Do you get any kind of weird feeling from people who can't use proper grammer?

If I am on the internet and I see something that someone has typed that is very hard to read, like "wut do u do wen ur husbind is cheetin on u?!!" I get this weird feeling. I feel as though I am communicating with someone who has a mental disability. I feel a little bit worried if I think the words I am using to reply back are too big. Now, I understand if someone speaks English as a second or third language, but when you speak English I don't think there's a good excuse. It makes me feel as though if I met this person in real life, I would have to talk very slowly. It just annoys me! I don't go around telling people "Oh, you spelled incubation wrong" and I'm not a grammar Nazi, it just annoys me is all. If you respond with something like "o yh i agree wid u" I will just... not give you the best response!

I can say that for me too.I am not comfortable with these kind of phrases.Well, as you say English being the second or third language cannot be an excuse. One can always improve on whatever he knows already. Some people never bother to improve their English and are satisfied with seeking lame excuses for their atrocious English.

Dear friend, I do have got these at times but it could just make me confused and may be a misunderstanding may occur. More over I too not that good in grammar. A normal grammar mistakes could be adjusted the others I would just try to not to comment unless I knew what the person wants to convey. May be if not got I could not comment it or may ask him to do it more clearly.

When I see something like that, I try even harder to use good grammar and spelling and to set an example. English is becoming a lost art and I imagine that languages all over the world are in the same boat with texting and slang and whatnot. When I read someone's post that doesn't speak good English because it's not their first language, I simplify a little bit but I try to challenge them a little--not enough to make them discouraged but enough to teach them something new. When I read something like you're talking about, I either ignore it and don't respond--the days I'm feeling like an old curmudgeon, that is--or I write as proper as I can so that perhaps they'll learn something.

Oh, I know how you feel about writing as proper as you can like that! I find it fun at times to use the biggest words I can, it almost makes me feel superior or something. Also, it just helps create a better understanding.

It doesnt give me a weird feelign by any means but man it annoys me to no end....When someone does NOT speak English as a first language but they are trying, I find that they way they write is COMPLETELY different to what you discribed...to me that netspeak or whatever the hell you want to call it is just lazy typing...and I can't stand it to be honest with you...

Obviously, even the native speakers don't write proper English and the fondness of using slang lingo just piss me off. English is my second language and am still a learner in this language and have found that putting proper sentences is better than writing in short forms or slang which makes it harder to understand for people who learn English the proper way.

I understand how you feel. It can be very annoying especially when you're trying to read something. We just have to remember that some people did not have the best education or they just can't spell very well.

I rarely get those feelings. Because I think not every people's native language is English nor mine. I think the peoples who using poor grammar at least trying to speak English. That is what I like most about them. They are trying hard but I think they could speak or write well only through practice. Whenever I meet peoples like that, I never get any weird feeling because at those times I myself know how will I speak some languages like portuguese, German etc.. If I have to speak or write in German language to a German person, again that person may get the same kind of weird feeling on me. So I usually don't care and appreciate them for at least trying.

In this day and age many people feel that it is okay to communicate in that shorthand version of english. I suppose that in a couple more decades that will be the standard for online communication since the people that have the most issue with it are older. It's a shame. If I can't understand you I would just as soon ignore anything you have to say.

I have seen a variety of howlers in my teaching experience. One student of mine had even gone to the extent of "boiling" the child in order to kill the bacteria before drinking the water. [he obviously wanted to boil the water before giving it to the child and I humorously pointed out his cannibalistic tendencies to him.It was a heary laugh for me and my people at home ; that was the only way I could prevent myself from blowing my top. Anyhow, to the sentence that you pointed out,I normally do not waste time going through such sentences because it is too much of a bother. I used to be terribly upset if I inadvertently made some typing errors and posted it after having overlooked it but after one valued member told me not to worry in mylot.com because a typo or two did not matter between friends , my attitude in this forum has taken a more lenient stand. I do not get any weird or peculiar feeling when I read sentences quoted as examples [in your discussion] but I just skip through this without a moment's thought.

No, not really. I just have this strong urge to correct them, lol. I don't do this though as it would be rude. I do however correct the children in the family, or others that hang around them. When people type the way you say, I just figure they want to take short cuts or are doing it somewhat like they are texting on the phone. Sometimes it just that their English is not well enough for them to do it properly. They will get there if they want to just by reading post on mylot. I would think anyway.

Internet Slang, is all it is. Those who have difficulties in reading or writing would not want you to dumb it down for them...

hey everyone does that now. it doesnt matter anymore. i mean it is a common practice to give emphasize on something or just want to shortcut things . I know it is not proper and sometimes it is so hard to understand the meaning but hey that's the essence of it.

Sheepie! I am going to assume that you spelled GRAMMAR wrong just for the purpose of this discussion alone. And yes, I do get that sense of self-righteous outrage when I am blatantly confronted with wrong spelling and grammar.
