About three months ago my daughter and I had to move out of a condo we were renting.Because we had to put so much money out for the high price of food and for deliveries because of our lack of not having a car as well as paying for repairs that we were not respondsible for we were unable to save money for a deposit. We ended up putting our belonging's in storage except for our furniture, which we had to give a way.For the past few months we have stayed in a hotel on their less expensive monthly plan, except for a few weeks of renting a basement in a home that had cats which my daughter became allergic to.With the price of the hotel, storage and buying food I barely have any money for Christmas prsents.I did some babysitting a got a little money to buy my daughter a few things, but we are still short on food. Now the hotel tells us that we cannot stay on that plan for the month of January because the rooms are already booked for the innaguration.(we live the the Washington,DC area)Then I just saw an add on the internet that rooms are available there for $249 for the 18th thru the 21st! The regular rate is $79 a night. But,on this monthly rate we are paying $42 a night.I called (from my mom's phone) and asked if the rooms were available and was told yes! I know of 3 other families that are staying there and we all are being put out in January, with no place to go.I have,as well as other's,caught them in lies and was told by an employee that he is going to find a job elsewhere because he is tired of being told by his boss to lie to the customers and potential customers.Do you all think this is fair so they can make a buck?

I would be pissed too! I think I would call someone from local government to see if this is okay. I mean if you are using this as your home then you should be able to stay. I would also call the local news channel to have them do a story. This is absolutely ridiculous. I would also call there corporate office, whereever that is. I would call the BBB. I would call and tell anyone that will listen that you will be on the streets unless you can pay some crazy fee due to the fact that an event is intown. Uggggghhh!

Yes,right after I started this discussion I went into Extended Stay Hotels website and got their toll free number and am going to call them in the morning.People are going nuts and will pay a lot to go see this historical event.I would go but, they are expecting 5 million people! Ugh! Iam only 5 foot two inches.I'd never see anything! All the hotels as far as 80 miles away in the state of West Virginia are booked and people are paying redicoulous prices.

I am one of the one's that is trying really hard to get there, but I don't want a hotel room at the expense of someone losing there home for me to attend. For those that choose to leave their home that is one thing. Many people are traveling other places in order to rent out their place. But the fact that you are living in a extended stay hotel, where most people consider it home and they are DEMANDING that you leave or pay some ridiculous price is absolutely crazy!

I would take this to the local newspapers. Get the other families that are being put in the same bind to agree to talk to the reporters as well. I'm sure that if this gets enough publication it will get noticed. As you talk to the reporters throw things in like "I wonder if Obama would like to know that there are hotels that are trying to make a fast buck by putting people out on the streets when he is trying to help people stay in their homes?" or "Would Obabma want to know that his "change" means that hotel/motel chains thinks it means increasing the numbers of the homeless so others can stay for his inagruation?". Something to that effect. Also get in touch with the local councilman and let him/her know what is going on.

As hard as it is on you dfollin, the Hotel where you are currently living is also a business. Any business is entitled to make money and in fact they have an obligation to make a profit or they will soon go out of business. If that was to happen then a lot of people who currently work there would end up being unemployed.
If you have an agreement with the hotel, then they cannot evict you without giving you an appropriate notice. If however you do not have a specific agreement with the hotel then they are within their rights to tell you the cost of the room rental has increased for those specific days. The alternative is that you move out if you cannot pay the room fees that are being requested.
Harsh? Certainly it is but that is life in general.
Unfair to you? Not from the point of view of the owners and/or manager of the hotel it isn't.
As for that employee who is telling guests that he is going to get another job because he claims "he is tired of being told by his boss to lie to the customers and potential customers," he is hardly a loyal employee. That means the hotel will be better off without his services.
Yes life can sometimes be hard I know but as already suggested by an earlier respondent, you can cook up cheap economical meals. Also you should be able to obtain food stamps and they will help defray some of those costs. Finally it appears that you are not working but instead receiving government benefits of some kind. Living in a hotel gives you a big advantage over other people in some ways if you want to improve you situation. Have you approached the hotel to find out if they have any vacancies for staff, even on a casual basis?
This is not meant unkindly and it will not be easy for you but these are the facts as I see them. Good luck to you.

They employee is faithful. He has worked there for over three years. The company is not faithful to their customers or employees,by telling them to lie to them. The hotel is already not doing good business. Some major companies that had contracts with them for their employees to stay at this hotel during business trips have left there and is using the hotel next door. This hotel has three floors and they closed the third floor down to save money and just put what few guest's they have on the other floors. The other night when I was at the desk to ask for towells the phone rang and the clerk, that I had mentioned before, answered the phone and told the potential customer that they had no rooms available for that night. After he hung up and asked him why he had told her that because I knew that there was not that many people there. He told me that what rooms were empty were not clean.I asked him why not and he said because there was such a cut back on hours that the maids did not have enough time to clean them. When we checked in our room was not clean and there were a few people that checked in and went to their room and it was dirty and they immediatley checked out.If I owned a business I would not put making money before the customer, causing the customer hardship's.That is not right!

If you have an agreement with the hotel Im not sure if what they are doing to you is legal at all. I understand the want for the motel to make money I mean of course thats what the hotel is there for, but when you offer long term tenants in your motel then you cant just ask them to leave as long as you are paying your rent with them on time every week, or month depending on how you have it set up. I know that with the inauguration coming up things are getting a little crazy. I am in Baltimore so I'm probably a half hour north of DC and my friend runs a motel here and their rooms are actually booked for it as well. I understand people wanting to be a part of history, but at what expense? In the end they will have made extra money for a few days then they will have an empty room. You should call someone from your local housing department, or even from your local news station to bring some lite to this issue.

Because it is only month to month they don't have to give us notice. When we could afford it we used to go to see Orioles games at Memorial Stadium. That was fun.I have talked to other hotels and was told that they are booked as far south as Richmond. My uncle heard that some people are even staying in West Virginia.Housing has a waiting list for 6 years!

Yes, it is unfair since you have already been living there. How can they uproot you, when you already had a montly agreement for a room. Fourty two dollars a day is still a lot of money, you are paying over thirteen hundred a month. Yeah I heard on the news that there will be changes in DC for the inauguration. the bars are going to be allowed to remain open until five in the morning. Makes no sense why they would want a lot of drunk people roaming around.
See, this hotel knows that a lot of people are going to be there looking for rooms, and they want to move anyone out that they will not be making a lot of money on. Do you have a rental agreement with this hotel? The inauguration is not until January 20, so hopefully in the meantime you can figure something out.
I really think that if you can afford the $42 a day which equals to $1302.00, maybe you can find a small apartment which would be cheaper than that.
I wish you and your daughter well.

That really stinks for you. I'm sorry. I wish you were closer you could just stay here lol I take people in all the time that do not have any where to go and so far my husband doesn't care. I don't know how you could afford to pay that much money a night for a place to stay. I complained about our house payment that was 1200 but then we talked with our bank and got it down to 550.
I can understand wanting to make money but it's wrong for them to put you out just for 4 nights. That's so sad!

It is sad.Especially the way the economy is and people are actually paying these extreme amounts of money.Who know's we might show up in your neck of the woods.I was telling my daughter the other day that we might have to put the majority of our stuff in the hotel in storage with the rest of our stuff and get on a bus and go further out to find a place within reasonable cost to stay till February 3rd,when I get my next check.

dfollin,
Yes, it's fair. I'ts their hotel, they're in business to make money and they'll make more money when you move out. That's the way society is: money is more important than people.
As far as you and your daughter not being able to afford housing AND food, get yourselves on food stamps because THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE THERE FOR.
Buy yourself a crock-pot/slow-cooker too. A slow cooker, bullion cubes and a bag of beans will keep you from starving.
Happy MyLotting!

The federal goverment say's that a family of two cannot make anymore then $1,300 a month to get food stamps. So,I cannot get them. You also cannot get more then $834 to get medicade. My daughter can get it because her father is deceased. She was getting it for a while, but cannot have it now, because we do not have a lease with her name on it.I have a slow cooker, thanks for the idea.

Shouldn't there be a law to protect people like you? I mean they have no right to just put you out in the streets just so they can make more money! These sort of establishments are so .... EVIL (for lack of a better word!)
I do hope things go well for you! I just feel bad that you are victimized by profit driven fiends!

I empathise with you. It's a sad fact of life that there are people out there who still put money before anything else. Alas and woe there is not much you can do about it. With the coming of Xmas you'd certainly think that people would feel the love and be a little more generous.
I am in a similar situation on the money front, although I do own my home outright it has been a bit of a struggle this year with rates and higher food, petrol and even power increases and, with 3 young children, could quite merrily chuck this year out the door. Which I will certainly do.
I wish you all the best and hope a solution comes. Although I'm not a Christian or anything, a little faith that something good will happen, goes a long way.
All the best and (hopefully) a Very Merry Xmas

I do not think it is fair.
But In think this is sort of common nowadays. So, we have to adjust with such things or else, we might have to pick up a quarell.
