Everyone wants to earn money from home, but no one's looking to own a business?

I constantly see forums, blogs, and advertisements about ways to earn from home or ways to earn money online. My question is: how come no one is discussing how to own their own business? I am sure this is way more profitable than earning pennies per day online. I am guilty of this myself--putting my time and energy into working for peanuts. What is your perspective?

I think for most people the concept of owning their own business is a daunting one. It involves more capital, more time and more dedication. Working for peanuts isn't cost effective, but it has significantly less risk. That appeals to people who are looking merely to augment their income. However, if people are really looking to break free from the chains of the traditional 9 to 5, owning their own business is really the only way to do it. Owning your own business also has a much steeper learning curve. There are a lot of issues one normally doesn't think of involved with owning a business. There's taxes, income, profit, expenses, contracts, leases, etc. People can't just jump in. You have to have a business plan, and get do a lot of leg work up front. In the end all that work will pay off a lot bigger (hopefully), but it takes time in the first place. There's also the chance that your business won't work. And then, you're out the time and effort plus any money you've contributed. It can be scary. However, despite all that, being your own boss is like nothing else in the world. It's worth the effort, if you have the time. The risk is worth the reward if you can afford it. Not having to answer to anyone and being in charge of where you're going next is a feeling that cannot be matched by any traditional employee/employer relationship. As to why there aren't more sites and forums about it, all I can say is that demand has a tendency to dictate demand. Perhaps that should be your business? :)

Correction: that last sentence should read, ...all I can say is that demand has a tendency to dictate supply. Sorry. Should've previewed.

LOL. This is a great response. It's funny that you mention what should be my business. I am ALWAYS looking for ways to create my own business. Since I don't have lots of capital, though, it would probably be something online only. :) If more people would collaborate on ways to create business with less capital, the world would be a better place!

Yes, you are exactly correct. I totally agree with you. It does makes so much sense to do business, if one wishes to make money. The richest people in the world always find ways to increase rate of income whilst decreasing amount of effort and time and he or she has to allocate to generate that income. That's what a business provides for you. You are building a system once, that pays you over and over again. If you have a lot of money to start-up a business, then that's what you should do. It's the smartest thing to do, to start a business. But if you don't, then do small businesses. There are many businesses that one can do with little or even no start-up costs at all. The profits that you can generate from there, you must keep, and reinvest to build bigger businesses. That's exactly how billionaires become who they are. For example, Warren Buffett sold bottles of Coke on the streets when he was a kid. You can just become big in one day. You have to start small, and make it big from there.

I agree, Syfarisk. It's all about creating a system--even if you have to start small. This is how people build wealth. Thanks for your response!

A home business takes a lot of time and work to build. It also needs funds which those pennies I make online are going elsewhere. Many home businesses fail. There are so many scams out there that it is hard to tell what is real and what is not. Plus, many of the affiliate businesses require constant attention to keep going and are over saturated. Now for the real reason, I don't yet have a viable idea that can be turned into a home business. I don't have an idea exciting enough to devote the majority of my time and energy. I don't have the patience to wait a year before I see any kind of profit. So those are my excuses. Oh yeah, I don't have those funds either.

I think most people do not discriminate between the two terms. As long as they are working from home, they do not care what it is as called because they think it is on their terms. However, those looking to create an online business are the only ones that will find some great success... although the others may earn a great living from their online work.

well that is why people are on sites like this etc. Not everyone has the money to just go and start up a business, it is an expensive thing to do and if you have the money im sure itll be good for you, but without the money its not very likely.
