksgiving celebration.

I am glad you are now. I think it must be the food that you ate. It's was good that you've thrown it out soon because sometimes when you try not to it would just create more havoc inside you're body.

I don't think it was the food, rsa. I've been feeling nauseated hours before having that soup. That soup was the only one that made me feel better but then I had to throw up. Thanks again, rsa.

I'm feeling much better now, rsa. Thanks. I did go to the dinner the next night and was surprised that I ate quite a bit. I guess having slices of bread during the day that whole time made me okay to eat the same kinds of food again. Thanks again. I am definitely going to the doctor this month to have a check-up. You take care too.

Gross! Yes, once I was so busy at my first job and had no time to eat at all that day and was driving to my second job. It was about 5:30 p.m. and I saw a drive-through, so I picked up a hamburger and a chocolate shake and consumed them in the car while driving from one job to the other. This is not recommended for good driving or for good eating, but there were lots of stop signs and I thought I could pull it off. I finished the hamburger and most of the shake when I realized that I was going to have to pull over. I looked wildly around for something to use. All I could reach fast enough was the cup the milk shake came in. Bleagh. I puked right into what was left of the shake. Then I went around back and found a whole box of kleenex and put them in the bag the meal came in along with my "used" meal. Fortunately there was a trash can on the corner of the street. I wasn't late for work, but I had to run into the ladies room and wash up before signing in. That was the last time I ever ate in the car. Also, even if it is only for a day, I learned that a hamburger and shake are not good foods for breaking a fast.

Too funny, and no I've never thrown up a tomato~! Actually, I still crave burgers, but hardly ever order a milkshake with one.

Boyfriend and I used to go to burger places (not the fast food ones) and try them out. My favorite milkshake is the coffee milkshake at this place in St. Helena. But lately, we haven't been venturing out anywhere for just that reason. Once school is out and he's all settled in, then maybe we could. I think it's somewhere in Spain where they have this big event or tradition of throwing tomatoes at each other for a day, right? I'm surprised I threw up a tomato as well. I absolutely avoided tomatoes before in my life but I've noticed for the last year, my taste buds are changing... and so are my cravings. Thanks, drannhh...

You mean you can't eat fast food in your car, drannhh? I am sure that was one incident to remember and learn from. I only have shakes when I crave them. My tummy is always a bit off when I have them. I think it has to do with the milk but I hope this experience hasn't turned you off from a real good burger and shake at an appropriate time. Fjaril should have read your post too so he can ooh and aah at the strength of women. Going to work, eating while driving, throwing up and then going to second job. Take care, drannhh. Your tomato avatar still looks good to me though.

I'm sure I've had this experience more than once, but the last time I had it I was pregnant. Pregnancy puke is different than normal person puke. You are lucky if you have any warning at all, and there is no way to control it. The moment I felt it coming on I stopped the car and puked. I was lucky I made it out of the car. Pregnancy is interesting. It prepares you for parenthood. You have no control over your body and you don't know what to expect because everything feels so different. It is an experience that is very alien. After the child is born you are more understanding of why they have no ability to control their bodily functions. Its a great learning experience for the expecting mom.

Pregnancy puke does not only happen in the morning, right? So it should not be called morning sickness. I seriously haven't thought about moms' understanding their child's inability to control their bodily functions through their own experiences. Thank you for sharing this one with me, glords. Enjoy your baby!

Well its probably too much information, unless you are planning to have a baby in the next few years... but then again, you asked for it having a discussion about puke. As for your question. Some people suffer from morning sickness all day, and others don't. I suffered all day for 9 months. I hope I'll be more lucky with my next child. I think they call it morning sickness because your morning the fact that life as you knew it is now over. just kidding. I think it is more common to get sick after lying down.

Me and my husband are sick like that too. I haven't been throwing up but it's been coming out another way. I still think I might throw up though. My husband was up every hour puking last night. I think maybe something is going around. Our daughter was vomiting last weekend at my grandmas so maybe she gave it to us.

lol that is impressive being able to "hold it" until you got home! ive been sick before while driving..personally i blame the sandwich that was at the outdoor party..which had mayonnaise. not sure how long it had been sitting there all nice and warm, but thats what i blame! i couldnt hold it though..i started to get that darn feeling and pulled into the first gas station i came across. i had that feeling for about 15 minutes..so i had a bit of time. i dont think ive ever just suddenly threw up without any warning. seems like i always have to go through all the pains and gurgles and blurps..until i finally get to the point of "please just let me throw up, as soon as i do i will feel SO much better!" at the gas station i knew i didnt have to time to wait in line for the stupid bathroom key though..so i pulled to the farthest parking spot and leaned out the door lol! but i did feel a lot better afterwards and finished the remainder of the trip (2hrs) without a problem!

Isn't it impressive, Cinder? But you should know, my house is only about a 15-minute drive from where I work. But I had the unfortunate sense of taking the city streets, not the freeway and I've never waited that LONG for red lights to turn green. I am still confused about the mayo though. I've eaten sandwiches with mayo in them hours after lugging them in my backpack and I haven't had the urge to do what you did. Maybe I'm just used to bad mayo??? I'm glad that you were able to have that release. Vomiting is a surefire way to feel a little better. Thanks, Cinder and stay away from those suspicious-looking sandwiches...

Hello SaintAnne, I hope you're fine now. I had a similar terrible experience but that was long time ago during a pregnancy. I really felt so sick and nauseous that I had to throw up inside the vehicle..eeew! My hubby had to pull over to find first aid which unfortunately impossible for my condition. God bless!

Wow... I hope you're feeling much, much better now. The only time that I experienced that was after a night out with friends. We all had a little too much to drink (I couldn't remember what we were celebreating...) Good thing I didn't bring the car that night and took a cab home. I had to make the driver pullover at the middle of the highway to throwup! Otherwise I'd be vomiting all over the backseat

Hello, alyssa... Oh those old, drinking days. I've had several of those... It was a good thing that you weren't driving your car then, not only because it prevented you from "blessing" it but also as goodwill to all those who were driving that night. I am sure the cabbie was happy to stop for you so you don't have to throw up in his cab. Take care, alyssa and thanks!
