I am sure most of you know about the Duggers. They even have their own show. THey just had their 18th child. They also said they want more. Their children go from 20 yeras old down to 1 year old. Wow that is a lot of kids. But they are able to afford it (without public assistance)so I guess if it makes them happy ti is ok. I have my hands full with two so I do not want anymore. what about you, do you want a large family or have a large family? Large families seem to coming back. Not too long ago people were just having one or two now I am seeing more families with five or more children. What do you think is causing this (besides the obvious thing). Why are families getting bigger?

why not? Myabe people are catholic and don't believe that you should practice brth control. Maybe people are right-to-lifers maybe people don't know how to use birth control maybe there are cultural issues that make it desireable for them to have a large family. I always knew I would have 4. I din't stop cuz I only wanted 4. It's just the way it worked out. What about you?

I have two. I do not see me wanting 18 children. That is too many to ME to be able to handle. But this family seems to be doing fine with all those kids.

I don't see anything wrong with anybody having kids and having as many as they want, but isn't there a point where you say enough's, enough? I can't see why a person would want 18 kids, I think I would go nuts with just one, and the lady who's having them, what she's putting her poor body through. If it was me, I would have to tell my husband that I'm done, no more. I guess if they can take care of all of them with no problems, then go for it. I come from a big family, not a large family, there are 5 of us kids, and it was fun growing up, and we're all still getting along for the most part. I don't think I would want that many kids tho, I don't have any, but if I was going to, I would at least have one. I don't know why families are getting bigger, everybody must be having more relations these days, is all I can say..lol.

i wonder if they are trying for more? eventually, the mother will just wear out i would think. seriously, its so not fair to the kids if they have a lot of kids because the child does not get that much needed one on one time with its parents (we have friends who have 9 kids!)

I just saw that they had their 18th child. I can't even imagine having that many children and kudos to them for being able to raise them with out public assistance. I have 4 children and that is perfect for us. I couldn't even imagine even being able to afford anymore. Just paying for the sports and equiptment they need to participate in activities is hard for us to come up with the money.

They must be very rich. Plus the money they get from the TV shows they do. They say they are completely debt free. That their house and everything is paid for in cash. They do not use credit.

I don't have any kids right now, and I debate between wanting any and wanting one or two. I think when people have big families like this it's usually due to religious beliefs. I.e. most of the time they belong to religions that are against birth control and other things. I rarely see people with big families who aren't a part of those type of religions.

I have noticed larger families lately. In my neighborhood there are alot of families with four or five kids. And my mom works with several people with 5 or more. I do not know their religions. I guess some people just like having a lot of kids. I know my mom wanted a large family but only had two due to health problems. It was not a religious thing. It was she wanted lots of kids. She was raised in a large family too.

I love children....but 18 of them? I think the real reason I have a problem with having that many kids is...where is your one on one time w/each child? I know that atleast a couple of their kids are out of the house right? But are always around to help!? But where do you get the interaction of being with your child!? I don't know...and I'm not sure why we are seeing sooooo many large families again. The economy is still not doing that well from where I am from...why would people want to have that many kids to try to give a good life to. I know that is not the case for the Duggers but that is for a lot of large families. I don't know.... I love children but my max number is 4 and I already half way there!:)

Actually the only one out of the house is Josh. He married his fiancee, Anna, back in May and is looking foward to being a father himself. There is an article about them in this week's People magazine or you can read it online at www.people.com and then search for the Duggars.

It is nice to know that this family does not rely on public assistance. At the same time I think the world is overpopulated as it is and to have such large families does not help to ease the strain. I also cannot image that each child gets the attention that is required in order for the child to grow up self confident and educated enough to earn a living that allows them to be comfortable. What about the mother? In the 19th century families had many many children but the mortality rate for women was greater than that for men and it was not uncommon for a man to be married two or three times. Granted a lot of these deaths were due to infections following childbirth, however I think there must be a great strain on a woman's body if she has a child basically every year. The organs do not have time to get back to normal. Be it as it may, I am sure this couple knows about birthcontrol and does not wish to excercise it. To each their own.

I think birth control is against their religion. Other than that I think they just like having a large family.

Sure why not. If they want a million children let them. I say when the world gets too over crowed a whole bunch of people will die at the same time or in the same time frame because there isn't enough food and water. That is just a thought. I say one child is enough unless a man wants a healthy nondisabled son to have his name to make a world record for the most generations to share the same name.

personally I do not want that many. but if they can support them...and they can they are rich...then why not. If it makes them happy. As for the whole running out of food thing...well with rich they are ....we will be running out of food before they will because they will be able to pay really high prices for it.

You have to wonder what it's going to be like when the kids start having kids, especially if all the kids are planning on just letting nature go as it will. If the family were to stop at 18 kids, and each kids had 18 kids, that would be 324 grandchildren, and I don't even want to even contemplate the great-grandkids. You could have your own army with that many people

actually their children span from 20 down to a day old since she just gave birth again. my mother was from a large family (13 kids) and im the middle of 5.. i wanted to have 4 which is rather large in this day and age i guess with most families only having 1 or 2 and stopping there, if they have any at all. as much as i love having kids and being a mom.. i think id go absolutely insane being perpetually pregnant for 20 years straight LOL but to each their own

Is this the family out of Arkansas? Either way I think it is just crazy. Do you really think that all the kids get the attention that they need? There is just to many and it is not good on the mothers body to have this many kids.

mom and dad have enough money that they do not have to work so they both stay home with the kids all day. Personally I could not handle that many. But they seem to be doing fine. The kids seem really nice and polite. They do not have TV they spend their time as a family doing things and not just sitting in front of a TV all day. They seem to spend a lot of time together as a family. Personally I could not handle that many. But they seem to do it just fine.

I love this family., we could all learn something from them of value. Although chose a differnt path, and only had 5 kids, I know some who have 8, 10, 12. It takes a lot of love and to manage a huge household like thiers and I think they are doing a fine job.

Their children are se well behaved. I think they are doing a good job. They have to be super organized people to be able to do it as well as they do.

Yes! I myself have four daughters and my two cousins have five each. Larger families are more off now than ten or twenty years ago. I wish that large family with eighteen children well. Goodness! that Mother is a busy one.

I believe the baby's name is Jordan Grace. It was another girl. I am in awe of this family. They have 18 children now, the eldest, Josh, got married this past May. The family has 0 debt and pay for everything you see themselves. They do not rely on welfare or public aid or anything for anything they need. They've said more than once on TV that if they want it, but can't afford it, they save until they can pay cash. The kids all appear to be very well behaved and well mannered. That right there alone is enough to make me like them. I see women and men with one child that acts out so badly, I'd be embarrased to call that child my own if we were in public and my child started acting that badly. They've also said before that they believe birth control causes abortions and miscarraiges and it's going against God's will. I personally don't follow that line of thinking, but if having 20+ kids is what God wants for this woman, knock yourself out. I think it's fantastic that a family is raising so many children with strict beliefs such as theirs. I just wish more parents followed suit.

I am in awe of them everytime I see one of their shows. There children are so well behaved and they are a really close family. I personally do not know if could handle that many. But they are doing a good job of raising their children.
