What operating system you use for your computer? I am presently using Microsoft windows XP service pack 2. But I plan to upgrade it to Windows Vista. Any comments or suggestions on this?

I also recommend you not to install Vista coz it is much larger than XP and require more RAM to run.It means we must update our hardware to use it on our desktop or notebook.Compared to it,XP is much fasster and has better backward compatibility.I also recommend you Linux. If you are not a fun of computer games,I think it is really a good choice for you.It is almost virus-free,very cool OS.What's more,it is free to use.You can have a try on Ubuntu,it is very easy to use.

My dear friend, May I have the privilege to suggest you to switch over to Linux. There are lot of Linux flavours which are free and open source. If you are planning to but a original version of WINDOWS OS, it is good. If you planning to install a pirated version, then please give a try to original/free/open source linux os. Which is far superior to MICROSOFT WINDOWS. You can try linux dvd coming as complements with magazine like DIGIT, PCQUEST etc. List of linux os (REDHAT, SABOYON, MANDRIVA etc) All the best!

If you switch to Linux, I would suggest Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, or Mandriva. In that order. Others free distributions tend to be only "hacker-friendly" and a pain for other people to install and configure. If you want to pay for something that should be free, RedHat and Novell Suse are excellent distributions. But you have to pay for them. Slackware if you are brave ;) (Don't do that to yourself-you will probably be in over your head...).

I am using windows xp without service pack two.i don't think upgrading to vista will be better because it needs a high configuration. Some applications compatible with vista will not be compatible with xp.Also vista is not do secure as xp.

I personally would stick with windows xp and not upgrade to windows vista but if you want to upgrade to vista then make sure that your system meets the minimum system requirements of vista. You need a minimum of 1GB Ram but preferably more. On windows xp we now have service pack 3 so you should go to the Microsoft updates site and get your system updated automatically. I would persoally do this but the choice is yours. You can probably wait until Windows 7 comes out, the operating system after vista. Windows 7 is supposed to sort out the problems of vista! Good luck. Andrew

2 GB RAM for Vista. MINIMUM. Having that said, I run Vista and like it. At first, I was skeptical, as that is my responsibility to be, being in IT, but... I tried it and haven't used XP except at work and on VMs since. Not that XP is bad, but Vista with SP1 is just as good (truth be told, the 64-bit version is better). And prettier. The geek in me had to have its eye candy.

I am using Windows XP in my personal computer, it's the original version that came together when I bought this desktop. I might get a new laptop for myself, I think the new computers are now coming together with Windows Vista. I have no comments on Windows Vista.

Our laptops and older desktop have Windows XP, but our newer desktop had Windows Vista. I doubt that we'll upgrade those computers, at least not at this time, because we just don't have the money at this time.

MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.5.5, Boot Camp to Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit, and Ubuntu 64-bit. And an unlimited number of other flavors of those on Parallels Desktop VMs. I love it.

I have two computers. My old desktop has XP on it and my new laptop has Vista. Initially I really hated Vista because a lot of my existing software was not compatible with it which resulted in my having to purchase newer versions, for example my old Nero 6 burning software that I loved using on my old Pc does not work on Vista so it had to be replaced with a newer version I am still trying to get used to. I have had my laptop since October and I just getting accustomed to Vista and it does not seem as bad now, but I confess that initially I asked my technician if he would reinstall XP on it. I know several people who have done that and who don't like Vista at all. I don't really like it but I am getting used to it.

If you planning to upgrade to vista then you should also plan to buy new devices as they might not be supported in vista. I am using xp service pack3 and is operating amazingy so I wouln't encourage anyone to use vista as it has lot of stress and always causing problems. Yes the look is great but whats the use of having a great looking os which cause lot of problems?

I'm currently using Windows Vista dual booted with Centos Linux. My laptop uses Windows XP Service Pack 3. I still like Windows XP better than Windows Vista. Vista might have some very unique features, but XP is still my Windows operating System of choice.

I bought a new laptop computer and it came with Windows vista. It seems to work fine but I have some games that I had previously purchased and I can't use them on my laptop. They work with Windows XP but not with Vista. They are games by Oberon and I think that they are working on a fix for them but in the meantime, I can't play them on my new computer.

I'm using Microsoft XP SP3 and it is working fine for me. I won't be upgrading to Vista since it is very memory consuming. If you have a super PC, then you might be able to handle the high requirements. Otherwise, I'll advise you to stick with XP until a better Windows comes around.

i used windows xp as my operating system till last year but now i upgrade to linux due to its more features than xp.i think its better to upgrade linux other than vista ..windows vista is just an upgradation of windows xp it does nt contain the features of linux..and also you can get the fast internet access through linux..my friend first used vista as operating system and then he upgraded to linux due to its fastness...

with this topic, i'm of the same opinion as most. my suggestion would be... if it ain't broken, don't fix it. either stick with your XP or try something else other than VISTA. I am currently using the same as your setup (XP SP2). Just like most of my friends, I upgraded to VISTA early this year. But I never got to enjoy the supposed useful features. There were far too many problems being caused by the upgrade. Some of my devices suddenly became uncompatible. Some apps were experiencing technical problems. Not to mention the annoying frequent reboots. i ended up downgrading and going back to my more reliable XP setup. Everything went well again after that. I've been using XP for quite some time now. At its current state, its obviously more stable than VISTA.
