I just accidentally called 311 which is the none emergency # for the police I was trying to call my mom in germany and you start with 011. I explained it to the lady, hopefully the police won't knock on my door. When you dial the wrong number and someone you don't know answers the phone, do you hang up really quick or do you say "Sorry wrong number" It's probably wrong but i usually just hang up

i just usually ask for the person i am calling since most the times when i call my friends, i don't really recognize the other person picking up the phone. and if it is a wrong number then i apologize and hang up. but i have had some annoying callers calling me though, who keep calling at my number two to three times, and even after telling them each time that they are dialing the wrong number, they remain totally clueless. heres how some conversation go: me:"hello" other side:"hello! can i talk to danial" me:"no, you have dialled the wrong number, there's no danial here" other:"then where is he?" *sigh* and then i hang up the phone

Lol, those calls usually come from collection agencies. They call all people with the same last name as the delinquent debtor they want to collect money from. They don't give up that easily either. And if you happen to know a person who has the same name as the debtor and tell them you do, they'll haunt you forever until you give out the address and phone numbers.

I get a lot of collection agency calls and 8 out of 10 it's not for me. It's someone that used to have this number.

there aren't such companies in my country. i know what you are talking about though. most of such calls come from pay phones from people who aren't really that knowledgeable about operating a phone. i live in a developing country =)

wrong number - calling wrong number
well i should say that i havent had too many wrong number instances butthe some that i have had were actually very funny or either embarassing... there was one time when a person called me and for a very long time we were just arguing with each other on who will let out their name first...my argument was that as he had called me he should tell me his name first and his argument was that he wouldnt want to tell his name to a person who he dint want to talk.... this went on for quite some time and then i started realising that he was getting agitated with it so i thought i could have some fun too .... so i kept pestering him even more till the time he got totally fed up and hung up and poor guy he never called back again.... there was also a time when i called a friend and somehow it got connected to someone else and the woman on the other end just kept asking me where i have called from and i did not want to tell her as i already knew that it was a wrong number and i tried telling her that im sorry i got her number by mistake butu she wouldnt listen so i had to finally hang up.... i guess i got back what i did to that poor guy who had called me up before:P

hello missybear, I think I accidentally or mistakenly dialed wrong numbers twice. And because I was expecting a familiar voice at the other line, which for sure did not happen because it was a wrong number - to my surprised I hang up really quick. Upon doing it, I told myself I should have told him sorry and it was a wrong number. The second time I dialed wrong number again, I did the same mistake. It was really so bad of me. Now, I'm making it sure to dial the right number.

Hello, missybear. I am sure that the police will not knock on your door. After all, it was just a misunderstanding. I'm sure they must be busy with something, they will not go there just to say: "Are you crazy? You dialed the wrong number!". Accidents happen, and mistakes like that are made. No hard feeling from the cops, I'm sure. When I call the wrong number, I'll usually say sorry in an embarrassed voice and then hang up. I dislike making wrong dials. It really sucks, because I never know what to say after the "There is no one with this name in here". "Hello! May I speak to 'name'?" - I am all happy when saying this "To whom?" "To 'name'." "I'm sorry, there is nobody called 'name' in here." "Err... Err... I'm sorry then." And I quickly hang up. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

well, it is unvoidable to dial wrong number specially in my workplace, i am a purchaser and i do a lot of quation of prices the whole day through telephone. And sometimes i mix up the phone numbers of the suppliers . Whenever i did it i just say i sorry i got the wrong number, but if i know the person of the next line i just talk to her/him and ask something about thier product and pretend that i am interest to buy, to cover up the mistake.

Hi missy! Well, I know that it's wrong, but I do usually hang up too! The only thing wrong with that is today with Caller ID the person will usually call you right back and ask you why you hung up! So, that makes it even worse! When I get a wrong number and it happens over and over I get really pissed off and sometimes will call them back and tell them to stop calling and check the number they are trying to call because they are calling me instead of whoever they want to call. So it isn't so easy to just hang up on wrong numbers these days! Did the police come knocking on your door? I hope not!

Aww~ That happens all the time to lots of people . But, it's a bummer to dial the police wrongly when you were just trying to call your mum. You must have been shocked. Well anyway just wanted to say don't worry. I am sure that the police will understand. Afterall, it's a mistake that a lot of people make. What more, with the number 311 and 011 so closely related, they would understand, and you won't have to worry about the police knocking on your door As for me, well usually when I dial the wrong number, it depends on who answer the phone. Hehe If it's someone who sounds friendly, I would try and make a new friend. Afterall, there are no strangers in this world, only people whom we have not met yet. =D But, if the person who answers the phone sounds arupt or unfriendly, I will just ask for the person that I was looking for (just in case someone else had answered the phone call), and mutter a sorry when they retort that it's a wrong number. Hehe..

I try not to hang up, but most of the time I do because I'm just too confused to say anything else. xD Sometimes I'll go, "Sorry... uh... wrong number...", and then hang up, but again, it would sound very confused and hurried. xD Hope the police doesn't pay you a visit. =P xD

You don't have to worry about a thing. That happens once in a while. Well the polite way is saying that you just dialled the wrong number. But if you just hang up then the person on the other line would assume that you have dialled the wrong number. And I don't see anything wrong with that either. But some people do it for the sake of fun. And its really annoying.

I usually say "Sorry, wrong number" just so the person on the other end doesn't think they're being prank called. I'm sure your incident with dialing 311 will be okay as long as you explained yourself. They may have even had a similar situation previous with country code dialing.

hi hi , this happened to me once i had the police on speed dial and hit that by mistake . I was in shock really , and told them i had the wrong number , but they called back again and asked if i was sure everything is ok so anyway like 5 mins later an officer shows up and i let him in and my fiance is there , and hes like miss did you and him have a fight . I had to explain myself again and show him the phone . I felt so foolish , but i suppose since the station is like 3 mins away he wanted to safe . he was just doing his job !

Dont ask! I get so many wrong calls, blank calls, missed calls and what not! I'm probably thinking of changing my number but then that would mean informing more than 400 people in my phonebook! So sometimes when I'm busy I just hang up. When I'm in a fun mood, I keep on talking with the person on the other end. Once I got a call from a washing machine repair store. The guy was confirming if he should proceed with the repair becuase the spare parts costs exceeded the normal cost of new washing machine. Obviously it was a wrong number and it wasnt my washing machine. So I had some fun, I told him I dont care how much it costs, I want the same washing machine repaired! I dont care if its costing me equal the amount of a brand new, I want the same old one! God only knows what happened next! LOL!
