Several movies have been made about serial killers ,names like Ted Bundy ,Jack The Ripper, John Wayne Gacy have all been immortalized in movies. What I am curious to find out is why are these brutal and savage men being made famous for infamy.
Also couldn’t such an action serve as an incentive for upcoming serial killers especially when they know their actions could be made into a movie ,flattering don’t you think ?.Another incentive is that some serial killers like Jack The Ripper, the most famous of them all were never caught, is perhaps the ultimate attraction, everyone loves a movie where the stars walk off into the sunset to live happily ever after. Another feature of some of these movies is that they show the art of killing as well as some techniques for evading the law.
I am going to be as balanced as I can be and argue that these movies might serve as a detractor in instances where the serial killers are captured. I am also going to argue that these movies could serve as information as to the history of serial killers but apart from those two points ,I cannot find sufficient reasons to justify why movies like these should be made. Certainly I think they have very little entertainment value ,there is very little pleasantry to these movies.
One last question that has always crossed my mind is how do the families of the victims cope when they see these movies
If you can find overwhelming evidence to justify the making of these movies ,do highlight them ,please.

If I had a family member who was a victim of a serial killer I would not like the story to be put into a movie. I think it is a private matter and it should remain so. I think that the "culture" of serial killers and make them almost a myth should stop. It might give ideas to other people. It is not the first time that serial killers are familiar with other serial killers modus operandi and sometimes imitate them.

I have never thought about this one to be honest, but I suppose you are right,I could never sit through Jack the Ripper as I found it to frightening.I suppose we do not get many serial killers in the world ,it is the fascination of some psychotic nutter who kills for the fun of it with no concience.I certainly don't want to see the details of what these poor people went through for entertainment.like you say what about members of the family still alive, bad enough when it happened without it all being dragged up again especially after all those years.Morbid is the word I have been searching for I think.x

I, myself, have been fascinated by serial killers for many years. What makes these people do what they do? What makes them so cold and unfeeling? Oh, I understand the psychological reasoning but I believe that there is good in everyone and how can a man kill his wife and children? This has happened alot. One of the reasons that Jack the Ripper was never caught was because he was too smart and was able to outsmart the police time and time again. Serial killers are very intelligent. The movies are made because horror and acts of weird and discusting deprevity SELLS! It is all for the money. Look how popular the Saw series is and the Grudge and Cannibal Hollocaust and afew of those. Discusting as they are they SELL!

I do agree with you very much, I actually have never thought of your viewpoints before, because I do watch these movies for the entertainment value. I find these movies very entertaining. I do not really know how to respond, because I have never thought of this viewpoint, but you are very correct.
