I was on my way to the mall today and I saw 2 teens standing right across the street from their school. I know there is no smoking on school grounds. But what about if you're outside? Of course there were no teachers around to see this, asa I'm sure they probably would've have disciplined these students. It just surprised me to see that these guys were smoking right in front of the school. It looked like they were standing outside for lunch having a smoke break before they went back inside for classes. Like they were having a smoke break at work lol. For those of you who have kids, what's the policy on this? Even if you are not on school grounds are you allowed to smoke even if you're a teen? I'm pretty sure the same laws apply to smoking and underage drinking if I'm not mistaken. I just find it starnge that 2 kids in this day and age would stand right in front of a school with cigaretes in their mouths like they aren't even worried that someone might see them.

I was a smoker in high school and I wasn't afraid to smoke in front of the school. As long as we were off campus, I knew that the school couldn't do anything except voice their opinion. But then again, it was in the 80's. We would also smoke in the restroom between classes. Of course, we were taken to the principals office if we ever got caught. If we were not allowed to leave campus for lunch, but if we did, we would get busted to leaving campus, but not the smoking. Isn't that messed up?

Well, I don't have kids because I single. But if I would have kids like those smoking teens, I would have really taught them a lesson about discipline. Its really hard to track each and every kid in the school because teachers have responsibilities for lots of kids. But if they really found out who the culprits are then severe actions must be taken against them. Hope to read your reply soon. Thanks Bye....

It is hard to keep track of every student. Buty these kids were rigth in front of the school doing this. Standing across the street right out in the open. Maybe the teachers or principals didn't think that any students would even be smoking right outside of the school like that. But then again as screwed up as this world is today, I wouldn't be surprised if the rules allow kids to do what they want as long as they're not on school property.

i dont think you can and that doesnt stop teens , ya know . the girls would always smoke in the batroom , or outside somewhere . soon as school was out most smokers would light up right when the door opened and the air . the age keeps getting younger . the other day i rode pass my old school and the kids had to be no more than 12 and were smoking , and it looked sad.

Teenagers should not be smoking at all, especially on school grounds. Even if they are outside. The rules of the school need to be followed by everyone, not by just a select few. For those teenagers to be able to get away with smoking on school grounds, that means that the teachers and other staff weren't doing they're job of which they are being paid for, and that goes for the principal, as well, when it comes to enforcing rules and regulations designed to keep the students safe, and teaching them to be law obiding citizens.

No ones allowed to smoke on school grounds. I don't think if you're even on your way to school or on your way home you're allowed to smoke until you're actually at home and come back out or something like that. I lived right behind my high school and there was this area in front of the walk way kids who went to my school would be smoking there before school. Of course it wouldn't be long until administration found out because the people who lived around there complained about all these kids smoking all the time. My neighbors complained to the city I think and they had that place locked so no one could walk down there. They even had administrators sometimes walk down that way to see if anyone would be smoking and they'd get in trouble. Because they closed that walk way I had to walk further down the street to get to school. It only added another 2 minutes or so, but it was still upsetting that because of dumb kids who decided to smoke right near the school that everyone who walked was punished.

At least the neighbors complaines about it. Maybe that's what i should've done. I should have driven my car right through the front lobby and started honking my horn lol. I wonder what would've happened if a teacher or principal would've came outside and saw these 2 students? These guys seemed like they didn'd even care that they were standing across the street out in the open right in front of the school.

As long as they are off school grounds they're safe. The worse that could happen is a teacher see them and confront them. They may or may not call their parents, but if they have permission to smoke from their parents, nothing anyone can do about it. They can smoke them, but they can't buy them. Now steps in the law where adults can't buy cigs for underage teenagers...Usually teens that are caught with cigs will not tell anyone that their parents bought them. They will say they took them from the parents or someone else. Doesn't make much sense to me but neither does the fact that you can still, by law, get hanged for stealing a horse in Kentucky or Penn! Smoking is really bad. Kids were never allowed to smoke and also retailers must not sell this stuffs to kids. Smoke destroys your lungs and also weaken your heart. Hope anyone is aware of this. You will not suffer on the early years but on the older years.:)
