Chirping like a bird, imitating a squirrel, what sounds does your cat make?

I saw a bird in a tree and honestly, it was meowing. My cat was at the base of the tree, chirping like a bird. Weird. My husband said his cat growing up used to make sounds like the squirrels. Is there no end to the talent cats have? What surprising talents has your cat got? Can your cat make sounds that surprise people?

That is so adorable!!!! Haha! I can't say I've ever heard a cat immitate the noise of another animal. I did once have a friend who owned an African Gray parrot as well as several cats. The bird would often imitate the cats and make meowing noises. The bird also did a perfect imitation of their fax machine!

Immitated the fax machine? Now that is a new one. Cats meowing with birds, I think that's a hoot!
My neighbor's bird was funny. Used to invite me in, tell me I was a "pretty girl" and about an hour later announce, "It's time for you to go home." Birds are funny.

Parrots are annoying. When I was a teen, I babysat for a family with a parrot and the darn bird kept imitating the baby crying. I had to get up every few minutes to check if it was the darn bird or really the baby.

I've heard my cats chit chat with birds, flies, etc. They would probably talk to the squirrels too but we don't have any where we live. They make weird noises like they are trying to get the birds or flies attention. Our gray tabby just the other day was making weird sounds when he heard a hummingbird in a tree. That was the first time I had heard him do it. I have 3 other cats and I hear them doing that all the time.

People think I'm crazy, but I'm not. Thanks and welcome to Mylot. I remember having 1l next to my name, seems like only yesterday, now it's a year and a half ago.

That's two people now who have said they can sound like a child crying. That would drive me bonkers and to think I'd never heard of it before!

You are really serious? A cat that chirps and a bird that meows. That's quite an interesting story. Our cat only meows. What is strange about our cat is the fact she wants me to come and stand by her litterbox while she uses it. She won't quit meowing until I do. I mentioned this to the vet and she said that is very strange since cats think it's a personal issue and don't want company. Ok so my cat really loves me but I am not into sharing potty time.

One of our kids adopted the cat when she was a kitten but couldn't take it with her when she moved out of our house. We have had her 12 years. Her litterbox doesn't have a lid or dome on it. She doesn't require my presense each time she visits the litterbox but most of the time when I am awake. She has never been outside except to go to the vet in a cage.

Can't explain it then unless something happened while she was going to the bathroom. Sometimes kittens taken away early or premature or runts of litters have more unique ways of acting than others. Take care.

Yeah, I think someone's catbird got away. My cat makes all kinds of noises.
Did you have this cat all its life? If a cat was attacked or something happened while it was going to the bathroom or it even thinks it could happen, I could see a cat being that way. Does your cat box have a cover or dome so it has more privacy, nothing can sneak up behind it? I have my cat's box in a corner, he only has to keep track of two directions, not 3 or 4. He was a wild cat, so he probably wouldn't use it if I put it in the middle of a room somewhere. He usually goes outdoors, but he looks around a lot before he goes.
