I don't know if this question has been asked before, but is there anyone who actually thinks Vista is actually an improvement over XP, or at least just as good? Everyone I talk to hates it, and I do, too. When I needed to get a laptop I bought a used XP one rather that get one with Vista. The only thing it has that I like is Chess Titans, which isn't available for XP. Can anyone think of other advantages?

I'm a Vista user and really like vista because of the uniqueness that it has got over the windows xp and i think innovation is the key to sucess for anything that happens..have you ever wondered why you changed from the windows 98 to windows xp..? it is just the fact that you needed new things in life and you needed a upgrade from the old that is the main reason and that it is main reason for me also to change from xp to vista..i really needed some change and uniqueness from others operating system and thus have changed it and i'm quiet comfortable with that..even though i have some basic problems in the operating system...happy mylotting..

Well, I actually tried to buy a computer with XP pre-installed, as opposed to Vista. At the time, they only had 2-3 and they were the last of the XP pre-installs left; once they were gone, everything else would be Vista. I decided it would be silly to go with XP since Microsoft was about to end XP support. I got Vista because it's been 10 years since XP premiered and in another 3-4 years, XP will be in the minority. I would have liked to stay with XP at the time, but I'm glad I went with Vista. I would have ended-up paying more in the long run because I would have to upgrade at some point just to keep-up with the advancements online.

What you have done is right only but the real thing is that vista has been termed as a failure by microsoft itself and i suppose we should wait for the next version to come so that we sort out the problems with vista...

I have 2 computers, one with Vista, the other with XP. And having to work with XP for so many years, i think i'm more comfortable with XP as compared to Vista. But Vista still is some real annoying stuff, because it bugs you with all sorts of security stuff that you need to MANUALLY go configure to stop asking you everytime you're trying to execute an application. Sighs. XP ALL THE WAY!! (i guess :/ )

It isn't that hard to make UAC's more annoying functions go away... And to tell Security Center not to whine about it either.

64-bit, properly configured, is way more secure than xp. And it is prettier. As a Computer Science major, I have to have my eye candy on my MacBook Pro. Looks better than OS X. And this an Apple fanboy speaking.

I can't say i don't! because i haven't use Vista enough to tell this. What i can say is the Windows XP come with a lot of problems when have been release.. ok, less than vista have, but he have and now he is almost perfect. I believe is just give some time to them and the vista can become the best ;)

Microsoft is not giving Vista the time to do become much better. It has been such a public image failure (whether or not it deserved it), that they are focusing on Windows 7 now. Vista has only a year or 2 to live.

vista is one of the latest one in microsoft also it has fails. It is just for improvement of windows xp and they didn't build in correct way and rather it don't have correct features so may be the reason it fails in market. Now a days very less people are using vista most of them uses windows xp and more over vista takes a lot of memory and it needs a 1 gb ram this is also one of the reason that lack vista to be back....

What you're saying is true hitesh, but these days, you could get a good configuration PC for a very cheap price. so the hardware configuration should by now be less of a concern to the computer users as far as i see it. Though i shall say, i really don't know what microsoft people did, to bring up vista. Whether it's just the Core XP code redesigned or just a new code. :D

I had exactly the same problem with software. But I got Vista pretty early-on. While there were a lot of programs - even hardware - it didn't support then, I'm able to use just about everything I need now. You really shouldn't have too many issues these days, but like you said, with software that is no longer supported, you may need an XP box laying around, just in case. You are supposed to be able to use Compatibility Mode to workaround this, but I've never gotten it to work - even in XP - and don't know anyone else who has.

That's true indeed. I too had many problems with some softwares I use occasionally. Most of them were techinal Design softwares like Solid Works. but i hope Microsoft will fix this soon.

This question is obviously rather outmoded now since both Windows XP and Windows Vista are operating systems of the past, but it is one that I am answering because I feel strongly on this subject. I have personally used just about every operating system that Microsoft has released over the years, with Vista being the only one that I ever really disliked.

Vista is good but i was expecting it to be alot better than what it is. Windows XP was very good than what i expected. SO i was expecting the same from vista. But it actually makes the computer go run slow. It has too many confirmation messages. It has undoubtedly has very good looks. Good colors but it lacks performance.

Hey, Honestly I don't really like Vista that much. When I say that I don't like it, I am meaning that all Vista does is slow down your computer. Even though Vista is really nice and pretty to look at for your eyes, on the inside it is designed to chew up your computer to the very maximum it can. This is my opinion anway, and I have seen it do that with my laptop. Just saying to anyone who wants to buy a new laptop, see if you can buy the new laptop with Windows XP. If you HAVE to buy a computer with Windows Vista, make sure that it has at LEAST 2GB RAM! I only have 1GB RAM and Vista uses up about 599MB of RAM doing absolutely nothing! I just hope you read this before it is too late ;D

While browsing the net, I've managed to find that "modified" versions of VISTA are liked upon. Well, that's good news for computer junkies, but what about Microsoft? Does it profit from that. I guess not. ^^

Well I like how it look like but I really don't like it it is to complicated to all the software you have to install you have to give permission a lot of times also when you have to copy and paste a file on a program folder you have to give permision so you have to give permisions every time and sometimes it is frustraiting so I decided to change my Operating System to windows xp

Yes, the whole UAC thing is a real annoyance... no, not an "annoyance" - it's an actual hassle. I am afraid to completely disable it (which is very easy to do) because everyone talks about the security issues, but I'm getting to the point that it's a real option. Worse, you can't get to anything on your XP computer or folders because of the stupid thing. I absolutely hate UAC.

I have vista on my laptop and I haven't had any problems with it. I just bought my laptop this year so I don't know whether they have worked all the kinks out of it or what, because when my dad had vista it was awful, it wasn't compatible with certain programs. I am not like really really good with computers, but I'm not completely in the dark with them either. So pretty much I would recommend the new vista to people, but not the older versions.

Does anyone really like Vista? Yes I do. I have been using vista for a long time. Even for the first, my choice was to use Vista Ultimate, due to many reasons. First was, I wanted to experience the Full Windows Aero them, with windows dream scene. Some of you must have seen it, it's pretty cool, having a short looping video or something in the background rather than having a static wallpaper all the time.:D. Moreover, Vista has other cool stuff too, security and everything as far as I know, is improved over Windows XP. Previously, I too had, many problems regarding the softwares I used. But later on, after the release of Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1, all those problems were fixed for the most part. Since I was using an updated Desktop PC, with a good configuration of hardware, i happen to understand that Vista Ultimate was indeed faster and reliable. But then, it's been a while since i bought my notebook, with pre-installed Vista Home Premium addition, now that I am facing some problems regarding softwares. and the keyboard keys, that are not configured correctly, happens to be annoyingly problamatic. But all in all, Vista Happen to be good, and i love it:D
