I buy those lightbulbs that use less energy I dont use plastic bags at the store (I eiter buy the cloth ones, or if its a small load, i just carry it out by hand) I am going to plant fruits and veggies in my yard in the spring (so I dont use petroleum to buy them from the store) I am working on convincing the town I live in to recycle (work in progress) I dont use the heated drying cycle for my dishwasher, and I almost always use cold water for my laundry. I am just doing a few little things to help, it makes me feel good. I wish I could do more, but I cant afford some of the changes I would like to make. So...What are you doing???

Hi like othher alternate of Diesel and Gasoline two are very popular here in Pakistan one is "CNG=Compressed natural gas" in this along with gasoline, a kit is installeed for CNG consumtion and cylinder is fillted in trunk of car, at Gas station, they have huge compressors who compress the natural gas into liquid form and fill it in Cylender, that is used as Fuel Other is LPG "Low propane Gas, i think u dont need it in USA now as Gsoline prices are at lowest level now Take care

I'm trying to cut back on our plastic. We go through so much plastic at times, it's not even funny. If I can, I buy stuff in aluminum cans because we can cash those in for money later. I'm also making our own laundry soap, and I'm going to try and make our own fabric softener once I'm finished with the last bottle I bought. I'm close to haing it finished here soon. One by one, I'm going to make my own cleaning supplies. I'll be able to reuse certain items, and I won't have as many chemicals lying around my house.

I like the laundry soap idea. I have heard of that before, and even found a recipie for it, but I have to be honest and say I have not even tried to make it. It seems very time comsuming, but I do need to give it a try. What recipe do you use?

While most of the receipes are the same, the receipe I use is from the Duggar family website. The receipe gives me 10 gallons of detergent, and it lasts me a few months. I haven't quite gotten the numbers down yet, so we'll see. Even if it doesn't last me quite as long as the stuff you buy in the store, it costs only like 1%, or something like that, so it'll still be cheap.

Well in my opinion you're doing a lot already. Though I am busy I try to segregate recycle and non-recycle garbage so that if it is useful people can recycle and it won't be a waste in the garbage bin. I use cold water too for my laundry. Been doing that for years now and my clothes are still good. I minimize use of plastic too as much as possible. I also use the back of old paper as a scratch so that I can use the most out of it. Hoping there will be more people like you who cares about the earth. Take care =)

While I was still working in the Philippies, one of our program's advocacies is preserving the environment. This could be done in various ways and I can name a few of them: Using bio-degradable products/materials, using organic fertilizers in farms, using recycled materials in offices, schools and homes. We also encouraged people and our benificiaries to make compost pets for their garbage and waste products instead of burning them as this will not only prevent damages to ozone layers but also making compost pets/trench can make soil more fertile. Using glasses in drinking and brushing is advised as this can save more water usage for households. These might just few little things one can do to preserve the environment, but if these are done by evrybody we can expect a biiger change for sustainable development.

Petroleum based fertilizers is one of the most used items in the world, and I think thats ridiculios because like you said there is such a thing as organic fertilizers! I wish more people used those instead of the latter. I really like you idea to use glasses to save water, I will do that!

I am doing a couple of those. Considering i live with my family though its hard to choose my own lifestyles untill i am on my own. I do use nothing but cold water to wash. I also try to substitute diapers with underwear while at home. I try to reuse things when i can. I am like you i can't afford to go green right now. I will once i have my own place and i can afford it.

I use cold water for my laundry as well. I also save soda cans. My husband will cash them and any copper in for money. We have no recycling bin. Otherwi8se we would recycle. I use as less electricity as possible. No fans, lights or tv on when not in use.

I always switch off electrical appliances when not in use. I also make sure that the taps are in perfect condition so that no water is wasted due to leakage. I would like to use low-wattage lamps but my eyesight is not so good and also my son is a student who needs as much light as possible.

You certainly do a lot. I certainly recycle. My mom always encouraged my sister and I to recycle. So, I do that now in my apartment, out of habit and for the environment. I bought one of those pro-environment bags for my groceries. I always try to make sure that I have a lot of clothes when I do my laundry. Enough to fill up the machine.

Well I don't think I am doing much in comparison to Americans in saving the environment but I am doing a lot in comparison to my local people here. I don't throw things out in the road, if i have to then i only throw the things which decay in the mud and not on the road. There are no proper dumping sites in my area so I usually carry the trash with me in my bad and throw them whenever I see a dumping site. that's at least what I can do to save the environment.

hi there jess368! yes, our planet is in danger of being totally devastated soon thanks to mankind's pollution and greed. it is fortunate that the number of concerned humans is growing, and that they're taking steps (bold or small) to help reduce their negative impact on the planet, or even reverse the damage done in the past. for most of us, we're only ordinary people and we cannot afford massive efforts such as "wind power plants", solar power plants or hydrogen-fuel cell technologies. but we can still do our small yet effective efforts in helping save the planet. in my case, i do a few small but possibly environmentally-responsible actions: - i'm switching from regular unleaded petrol to the current E10 fuel (the one with 10% blended ethanol). and if given the chance, and if newer biofuels arrive in the Philippines, i will move to them as long as the Mazda3 can handle that fuel (for example, E20, E50, E80 and E90) - even though i'm using slightly less polluting fuel, i still plan my trips well to see if the carbon footprint is of an acceptable level. - i drive efficiently, which means less fuel consumption and less fuel inefficiency - i take the bus or train whenever possible, especially in the Philippines' horrible traffic conditions (which makes you burn more fuel) - i do not waste water. i turn off the tap when not needed during brushing. i do quick showers instead of using a tub. sometimes, i try using water from a bucket because sometimes it uses less water than a shower head - using CFLs and fluorescent lamps instead of incandescent bulbs - using less electricity by using my laptop more often (80W adapter) instead of the desktop PC (350W) - using the right size of airconditioner for the room (0.6HP, 650W) and using it only when needed - segregating trash to biodegradable, plastic-recyclable and glass-recyclable - disposing of harmful items such as batteries properly - observing more electricity consumption measures (unplugging appliances, chargers, etc.) - probably switching to a diesel-powered car when my current petrol-powered car would need to be replaced; or switch to a hybrid or fuel cell vehicle when my country eventually allows the entry of such vehicles these are small and seemingly insignificant efforts, but if everyone on the planet does his/her small share, we can make a big and lasting impact to help save the planet. thanks and more power to you guys! =)

i am doing wat i can do maximum for it that is the absolute minimum essential for everyone like saving electricity, paper, putting my vehicle off while standing at stoppages, use my vehicles only in case of utmost need else i prefer to use public transport like metro trains and helping to keep the envirement around me green.

I'm trying to remember to turn off my light switches when I'm not in the room. This is hard for me. Harder than it should be actually. I'm also really looking into getting a greenswitch will kill off vampire load when I'm not using electronic equipment. The biggest change I made in 2008 is reusing both sides of a printed page when applicable.

I live in a country where a lot of the things you are cutting down on are not every day occurances for us. We hand wash our clothes, air dry them and use our plastic bags or other shopping bags over and over again because throwing them away all the time is very expensive. We however use a lot of firewood and charcoal for cooking, which may not be good for the environment but there are very limited sibstitutes for this.

well there is a new torch light which is generated using the dynamo theory of bicycle. you nid to rotate the handle several time to charge up the energy for using. I have a couple of those. It helps save electric bills and reduction in battery usage and disposal. ya i've been using cloth bags to store stuff rather than plastic bags. Collecting the water used to wash your dishes, you can also use them to water your plant. Water after laundry can be use as the same too. Collecting rain water can help solve the water bills. ^^
