actually between 3 and 6 months is when you can start the cereal, but from my experience cereal doesn't make a difference it is just a myth some people still go by. There is nothing you can really do. eventually your baby will learn between day and night. I think mine was around that age when he started to know the difference. So hopfully it won't be long.:) I say give it another week or two. Now for me it is just getting him to sleep through the night! He still gets up around 3 and 6 am. urgg! He is 10 months old. My others slept through the night when they were much younger than 10 months. Is this your first?

Was she like this when she was in the belly. There are hyper babies and maybe she will adjust remember that it is just four weeks. Why don't you try to take naps whenever time she is napping so that when she is awake in the nights it will not affect you.

I used to have the same problem with my daughter also when she was an infant. I tried just about evrything to try to get her to sleep during the night instead of alot suring the day. A radio with soft music helps.

i would be careful about using a raido, if she gets used to this, she will NEED one every time she sleeps. you'll have problems getting her to sleep when she doesn't have this!

You may have already started giving your baby cereal, since this discussion is a month old. But just in case you haven't, or someone else is reading this discussion for an opinion on this, let me tell you it is in your best interest and the baby's to give her the cereal in her bottle. This does help the child sleep through the night, and even though doctors say its too early, I haven't seen a case yet where the child had problems because of the cereal. You don't have to put much in the milk, just enough to make it a little thicker than what it normally would be. You poke the hole in the nipple of the bottle a little larger, but not too big because you don't want to drown the baby lol. As your mom said, the baby will be full for quite some time, and will be apt to sleep. Also, don't feel bad when you are keeping her up during the day in order for her to be sleepy at night. She doesn't feel bad for keeping you up at night lol! But you aren't doing anything wrong. If she is sleepier when night comes, she will sleep, and you will be able to too.

starting cereal at such a young age could cause digestive problems. that is really how they used to do it (even some older peds tell moms to add cereal, and some moms and grandmas still swear by it, but current research has shown that it is niether effective for getting a baby to sleep and can be harmful health wise. what I would try is try waking her up more druing the day and getting a bit of a routins. she will be coming up soon on another growth spurt, so she may jsut settle in on her own. babies this young may have a fussy time in the evenigns too, so a warm bath and a massage a good feeding and a nice burp and a story and start getting a good bed time routine. also when she wakes at night, fed, burp change, no talking or lights if you can help it. it will help her learn this is time for sleep, and in the day have the blinds open and interact with her. this too shall pass.... promise. also go to askdrsears.com and read up on night time parenting he has some awesome tips there too. Be well,

this child is 4 weeks old, no need to worry about digesting RICE cereal!! if anything, i would worry about allergies, but rice is the least likely to cause this problem!! AND it IS effective!! trust me!

you don't need to keep her up ALL day. just for the couple hours before you are ready for bed. then make sure she is fed til her little belly is full (try putting a small amount of RICE cereal in her bottle and slitting the hole just a tad on a nipple and feed her that just before bed, this will help her sleep longer cause her belly will stay full longer) and of course, change her and then put her down she should sleep longer for you!! yu may try wrapping her (swaddle her) up before laying her down, as well, alot off babies will not sleep well if they are not swaddled. good luck!!

I know that you are going to think this is crazy, but my son was the same way. An elderly woman told me to hold him straight up in front of me and turn him upside down, in a clockwise position, and back up again, slowly but should only take about 10 seconds. I did this in front of the lady and it did seem to help. Old wives tale, won't hurt to try. Good luck to you.

I think she's too young for cereal too. I waited until mine were about 4 months old before I started that. But we all have that problem. She will eventually adjust to a normal calendar but it will take take time. It will most likely happen naturally.

4 month olds will not just sleep during the day, just let her sleep. they will be liek thsi until about 6-1st year. There is no true way of makign them to not sleep only a portion of the day. They sleep like that because their anatomy is not fully grown yet. Their "time clock" is still being transformed.

Your mom is right. A little cereal won't hurt her. All my babies were eating cereal by two weeks old. Just be sure and only use rice cereal. It's easiest to digest. I learned this with my first child. She was up all day and night. Even after I fed her, five minutes later she would be hungry again. I finally went to see my neighbor who had four kids of her own. She asked me if I had started her on solid foods. She gave her about a teaspoon of applesauce and she went right to sleep and slept for six hours. I didn't have to ask when I had my second child and as a result I had no problem with his sleep patterns.
