My husband and I started out with a few pieces we would put on a table top and slowly expanded. In fact, next year we are adding more elements to make our mountains look real and a skyline. It is fun. It looks better in person as you cannot see the whole thing and the camera does not do justice to the lighting. If I had a pro camera, maybe. Let me know if you like it. Click on this link. The site has a pop up ad, first (this is not a referral link), just close it and then look at the photos. I posted one here, too, but I could not get the entire thing into my camera. http://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211318&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211326&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211328&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211333&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211344&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211346&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211355&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211356&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211365&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211367&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211381&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211390&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211392&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211397&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211402&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211404&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211413&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211420&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211422&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211424&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211428&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211430&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211439&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211444&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211452&owner=nanajanethttp://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=13211457&owner=nanajanet

Beautiful! Do you have to leave it up year round? Where are you displaying it?

This is a wonderful creation nanajanet and must have taken some time to complete! Personally I just don't have the patience to be able to create something of even half this calibre and it must look beautiful when the lights are dimmed or out and it's all lit up! The fact that it was also a joint project between you and your husband is a testament to what the holiday spirit is all about! It will be a sad time when you have to take it down, but at least I guess this means you get to build it again the following year and continue to add to it further. I don't know if you have seen them before, but it reminds me of the mini villages and cottages that are made by an artist by the name of David Winters. His works are highly collectible and here is a link to his site if you have never had the chance to see what he creates: http://www.davidwintercottages.com/

"Whimsical"! I have always loved this word for some reason..... lol. Getting the people smaller then can all be part of the new improvement challenges year on year nanajanet. This is actually one of those challenges with a very positive aura around it for a change!

Oh, I like those! They are so whimsical! It is fun to do and more fun to have people come in and enjoy it. My father in law got us into the mode and, at first, ours was small and not much of anything. Now it is a challenge to make it better, every year. I fear, one year, it may take up the entire room! LOL I wish I had the gift of making my own houses and people, then it would all be sized properly. Right now some of the people would never fit in the doors, lol.

Wow..don't know how I missed this discussion but came across it just now. That is really beautiful and must have taken you a lot of patience to do. Looks fantastic. Do you keep it up all year??? How long did it take you to do all that anyway? I would love to do something like that myself..mmmm..maybe next Christmas??? Just yesterday I took down all the Christmas decorations I had up....and now the place looks bare and naked..

Yes, I like it very much, nanajanet. It is beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us. I imagine it must be very much fun to put together. How much time does it take you? You didn't invite us to look at the other pictures, but I peeked. I'm assuming they are your daughter and grand daughter. They are both lovely!

Thank you very much!! Yes that is my daughter and granddaughter. I love them so much!! It takes about three days to put it together but next year I am adding sky and more detail. I already bought the supplies and today I was outdoors, in the snow, spray painting the sky. I also intend to do more levels and we bought a few more pieces. Hopefully it will all fit!! LOL

Hello nanajanet. It is a well-made Christmas village of yours. I enjoy it a lot. I am wondering how you made it. It must have taken quite some time to build it. I think that it is a masterpiece. Thank you for sharing it together with the links with us. Merry Christmas and enjoy your beautiful village.

Well, I take NO credit for building the houses, etc., LOL. Those we bought, but I built wooden tables with plywood and 2x4 studs. I put white foam insulation on top of it and then built some levels to make it more three dimensional. They have things like roads, lights, fake snow, etc, that help you design it. I used the foam insulation for the mountains. It was fun and not hard, and does not take much talent, just some time. I would sit, look at it, make changes, look, make changes, etc., until I liked it, then put the finishing snow on it. We have a few things that move like the windmill, the skiers, etc.

Thanks but it was not very expensive. We slowly collected pieces over many years but always bought them after Christmas, when they were on sale for very cheap, or on Ebay. Now, the only thing we have to replace each year is the fake snow and spray snow. We always buy it after Christmas to find it cheaper.

This is absolutely gorgeous.. I used to do a few and thought that it was too much work, but nothing compared to this.. I think that it is great and you appear to have a bg enough spot for it to be displayed.. I think that you have done a great job..

You did a great job.. I gave most of my village pieces to my son and his wife for their first Christmas, but I think that I am going to do more on the village for next year.. I gave everything away except for about 8 of the bigger buildings, my fencing, the trees and a few of the accessories.. I put it up and it looks good, but I figured out after it was up, there was no place for anyone to live.. I have Dairy Farms, Walmart's, Coffee Shops, High Schools, Flower shops, but no houses.. I will have to invest in more property for next year.. Have a great evening..

Well, we sort of had to squish the rest of the furniture and remove a couple of pieces to fit it. We have a small house but it's very open, so it can sort of accommodate it. It is just fun to do!
