Relaxing at vacation .......with difference

We love the idea of taking a good vacation. Time off from the cares of the world, work responsibilities and the mundane day to day stresses. But, what if you and your spouse/partner have different ideas of what constitute a holiday? My idea of a holiday is to browse through the shops, pick up some good buys and souvenirs. His idea is to sit quietly by the beach and down the cocktails and beers! Or, what about those who love to visit all the tourist attractions and the partner who would rather just snap a couple of shots and is satisfied? Mmmm... a little bit difficult to please both parties but it sounds as though a compromise has to be worked out. The holiday would turn to be a complete bore and ruined if there is no middle path taken. What would your ideal holiday be like?

I will regard a vacation as any break from the usual routine of life and work, to relax and do something different. That means that during such a break, one leaves the home and office behind, and just focus on enjoying oneself. Under this broad definition, one can indulge in any activity as part of his/her vacation. For my wife and myself, we travel on vacations twice a year on average. Our ideal vacations are usually made up of a variety of activities ~ sightseeing at favorite tourist spots, going to the beaches, shopping in big malls and street bazaars, trying out various kinds of food, souvenir hunting, going for shows at night, etc. We also like to hire a car and go roaming around everywhere, even to the unbeaten paths, driving into national parks to see scenic lookout points, rugged mountains, lakes and waterfalls, tracking into caves and dormant volcanoes, and visiting quaint villages. Our most memorable holidays have been those where we plan our own routes and drive around everywhere.

Thank you, Zandi, for your vote. It's been five months and I've almost forgotten about what I posted. But reading it again brings back lots of memories of the kinds of holidays I've been on. I'll probably go on a similar kind of holiday again end of this year to Australia.

I support your stand. Women should go on holidays without the preying eyes of men. let them become babysitters while we relax on vacation.

I am so lucky in this area my and my husband (normaly dont agree in many things) like to do the same things on holiday. Bit of shoping and geting to know the place, relax and be very lazy. Make sure that my son has lots of fun and we act like small kids. I hate fishing but I put up with it as he puts up with some of my things. He wanted to try camping last year and I wasnt so pleased but decided to give it a go and I loved it and we are doing it this year as well (mind you I will be 25 weeks pregnant) but its not your tipical camping its in a camp with toilets and showers and all that jazz plus we have nice beds.

That sounds interesting and make sure you be careful as you're pregnant. I like camping too but we camp in a typical camp that is not as sophisticated as yours.

For a relaxing vacation, I would prefer some 3 days by the beach. The sea enchants me. It brings a soothing feeling enough to make me feel rested. I love to walk along the coast while enjoying the feel of the morning sun and the cool morning breeze. I love to sip fresh fruit juice by the sea while watching the waves rushing through the big rocks. Of the I love to swim throught the cool clean water as well. The Beach is the perfect place for a truly relaxing vacation.

You have a great idea. Beach is a good place for relaxation but I only like to be by the beach during evenings to see the sunset. We have beautiful beaches in my place.

Hi zandi, My idea of the perfect vacation would be a little of both. My favorite things are relaxing by the pool, or on the beach, getting a tan swimming, having nice meals, going shopping. But, I'm not interested in seeing a whole lot of tourist things. Maybe just a few. I would much rather relax and enjoy the peace and quiet! I'm definitely more of a sun and water type person! Oh, but I do love those little shops so I definitely would have to do some shopping!

I really don't fancy going out to the beach. I prefer the shopping and seeing the night life of a place that I visit.

well, my idea of a perfect holiday would be something that we both love doing, which is going to an out of town trip.. we are most likely the same when it comes to a lot of things that's why we really jive! we do whatever makes us happy.. you know, life is too short so we should make the most out of it..enjoy!

A few years ago while my invalid husband was still alive and my life was full of the stress of his day to day care it was suggested that I needed a vacation. I agreed but said that it would not be possible. When asked what I would consider for my ideal vacation I said that it would be for everyone else to go away and leave me in solitude for awhile.

Ooops that is unique. But after undergoing stressful life we sometimes want to be on ourselves free from any outside interference. Maybe it is a good way of distressing ourselves.

My ideal holiday is at a beach. Fortunately, DH and I both love the beach and we like to take long walks along the shore. We both also like to hike so any place where we can combine the two is great. Of course, we do have different interests and different places that we like to go. We alternate places each year. One year DH gets to pick the destination ane the next year, I get to pick it. When we're on vacation, DH chooses what we do one day and I choose what we're doing the next. It works for us. We both get to do what we want to do. The one other rule that we have is that when it's not your day to choose, there's no complaining about what the other one picked!

That is a good compromise between you and your DH. vacation will be more enjoyable with both parties sharing the same passion.

There definitely has to be compromise in these type of situations. There are two different ways this can be approached. 1) You agree to his idea for this vacation to please him and make him happy; the next time you would choose what to do. 2) You go somewhere nice and relax on the beach a little and also shop a little. This way you get the best of both worlds. Compromise key, good luck!

Good idea, I think that makes the world go round if both compromise on the itinerary.

Now that I am getting older, I just enjoy relaxing, not worrying about things. We had a pretty nice vacation going on at the beginning of September at the beach. Except we didn't pack sunscreen. And got awful sunburns. And moaned the entire 9 hour drive home, LOL. So, I would say my ideal vacation would be one with FULL preparations, and relaxation. :)

vacation is meant for relaxation, away from our daily routine. But I wouldn't like to go under the hot sun or the beach. It will burn my already tanned skin. I prefer to go under shade.
