I'm always looking for free events, as I like to save money. Here is one that might be in your area.
On Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, Young Chef's Academy is sponsoring a free event at their locations all across the U.S.A. This free event includes hands-on culinary activities for children and their parents, food tastings, giveaways, and more. Ages 3 and up are welcome to attend. Find out more details http://www.youngchefsacademy.com/theparentinggroup.php.

I used to take my kids to events like this, although we never had this particular one when they were growing up. My youngest who is now 20 wanted to be a chef a couple of years ago but now he's going for his MBA.
I always go for the freebies! Unfortunately, they're few and far between at this time. I'm tempted to take a tour of a few old houses here but it'll cost $10 and I'm still deciding whether I want to spent that money or not.
