I usually enjoy buffets, especially if they have a wide range of dishes to choose from. I would select a small helping from each dish, and if I like it, I would go for second or even third helpings. This way, I won't waste food, and I get to try new dishes, eat as much of those that I like.

I like both. I often choose the buffet, because that gives me the chance to eat many different kinds of food, and I like eating dishes that I don't know. My favourite buffet is Indian or Chinese. Sometimes I choose cook to order and I usually choose a dish that I have never had before. There have been times when the food has been very different from my expectations, but I still prefer to take the chance and I prefer to order a dish that I've never had before.

I like trying new things too Porcospino. I don't chance trying to many things with cook to order though. If I don't like it,I'm stuck with it. I like the buffets for that. I can try a little bit and if I like it,I can get more or remember the dish when I do go to a cook to order place. Thanks for the response!

When I eat out I usually prefer buffets. They are faster, cheaper, and I can eat a huge amounts of food
. I usually skip a meal or two beforehand, so I can really get my money's worth.
When I prefer a really quality meal, I cook it myself. I'm not the best cook, but I use incredible recipes, which makes the results (even from a mediocre cook like myself) pretty good.
I go to www.allrecipes.com
and search for what I want. Then I sort them by ratings and only use recipes that have very high ratings from at minimum 25 people. That generally means the meal will be quite good. And that is a lot cheaper than a decent restaurant.
That and I always tend to over-tip cute waitresses if they flirt with me, which isn't so good for the wallet

Buffets can definately be a good deal for a healthy eater. Home cooking can be better than any too. Especially with a good recipe. I try new things at home quite a bit too. I'll have to try that website. Good thing there's not any waitresses on there.

I like them both. The advantage of buffet is that you can eat a dish again and again, as you said... But the disadvantage is that hot plates becomes cold soon... for example, in buffets I never eat pasta, because it's cold and cold pasta is really disgusting!! then, there is too moviment and too much confusion and mess.
when I go to eat out is to try something that I never eat, generally, and even to be served .. I enjoy buffets too, anyway..
what about you?

I have two buffets I like here in my town. One is chinese and the other just a variety. I like going at the end of lunch, first of dinner so that I can cash in on all the very fresh food. There are times when I want to be served and maybe even have a mixed drink with my dinner. Then I prefer the cook to order more. Thanks for the response.

I prefer cook to order then buffets, since I'm not a great eater.
Cook to order suite me and my family better since we know how much we can eat.
Eating buffet for me and my family just wasting money, because the price and what my family can't eat is not balance.

I think that I prefer made to order. In general, I find that the food is of a higher quality. This also depends on the restaurant that you are eating at.
I also enjoy buffets because they give the eater a wide variety to choose from. Buffets also offer the added bonus that you can go for something else if you don't like whats on your plate. When you get a made to order dish, you don't have many options if you don't like it.
I think most of this depends on the eating establishment that you are attending. If it is a higher quality place, I love to try the buffets because normally the food is quite unique and delicious.
Another factor that may influence your decision is the budget you have for food. Normally a good buffet will be more expensive than a made to order meal.

Hi surveytaker! When I go to a cook to order resturant I definately stick to what I know I like. Sometimes that's just what I want. When I go to a buffet,I do enjoy trying things I wouldn't dare order as a meal. I'm quite open to trying new things if I know I'm not limited to it.Thanks for the response.

Hiya Annjilena...I agree with you there. It does encourage over eating. I know everytime I go I can barely move when I leave..lol. Maybe I should stick to cook to order food. When I do cook to order..I always get full and am satisfied with the meal.

I like to eat at both kind of restaurants. It depends on my mood for the day. Although, there is only one buffet restaurant that we laways frequent. The other ones in our area are not that good. For buffet restaurants, it is really about the quantity.

I loved yhe buffet in Vegas I went to. I stayed at the Imperial Palace and they had a very nice layout! The second time I stayed at Harrahs but my grandmother's favorite was at the Imperial Palace...so we ate there again.lol It was very clean too I might add.

I eat at both and can't say I would choose one over the other. My only problem with buffets is the sanitation. All of the people that have gone in front of you may have not washed their hands, been sick, picked their nose, etc. Especially with little children who don't think of things like that. A bit germaphobic maybe, but still.

Hi dookuman..I was wondering when someone would bring up the sanitation issue. I know that alot of people that don't like buffets don't like them for that reason. I don't think it's germaphobic at all. I went to a buffet in Gatlinburg once and there were so many people in there you couldn't move and there was food everywhere on the buffet...I left immediantly.I'm very picky about the buffets I go to. Thanks for the response

Buffets are popular for our family because of the variety - not quantity. Plus, we have young kids and buffets really seem less formal so I don't have to feel so bad if my kids drop their food on the floor or get grouchy.... I like to think that my kids are well behaved, but sometimes you can't predict what's going to happen! lol
