We are buying our home as well. We've been buying it for years, lol. We are fortunate enough that we have a relativly low mortgage payment and didn't get sucked into the sub-prime mortgage scam. I sympathise with those that got taken though. It would be horrible to lose your home. This credit crunch is effecting so many people. Even those of us that have tried to be frugal all along. I hope you contine to be okay with your house payments.

Congratulations....on becoming a home owner! There are many who would say you are wise at this juncture in the road! To use the old expression, right now, you'll get a lot more bang for your buck, if the market is the same in the UK as elsewhere! I will have owned (mortgaged) my home for the last 30 years come this June, so I do have a lot of equity in it! Hopefully, that will keep the wolves away from the door! Unless I am struck with a long term illness, I always keep about a years payment ahead in the bank! It let's me sleep better at night! Once again, congratulations, will you be in your new home for Christmas? Cheers!

I've owned 4 houses to date. I own one by myself right now and one with my husband. Mine is fully paid off and, thankfully, my husband makes enough money to handle all the bills, even with the present credit crunch. Luckily, we don't have any credit card debt, at least not much. My husband opened one credit card for an electronics store but not much is owed on it.
Buying a house is one of the best things you can do with your money, as long as you can keep up the payments! Because they only go up in value (at least in most cases), you will have money accruing that you can use to buy a better house down the road if you want.
That's what I did. My first house was little more than a shell. It needed new walls, new ceilings, I had to have a completely new kitchen put in, etc. It needed a lot of work! But, once that was done, I sold it for a nice profit and was able to put that money into a better house in a better neighborhood.
The house we live in now is the one I hope to grow old in. I love this place! It's the country home I've always wanted, with enough room to grow all the fruits, vegetables, nuts and berries I've wanted to grow all my life. It's even sitting on a private lake where I can go fishing any time I want. This is my dreamhome... it only took me 55 years to get it! LOL

Well thankfully we own our house, and we don't have to pay rent every month, because things would sure be tight around here if we had to. We're doing good at the moment too, I know things are hard for some people right now. My sister is buying her house, and I was wondering how they were doing, but she said they were doing good, and their credit was still good, so they're able to keep the house.

Hi there Anne18
I don't own my house and probably never will own a house! I am housed by the local authority which is sometimes an advantage as if my pipes freeze then someone will come out and sort them out, same with elctrical problems and plumbing! As my kids are young I am a priority so they usually come out the same day that I contact them especially if it is the heating that is a problem!

I own my house, and i bought it with my saved money, so i not needed to access any kind of credit.
Anyway i would like to say something about the sub prime cheat. If you like to play poker, and you lose the game, you will say that other players scammed you, or you just will understand is your fault if you decided to play a high risk money game?
Sub prime were the same, anyone that was able to read what they were signing, could well understand the risk. They signed the contracts anyway. They accepted the risk. My opinion is you should make some calculation BEFORE start something like a sub prime. But seems lot of people still believe in santa klaus. So maybe now they learned something about money: always double check anything before invest, no matter if you are risking to lose 1 cent only, or 1 billion. The attention you should pay is the same.
I can't say i'm sad for these people that are losing their house, they chose the wrong way in the beginning, not my fault

I dun own my current house.. Instead, my parents are the real owners because they paid for it, and i'm living with them.. hehe ^_^ Actually now is the right time for buying houses, as the property market has somehow stablised, and prices are not as high as compared to the previous few months when it's booming..
However, i will intend to wait for the property market bubble to burst, before i consider buying a house.. SO that i will be able to profit from it when i do a resale in the future.. haha

I own my house for years now so the credit cruch doesn't makes any ill on this. But I'm sorry about all these people that are losing their homes now. I hope they can get a roof soon.
Have a nice day.

Well; we are indeed planning to buy our own House .
We would however have to avail of a Housing Loan to buy that house .
