Is anyone sick of christmas or is it just me??

Hi there. I am sick of all the christmas stuff already. For one, I can't afford christmas. For another, I am just sick of all the commercialism. Every two seconds there is a commercial about it, and all these xmas specials. I may sound like a hum bug, maybe I am. But I just can't get in the spirit with no money. It seems like all people care about anymore is gifts and money. What about the real meaning of christmas? Does anyone celebrate that? In case anyone forgot, it is about Jesus.

Does anyone really enjoy the holidays? Let's face it, even those that are eager to get their Christmas decorations up are angry disgruntled Scrooges by Christmas Eve! With all the getting ready for, the buying for, the baking for, and the cooking for, and the preparing for the holidays people do forget, the purpose of the holiday which, at least for me is to spend time with those I love. The lead up to the holidays is so stressful I find. People expect you to be happy. The reality however is that December and January have the highest rate of depression than any other time of the year. Often people are reminded of what they do not have, the people they have lost, or must contend with family members during the holidays that they wouldn't otherwise associate with. So when Santa Claus said, "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas..." I don't think he was living in the 21st century!

I agree with you. For me, it reminds me every year that my dad is no longer here to enjoy it. That depresses me greatly. I remember when the holidays would come around he would get so pissed off about just putting up the tree. I am the same way. That is why I haven't put it up yet I guess. The work of putting it up just stesses me out. I have depression, and it is so much worse right now cause I am broke. And why don't people want to remember thier loved ones who have passed? It seems that no one wants to remember the good times. So, I have really lost the joy out of this holiday.

I'm not really sick of christmas I'm just kind of disappointed by the economy. I feel kind of depressed that I can't get any of my friends anything because I'm pretty much broke except for a bank account with like twenty four dollars in it or something. I don't really care about the Jesus meaning of Christmas it's kind of meaningless to me, however the family values and togetherness that Christmas brings with its season I will always support.

I am always sick of christmas because my name is Holly... During the holidays it's especially bad. Why do people think im more holiday oriented because my name is Holly. Deck the halls with MEEEE!!! LOL Anyways, yeah holidays do make you have to stretch everything out. Amnd when you're having a rough time as it is now you gotta buy everybody crap and get hell to pay if you dont. And then you have to find a darn pet sitter because the inlaws are too lazy to drive to your state. And who the hell wants to take care of yet another dog for christmas. So yes christmas is over soon THANK GOD!!!

Hey, Holly, my sister's name is Holly. Her birthday is eight days before Christmas! I'll have to ask her but I don't think that her friends make holiday jokes at her... Or if they do, she would either laugh or give them what for!

It seems you have forgot the meaning of Christmas as well or you wouldn't be so bitter about it. Instead of being upset about not being able to buy gifts, start thinking of something you could make to give people. I am not saying everyone wants a macaroni picture frame but you could bake cookies and decorate them. You could go to the dollar store and buy some little baskets or some kind of glass cups and put potpourri in them. Take something small and "jazz it up".

Well as far as your ex go, think of it like this, at least your son is getting all these great gifts and if that makes your son happy then you can be happy. Don't put any more thought into it. You don't have any brothers, sisters, cousins near by? If your son is going to be with your ex this year then maybe volunteer at some shelter? Churches always have something going on Christmas ex, you can go to that. Do you work? Maybe a co-worker will have you over. You have to let people know you don't have plans for the holidays b/c people are probably assuming you do.

I don't think I am being bitter about it. Just a little depressed. It has not been the same in my family since my dad passed away in 2005. I haven't gone to any of my families house since then. I haven't been invited. They don't seem to care anymore. And My ex will be bragging about how much he gets my son. He always does just to make me feel worthless. I don't even have enough spirit to put up a tree. So you can see why I have no spirit. If I had possitive people around me, maybe things would be different.

I am getting a little sick of all the mass marketing of commercialism that we see at this time of year. I mean people do seem to have forgotten that the only reason that we are here and are able to celebrate Christmas to begin with is the birth of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

isabellas, You are so right about the real meaning. It is about Jesus and what he did for us. Everyone should be celebrating him. It has gotten bad I think about all the spending. Everyone should spend thier time at church.

I don't have any money to spend this holiday season either. It makes me sort of sad. I am making gifts this year, In my business I make beaded jewlery, so I am making gifts for my Grand Daughters and my Mom. I have no idea what to get of give my Son. My other son is not to be found. So not only do I not know where he is but what he is doing either. I hope with all my heart that he is OK. I can't leave to go see anyone because my cats are in ;large cages on the back porch of the place I am staying. Things are at an all time low for me. I need to find a place to live and somehow get there to check it out. I would be happier if I could decorage a little but it's not happening. Alot of people get really depressed at the holidays. There are alot of people hurting this year, way more than usualy. That probably isn't helping your mood though. I hopoe you can find something to be happy about. Do you bake cookies? You could bake and give them as gifts. It doesn't have to be something bought. I like the handmade little gifts because they really do come from the heart. Joy, Peace and Good Will To All!!!!

I hope I have given you an idea of something to give. I know it is bad and I hope you can find some joy with your Son and your Cat. With businesses and all going under at an alarming rate, it's good to get back to basics and to be thankful for the things we do have. It helps to count your blessings every day. Think about a beautiful cloud or sunset or sunrise. The Moon when it's full or birds singing. Lots of things to count as blessings. People need to change their ways of thinking and realize how lucky we are to have the simple things. I hope your Holiday baking goes well!!!!

morningstar, I wish you luck in finding your son. That is so sad. No wonder you are not in the spirit. I hope your kitties are well to. I also hope you find that place to live that you are seeking. Things are at a all time low for me to. They have never been this bad. Alot of people are hurting right now, and I just hope that they can get past it and prosper. My son makes me happy, and my cat does. I don't care about material objects. I believe family and friends are more important. I could bake some that is a good idea. I like the homemade things better to, it says that it came from the heart. Take care!

A lot of people cannot afford christmas this year. But it shouldn't be about the money. But sadly it is. I am not sick of Christmas. I love Christmas wether I have the money or not. I am sick of the Christmas music though. It seems like that is all the radio plays anymore

Aprilsue, It shouldn't be about the money. I see so many people spend hundreds of dollars on presents and I think they are crazy. Going in the poor house. I am sick of the music to, so I don't even listen to the radio. It is all over the tv to.

I don't know if I'll ever tire of Christmas. The last 12 years, since I've been a mother, have been the best EVER! Seeing the excitement in my sons' eyes... that's priceless. I do agree, that it's very commercialized. I hope I'm not falling prey to it all, but I'm sure I have in some regards. After all, Santa does visit our home every year, and the boys make their wish lists, etc. But I do hope they see that we're focusing on family, and spending time together. The gifts that the boys give out are all hand made... so I believe that helps to keep things in check.

I am not sick of Christmas...I am sick of the fact that Christmas is way too commercialized these days. All the hype is created by big companies like walmart and Macys to make them money, and that is not why Christmas should be celebrated. I agree with you that a lot of people have forgotten that Jesus is the real reason we should celebrate Christmas...It is about the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...not about a dollar...

i am not sick of it but i am not really into it this year. i find as the years go by i am less and less interested and it all just becomes a chore including putting up the tree and on and on. i only go through the motions for my son because i want him to have happy christmas memories like i did when i was a kid. he likes christmas and i would not spoil it for him. i hate the commercialism of it too and i do not think people should go into hock just to buy gifts for others. there are too many materialistic people in this world anyway, not just at christmas.

HI, You are right. Today every festival has become more commercial and people conveniently forget the purpose of celebration. Festivals are meant for family get togethers - all members come together and exchange their love and regard for one another. There is no hard and fast rules for celebrations of any festivals. You can celebrate it in a simple way as well as with lot of pomp and show . The X'mas reminds you of the arrival of the divinity to earth . The message of X'mas is to "love and kindness towards your fellow beings". Jesus taught the world to be truthful and always think, talk and do good to yr fellow beings.

I fiinaly meet someone who feels the same way I do. Thank you!! I'm not sick of all the commercials or holiday movies. But I'm sick of all the gift giving. I think christmas is strictky for the kids when it comes to gifts. My mother asked me what I want for christmas last week and I said "absolutely nothing". Then I here her talking on the phone with my aunt saying she brought me 2 sweat suits. You don't know how pissed off I got. But I am trying to save money just like I think everyone is during these economic times. It is hard to get in the spirit with no money. I know some peolpe take it to heart with the Birth of Jesus , but I'm not real big on religion. I believe in god and all that, but the only thing I care about on christmas is that my family and friends are alive and well. I can celebrate christmas without all the gifts and presents. People feel the need to do things because it's a tradition. But why dooes it have to be? Unless you're still a kid, why do neccesarly have to exchange gifts on christmas?

I agree with you. I haven't got any gifts for 3 years. And it dosent bother me at all. But it does bother me that I cant get my son anything. He is 15 and things that age wants are so expensive. Video games, computer games, ect .. I believe in God and Jesus and I think it is more important to concentrate on that. Than worrying about gifts. I agree that the only thing I really care about is my family and friends being well to. That is present enough for me. But it still does bother me that my son will go without.

I'm sick and tired of the financial importance they give to Christmas instead of its true meaning which unfortunately I don't even know. Most of all, I'm sick of Christmas because it forces me to put up with all those bullsh*t reunions that they organize every year.
