How old is your computer? Have your computers lasted over the years or have you had to get rid of some of them and get new ones? One of my computers I bought in 1999 and it is still going strong. Another one of our computeres got virused and we had to get rid of it and get a new one.

I'm not an addicted of changing computers in life. I my computer is working i don't want to change it. If i have some extra money, and i want to play something that requires additional video resources or other things, like RAM OR Hard Disk, then i buy them by parts.
Have a nice day!

I hated Vista at first when we upgraded from xp. I still like xp better, even after a year of using Vista, but Microsoft is not going to be giving tech support to xp for long. They want people to upgrade.

Yes, behind all those selling is hidden a huge marketing strategy. They show you the game, but in order to play it, you have to buy the new products, made and put up to sells by another partner of the company who made the game. Also, this is trues for the operating systems.
Have a nice day!

My notebook is about 2 years old already and it is almost running out of space on the 120GB HDD. It is running Vista Ultimate with 2GB RAM and it is doing well so far although sometimes it would be choking when the SQL server kicks in...
At the same time, last month, I bought a second hand Celeron 2.2 desktop computer after my desktop had a mother board failure. The cost of that second hand computer was only about $80 and it comes with 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, a CD ROM drive, USB ports and a Network card. I also bought a USB mouse for $3. Luckily I still have the old Toshiba LCD monitor and the old keyboard to go along with it. It was a good buy as far as I am concerned. I am now looking at a $30 second hand Pentium 3 desktop computer that is still on sale at the same store...
Looking at the computer, we could not help it that they would age really fast. The advancement of technology that changes within the seconds can be scary sometimes. Even now, there are already many new things about the computer that we need to catch up.
Have a nice day and cheers!

Computers are sorta like babies, I guess. We feed them and they grow out of their "clothes" before we know it we are having to buy more space. Then they grow up too fast and we find ourselves having to push them out of the nest to make room for the "new baby." lol

I have had this computer since 2003. I don't know how old it is actually, because its bit and pieced together lol. It gets the job done as far as I need it to, so its great for me. I have found some new techniques on keeping it maintained, so I don't even wipe it but once a year, and that is only if I am having really bad problems with it. I want a new computer, really I just want a flatscreen monitor because I am scared one day my flimsy desk will give way lol. But for the time being I am happy with the computer that I have.

I agree. "Why mess with success?" is my policy. I don't want to have to buy and learn a new system until my old one ceases to do a good job.

I would love to have a new pc in the house for me. If I do get enough money saved, it is what I really want. I have had my computer for four years now and it was used when I got it. Though it works pretty good, I would love a better fast pc that can do more. My daughter got a laptop for her birthday last year and it can do more than mine and I have to use hers to download and burn movies and cds. I would like to get one that can play the new games as my son can't but many newer games because my video card is too old.

I sometimes forget how limited the older models were, that is, until I use my old Windows 98 computer and dial-up internet. The 98 won't even configure for the dsl without putting new parts in, which we probably won't do because we have the newer system. But I'm like you. My kids use the new system and I am mosty stuck with the older one when they're home from school. We can't use dial-up and dsl at the same time, either.

We have a newer desktop. My hubby bought it for my Christmas present last year. We have an older model downstairs. I think it is from 2000. It works well enough for my daughter to use.

Thanks for your response. I use my older model for word processing because it is far away from the TV and I can concentrate. Our newer model is right next to the TV and has our dsl connection. My kids use it more.

My personal computer is a new MacBook Pro. But, my servers are 8 and 5 years old, and they work fine. At work, we have some old Pentium II machines in reserve that run XP just fine. I do have one question: Why, oh WHY would you replace a computer due to a simple virus infection? If nothing else, wipe the drive, reinstall Windows, and move on. If it infected BIOS, I could understand but very few viri do this, and it IS fixable.

I got my computer in June 2006. I guess that means at the rate of six years a computer, I am due for a new one in June 2012. Before that I used my husband's old one, and it was four years old when I got it, so it lasted six years. My husband's computer is almost six years old, so it is due to retirement pretty soon. But I intend to get a Mac the next time.

My computer is 7 years old
.It is still working fine for me right now.I'm planning to upgrade the computer to a core2duo processor with a lcd monitor.WHy did you get rid of the virus computer? You could have installed an antivirus and deleted all the viruses. If that was not possible you could format the hard disk and install everything again.

well this is my 3rd computer since 2000. and i can say that my 3rd computer is the best as it has working for the past 3 and a half years. I am really happy with this computer as it has hardly given me any problems except for some minor viruses which is quite common but i was able to easily get rid of it. btw the specs are:
P4 3.2ghz, 80gb hdd, 512mb ram, DVDRW...

I'm still using the HP brio ba410. I think your system is a year older than mine. The system still lives with upgrades and it's totally not for gaming. just for surfing, encoding, chatting, downloading. Still works great.
