Yesterday we went eating in a restaurant that serves very generous portions. As I am good eater I managed to eat it all. However my wife and I, thought that next time that we go there we should order for one portion and than divide it by two. Even the gateau was served in a big plate. Have you ever went to a restaurant that serves big portions? © ronaldinu 2008

My mom and had split their meal portions very often when they go out to eat. Sometimes because it is cheaper, but most of the time because the portions are more than enough for two people. When I'm trying very carefully to eat healthy, I often split my meal as well.

When I went out with my late mother we used to order the special for the day and two plates and we used to split it, of course it depended on the particular meal, but most of them were too much for one person. We would order and extra soup and coffee and found that most times there was plenty for both of us. Otherwise we would both have to take home doggy bags for the leftovers. Apparently the cost of the food is not a big portion of the cost of a meal in a restaurant so they tend to give generous portions to keep the customer happy. When I was in university and eating in the dining hall I found most of the serving staff were large and gave generous portions. There was one skinny server who only gave small portions so I avoided her. I guess the bigger we get, the more generous we will be in giving out large portion size.

You don't tend to find many of these restaurants who are generous with their portions, certainly not in the UK and certainly not at the restaurants I used to frequent, however there was a wonderfully run place where we always used to go to and because we went their often the plates would be piled up with the most tenderest of meats and which would fill half the plate, and the vegetables well they certainly didn't skimp on those, when you had a side dish of chips on top it was like, hey lets share the chips around because there simply wasn't enough room on the plate. Sadly the restaurant got taken over and it was never the same, besides the food shrunk!

I think to many resturant now a days serve big portions. That is teh problem in the USA. We are so custom to gettingthis big orders. That when we don't. We feel like we are still hungry. On top of that most Americans were taught to eat everything on their plates. So, we figure if we pay for it. We might as well eat it all. As for me, I tend to take left overs home for a second meal. But I am frugal that way.

The diner down the road from us serves big portions. What I do is cut everything in half and take half home. That way, I have it for two meals. Sometimes they have a small and a large choice, so I take the small because it costs less. Haven't been there in awhile because I haven't had any $. But I should have $ for bills and eventually other things soon.

I find that many restaurant or eating places always seem to put way too much on a plate. I hate to waste food but then I always end up eating way too much and feeling sick! I think that they should have different sized portions to suit different peoples appetites!

I think I did but I don't remember when and what restaurant. Just curious, was the meal good? Is it worth your money, as far as the taste and price? I assume the quantity is enough since they serve large portions..

The Chinese restaurants here used to serve alot of food. But now because of the prices in Food the portions has been decrease. Maybe you can follow your wife advise but you know how it goes if persons started doing that then those hefty portion will be going down.

Oh yes, and I very much appreciated it because many times in these restaurants the prices for these generous portions are very reasonable. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

I am not a much eater...... as I am too small only 5 feet, I cannot eat much.... if I go to a restaurant, I just order only a minimal amount of food that I can eat.... thats it..... and I do not go further....

Nowadays those are rare and far between to find places such as that anymore. I think there is only one place even close to that kinda place and it is Bob Evans their plates are huge and their servings are also. And the food is always a pure pleasure to enjoy..

yes, to quite a few. The surprising thing is that the mid-range places that we can afford, all serve really generous portions which are good enough to be shared between two people. But its those expensive places which as it is over charge, that the portions are really miserly. Wonder how a single person feels full after having any dish there? Anyway, we mainly take rice dishes so sharing that is not a problem at all. Even the side dishes can be split and if we want so, the soups and dessert will be split and served in two bowls.

ya i've been to many restaurants which serve in decent portions that equals the money...but there are many restaurants which put the prices very high but serve in small portions.....but we should never compromise quality for quantity.....

Eat all you can is what they say. They serve generous amount of food but if you are not careful this big amount of food can harm us too.Just like what happened to a friend. He was so satisfied and very much full when his blood pressure went high.So after eating sumptously He came to the hospital for admission.I cannot eat that big amount of food when served for us two only.I have a small stomach I easilly get full that is why.
