I have a male Siamese cat that has been eating like crazy lately. I'm not sure if it's because he's bulking up for the winter or if it's because he's part pig. He's one year and 4 months old and each month he keeps on getting bigger and bigger and I wonder if his growth will stop soon. The ironic part is that he only eats dry and moist cat food. He won't even eat table scraps or chicken skin or meat, he sticks his persnickety nose up at it infact. If his bowl isn't filled up to the top all the time with dry cat food he turns into a monster! He will stand up on his hind legs and slap and bite peoples hands or feet as they walk by in the kitchen until his bowl is full! He will also scoot his bowl to my feet if I'm in the kitchen doing something because he wants his bowl filled to the top with cat food, half way full isn't good enough for him! He's the biggest cat I have ever own but he still acts like he's a kitten. I'm worried that he's eating too much. Does any fellow mylotters also have a pet that eats and eats and eats? He doesn't have worms, he was checked out not too long ago by his vet and got a clean bill of health.

my cat xavier is half siamese and he is the same way!! (i have pics of him he is the white cat so you can see he is pretty big) he eats a ton.. he will REMIND YOU by howling if his bowl gets empty, isnt filled on time etc.. if you dare not go straight to feeding him when you wake up he will swarm you like a vulture like if you dont feed him he will eat you alive!! i figured it was because when we got him he was starved badly and he only eats dry food and not allowed anything else because he has a stomach problem that he makes stones if he eats anything other than his prescription food.. now that said he is the sweetest cat you will ever know.. just DONT MESS WITH HIS FOOD AND KEEP IT COMING! lol.. since im assuming your cat wasnt a stray to where he went hungry then i dont know if its normal for yours.. i dont think siamese are suppose to get heavy but im not sure.. i figure if they arent mine is only half so he must have some fat cat genes on his other half lol... you might wanna take him to the vet just to get looked over.. some cats just get huge and muscular etc..

Hehehehe, if I don't drag my lazy butt out of bed when my one cat figures it's time for breakfast he comes and starts leaping back and forth over my head. If I ignore him and pull the blankets up over my head he tries to dig them off me with his paws, meowing like the little tyrant kitty he is. If I still ignore him, he picks a fight with his brother who is always sleeping contentedly on top of me like a good little kitty. I'm afraid I have encouraged him to continue this behavior too, because there is nothing like a cat fight RIGHT ON TOP OF ME to get me out of bed!

hi, here in Oz you can get a product from good pet shops called 'Science Diet'. It's a specially formulated dry pet food for cats. A1 nutritionally, it comes in several formulations from kittens to older animals, there is even one for a cat who might need to reduce. Check your local pet store, there might be a similar product made in the USA.

We can also buy Science Diet here, I hear it's great cat food and VERY expensive. But only selected stores sell it here. I would have to visit Pet Smart to buy it. But I do plan on changing his diet to a more healthier brand of cat food. He's eating Walmart bargain brand now cause my husband is frugal/cheap when he buys cat food..

I would talk about this problem with my vet first. I would read the dog food brand what is written on the bag and feed accordingly. Obese cats can lead to future health problems. So better watch his weight now. © ronaldinu 2008

I think I'm going to change his cat food to a more healthier brand then the cheap fatty brand I've been feeding him. If he keeps on gaining weight I'll take him to the vet. He maybe bulking up for the winter, he is also still growing, he's a little over a year old still. I don't think he's obese, just a bit chubby. Last night I noticed that his fur is extra thick now and it makes him look fatter then usual. His winter coat is a lot thicker then the coat he had during the summer, maybe thats another reason why I thought he was getting too fat because his fur coat is super thick now and he looks bigger because of his winter coat.

lol =D Looks like u have a huge eating eat.. hehe ^_^ Maybe it's has become his habit that he has to eat that much, if u have been feeding him that way.. ANd if u try to stop now, he's gonna be irritated, as his portion is different now.. haha ^_^ I guess u have no choice but to let him keep eating, and if he do get his exercise, that should not be a problem.. hehe

LOL.. Yeah you're right, if I try to stop him now from the eating patterns he's use to he will probably be irritated and he's mean when he doesn't get what he wants. He'll bite and swipe his paws at me and knock things over out of spite when he's mad..

Hahahaha, that is very funny... a Siamese Pig Cat! Your cats antics sound hilarious. Every time I go in the kitchen whichever of my kitties is in the house expects a treat, and it's the same thing with them... if their bowl has a few nuggets in it they do not want that - they want FRESH! One of my cats was lost in the wilderness for 3 months. When she came home she was soooo unbelievably skinny! All she ever wanted to do was eat, I was afraid she was going to blow up! I did not have the heart to refuse her though and fortunately she has not blown up. In fact, even though she continues to eat like a little pig she has gone back down to her normal size. Every time I make myself a cup of tea she has frantically GOT to have some cream and will follow me around meowing piteously. They all get a lot of exercise outdoors though... to get inside the house they have to climb up one ladder and down another, hehehe.

LOL, yeah he is a pig, but a picky one. It's like he only likes certain types of cat food then once he finds a brand he likes he will eat it like crazy. My cat was just being a jerk to me a few minutes ago. I was in the kitchen making a hot tea and his precious glass cat food bowl needed to be filled , probably 10 nuggets left to eat, and I told him to wait until I was finished making my tea and I would feed him, then a few minutes later I heard something hit the floor behind me and when I turned around I saw him look suspicious and duct his head down like he knew he was in trouble and then I noticed that he knocked over my blue water cup tumbler I just got finished drinking my water out of, so he must of stood up on his hind legs and smacked my cup off the counter because he was mad at me for not feeding him when he wanted me to!.. He does little crappy things like that when he gets mad and doesn't get his way. My brother thinks he's a little brat sometimes..haha I also had a cat years ago that ran away for 3 months like your cat did and when she came back she was nothing but a stack of bones, she plumped up really quick though after being home for a month... It's cute the way your cat acts when you make tea and freaks out for the cream.I notice that cat's sometimes think that they want whatever your eating or drinking even though you know they won't like it. That's how my pig cat Loki is, he hates everything human food wise but yet he begs for what I'm eating..LOL.. My other Cat Gremlin will eat anything, he's the total opposite of Loki.

I would still call the vet, especially if it's out of the ordinary for him. My mom works for a vet and has for years. She's always told me to call her or the vet if my cats eating haits ever drastically changes like that. Whether it's eating less or more. I hope your kitty is ok.

Thanks for your concern camomom I think he's ok ( I hope). He was at the vet 3 months ago for a check-up and they said he was fine. But I'll keep my eye on him and if starts to have low energy or seems to be acting different if he does start to act sick or I'll take him to the vet asap. He maybe bulking up for the winter and he's still growing. He's a year and 4 months old. He's fixed also and is up to date on his shots and he's also a indoor cat ,he's playful and seems healthy and happy. He just likes to eat a lot.

This sounds like a cat with character. I love him! How much does he weigh? My cat weighs 20 pounds which I think is huge but the vet says he is healthy. He eats everything he can get into his mouth. Usually, he is ver well mannered but I've noticed lately that he scatches the leg of anybody eating and not giving him a taste. A couple times he even reached up a swiped a morsel from my plate. Now this has to stop!

he could still be growing..doing his last bit of filling out as it were lol! an ex of mine had a siamese that was just huge! i have no idea how big, but i bet he was pushing 18 lbs! but he wasnt "fat" he was just a big tom cat! my mothers cat is a dainty thing..but when winter starts heading her way she does start eating more and gets a bit more padding, but she slims back down after winter. if you are really worried have the vet give him a checkup and ask in particular about his weight..or give it some time if by spring of next year he hasnt started eating less and slimming back a bit..then get him on a science diet for weight loss kitty food. hehe Loki! sure sounds like Loki is a very fitting name for your bugger!

Oh Gawd! This is why I rarely start topics, I'm soooo bad at getting around and replying to everyone's replies and I think it's lame just to go around and say " thanks" .. The holidays have been keeping me buzy..Yes, Loki is just growing, he's growing in height also since I last posted this discussion. I have changed his cat food and he seems to not be as fat as he was. Yeah his name suits him perfectly..LOL.. Yeah winter time makes kittys look bigger then they are because of the bulking up for winter part and cat's hair seems to thicken' up some when the weather gets colder.

I have a furry eating machine too. He always got a clean bill of health from the vet also but was told he is overweight. We now have him on a different kind of food intake and he has lost some weight and looks and feels alot better too. He still gets his fair share of treats though.

wow your cat does look big from the picture. i guess it's no harm given that he doesn't eat table scraps. feel him around his middle for his rib cage. if you can feel his bones, he is not obese. some cats just grow to be bigger than others. i've got two domestic cats at home, one with semi-longhair and the other short hair. my longhair boy is twice the size of my short hair girl. i'm always feeling him around the middle to ensure that he is not obese. guess loki just don't like feeling hungry.

Thanks for the advice about feeling for his rib cage bones to see if he's obese. I can actually feel them a bit, but not too much. But I think it's because his hair is really thick. So I'm guessing he's not too fat, it maybe more of a winter fur getting thick . He is chubby but after feeling for his bones I wouldn't say he's obese. After reading all the comments from everybody here and taking a good look at my cat I think he's just bulking up for the winter. He's still young, a year and 4 months old so he's probably still growing a bit. By the way, The pictures of your cat's in you're profile photos are beautiful.. They are so pretty. They kitty picture you're using as your MyLot avatar looks like a cat I use to have years ago, such a cutie!

Hi cassandralynn, I think you will have to put your cat on a diet as it is bad for your cats heart if its carry on like that, why don't you just put little food in bowls all ove the house so he can nibble at it, I haver a female cat who wants to eat all day but since I have been doing that she is quite satisfied now and I also have a male cat but she don't eat as much but he does love bits from us when we are eating and she never used but latley she comes round for a bit of chicken or chops, she is very choosey though. HI Cassandralynn; What a pretty kitty, you might have to get some sort of special diet cat food for him, or do talk to the vet again and see what they say, is he neutered too?? That's funny what you said about him Nipping people to get your attention that he wants his food and scooting the bowl across the floor...LOLOLOL!! My Cat Minx is like that too, she's been sick though lately and has lost several pounds I have her here with me know instead of out at the farm, you'll see some posts I've done about her being sick and the stunts she's pulled since coming here but I swear when she is well, she could easily eat a whole hog herself, she can just finish up eating and turn around and expect more; I get to the point where I just have to sorta BARK AT HER...to go lay down but right now while she is recuperating I am glad she is buggin me for food even though I am limiting her on what I give her, the vet doc said small feedings several times a day so that is what I'm doing, no extra food she would love to eat any scraps of my food too but I'm not doing that until she gets better, poor kitty; Maybe he is storing up his food for the winter months ahead...LOL!

Hi Jan! Thanks for the nice sweet compliment about my fat starving cat..LOL.. He is a very pretty cat and very sweet nature sometimes but when it comes to cat food he's really psycho about having his bowl filled to the top. I really can't afford any special diet cat food at the moment. But I will look around at the store and see if I can find any that is affordable. He will probably eat a whole bag of special diet cat food really quick also ( does Jenny Craig make diet cat food?). Sorry about Minx being sick. I hope she's doing better. It's heartbreaking to have a sick cat. I'll check some of you're post later to see about Minx's health updates. I have a friend that has cat's that over eat and she found out recently that BOTHher cat's are diabetics!.. I guess animals are very similar to humans when it comes to health. Now my friend has to buy special cat food for her cat's because of their weight problems and being diabetic. I don't know about you're Minxy cat, but my cat is spiteful if he doesn't get his way about being fed lots of food all the time. I'm going to have to try and the several times a day small feedings like what you're vet suggested to your cat. I don't want my cat to be diabetic..As you can tell from my cats pic, he doesnt really need to bulk up too much for the winter..LOL Thanks for replying

HI Cassandra: Well when I brought MInx home my bill said her weight was 7lbs something, I'm too lazy to get up and go look at the bill but she's not weighed 7 lbs for YEARS...but getting pneumonia she really dropped her weight fast, she's getting her appetite back believe me she's doing much much better her and her daughter Screamer are playing some each morning and the rest of the day mostly she rests, eats, etc...but its good to see her health improving and for her to play a bit each morning now, I just pray they don't knock down my Christmas tree, I'd not be very happy then; well keep us all posted on what you find our for your kitty there..LOL!! maybe he's not diabetic lets hope not but yeah its amazing how more and more our pets do suffer a lot of the same sh!t we humans have. Kinda crazy!!! Give Loki some lovings from his Aunt Jan Jan

Perhaps he's bulking up for the winter. I remember when I ate really a lot during winter time, I guess it's because our bodies are getting really cold, and we need more energy to be burned. Perhaps the same concept goes to the our pets too.

awe, cute kitty! my cats eat alot too. They eat hard food and canned food but they also enjoy table scraps. As long as your kitty is healthy just dont let him get too overweight, I had to put my dog on diet dog food because he was too fat. have a great day.

my male cat is the same way. he is 8. he only eats his fancy feast can food and holistic dry food, but i feed him only twice a day. can food in the morning and dry food at night as a snack. if he finishes his dry food, he will act up like urs for more. but i tell him it is getting too late. go to sleep or play until morning. i dont want my cat to be unhealthy or too fat. maybe it is also a man thing. male cats like to eat a lot in the winter like men. my male cat is also fixed. fixed cats gain more weight.

Hi Cassandra - I think that I'd at least share this with your vet, just to be on the safe side. If your cat is big (not fat) - maybe it's not a serious problem. I have heard that is a better idea for cats to eat some wet food (canned). Does he drink plenty of water? That is important for the health of his kidneys. Pretty soon, he'll be barking out orders to you, and you'll be saying: "Yes, sir!" LOL
