nope.. i wouldnt dare to leave our doors open..
too many sicko's out there.. i dont worry so much about losing my belongings -
i fear more about the safety of my family, of my beautiful children, of my beloved mom..
i dont even let play within the house compound if there is no one watching after them..
my husband says i am 'over paranoid' - i say i am just being 'extra careful'..
either way.. to me.. 'prevention is always better than cure' + 'better be safe than sorry'..
peace!

I live in a very little town, so I leave my door open when I run to the store or go for a short outing. If I lived in a bigger town I won't do this anymore. That will be my hardest adjustment when I move to a bigger town as I hope to do soon.

Excellent question. My answer is sadly no. I think that day is gone. I remember growing up and my nearly blind grandmother never locking her door until one night someone came in and rustled through some of her things and when she made notice they left. She called my mom and from that day forward we made sure she was locked up at night. I really do not believe that the old days of trustfulness is gone.

I wish it too but too bad we can't trust anybody now a days. we really don't know if their is still a safe place for everyone. Things happen from time to time even the place you think is the safest place.

Hi annjilena..I live in a small city and even though I probably could..I still won't. I don't know if we'll see for a very long time the day we can comfortably sleep with our doors open. Crime comes so suddenly..we just never know. It would be nice but with poverty and job loss on the rise,I just don't think it will be any time soon if ever.

Honestly? I don't see that happening. I think it's just going to get worse, unless the punishment system in this country is revamped so that the punishments fit the crimes.
Our government keeps getting rid of programs that help the citizens, programs like vocational training. We also need the unemployment rate to drop sharply; we need more jobs in this country. We need less American companies sending their work overseas where labor is cheaper, and we need less foreigners coming in, buying up American companies and bringing in people from their countries to work in them. We need stricter laws regarding work visas for foreigners coming to the U.S. and taking jobs away from American citizens.
We need a MUCH better educational system! It seems, right now, that school is nothing more than day-care centers. I've seen so many people who have high school diplomas who can't spell! Some can barely read! Teachers seem to fear the students. Heaven forbid they punish a student for doing something bad... they'll most likely get sued by the kid's parents!
I don't know what's happened to this country. Crime is increasing everywhere. Gangs pop up everywhere now and I honestly believe that they are the biggest ones to fear! I recently watched a program about gangs. "Initiation" often entails killing an innocent person. WHY????? How did they get to be so big a group in the first place? Where are the police? I guess they're busy hiding behind the 7-Elevens eating their donuts and drinking their coffee.
I honestly don't see it getting any better until humans no longer exist. It's scary and it's very, very sad.

During the last 7 years I was completely comfortable leaving the back door open and just the screen door shut. But only because I had a really large german shepherd. He would alert us to anyone coming around and he scared off a burglar on more than one occasion. But unfortunately last month I had to have him put to sleep due to poor health. Now I'm not so comfortable doing this and I've been locking my doors each night. Its even gotten me thinking about one day getting another german shepherd. I always felt safe with him around and I miss his smilee doggy face too.

Well, maybe it is possible one day that we all live in peace and harmony however I will sure not survive it. Recently they roobed my stereo from my car, which was nothing valuable, imaging leaving the door open. As if saying to robbers come on this is all free for you to get, and this time of year robbery increases a lot. Hope one fine day everyone wakes up in peace and in harmony :)
