Is my pet's feeding schedule bad?

My pets have my on this schedule, if I don't do it exactly like this they meow or bark like crazy. 4am: Oldest cat wakes me up to be fed 6am: Dog wakes up to be let out and fed 7am: Kitten wakes up and wants fed noon: Older cat wants more food so I put down a bowl of dry food 1pm: Kitten meows at me to feed her, I go into the kitchen and see the oldest cat has eaten all the dry food, so I fill it up once more and my older cat comes running and actually eats the WHOLE bowl in under a minute. So I put a bowl of dry food up on a counter to feed the kitten. 6pm: Dog wants out again and gets its final feeding 7pm: Older cat wants even more food, so I give it a can of wet food, at the same time on the counter I give my kitten a pouch of wet food. midnight: Older cat meows until I wake up and expects me to feed her so I put down a bowl of dry. That cycle repeats every day, the reason there are jumps is when I am at work, however the exception is the 7pm to midnight jump they don't bug me then.

I really don't see what's wrong with it if it works for you. I'm just surprised it does work, because if I put food down for one of my dogs all of them would run to eat it. I guess cats are different...

I was hoping someone would notice if I was feeding them too much or not.

They sure have you well trained. I don't have dogs, but I feed my 4 cats canned food 2X a day, at 9AM and 5:30PM. They are supposed to eat at 6PM, but Josie starts nagging at 4:30, and I sometimes give in. No one wakes me up any more. Josie used to wake me, but I ignored her until it was time. She did learn when food was served. They don't get any dry food, so they wait until meal times. I have a friend with a dog. That dog eats once a day.

If it works for you, I guess it's fine. I'd be moving the 4 am cat back a little every day until I got it on schedule with the dog. I'd also be moving the kitten up a little every day until I had it at the same time as the dog. For my 2 cats, I leave dry food down all the time in an automatic feeder. Then I feed them their canned food during the day. That way they aren't waking me up just to feed them. My 2 dogs are outside dogs so they have learned to be thankful when I come out to feed them!!! (giggles) I usually feed them when I first get up unless it is unusually cold that morning. Then I might wait until it warms up a little. I don't think they care as they don't like getting up in the cold just to eat. They seem to like snuggling to keep warm until I get my butt out there!!! I only feed the dogs once & the cats once (unless you count the dry food that's always available). I had one dog I fed twice a day but he got really fat. Since then I feed my dogs once a day.

LOL. Well, they have got you trained haven't they? lol.. I am wondering if the older cat is being fed..just a bit too much.. how much does it weigh? My cats have a self feeder down all the time so they all just eat when they are hungry. This works great for me - I have no overweight cats so I have luckily no problem with cats that would overindulge themselves. My dogs also have food readily available. They have full bowls most always. if they eat and I notice the bowls are empty then I fill them back up. They don't have enough room in the kitchen to all eat side by side.. so this works well they all just eat when they get the urge. I do however feed my kittens can food every 4-6 hours or so. THey are getting over a cold and some lost weight so I am on a schedule with them to try to help them put weight back on. Plus they get their medicine at scheduled times too. with 4 dogs and 15 cats/kittens if I let my babies train me like you have been trained. I don't think I would get any sleep... the dogs do wake me up if I sleep past 8 (am or pm) and bark at the back of my head til I can't take it anymore...lol
