Can you survive without a computer

I am sick, unfortunately it's something wrong with my eyes and then the doctor told me not to look at computer screen or TV or books. My eyes need a rest, for a whole week. God, but today I am feeling better after taking some pills and then I can't wait to turn on my laptop. It's weird to keep it shut down while I am at home. I stared at it all the time though not at the screen, and that makes me feel better. My bf is jealous my computer coz he said the I spent much more time with my thinkpad than with him! Lol. And I joked if my computer's got a pinu!, he can retire, lol. So I really got to thinking, how many hour are you spending with yr computer? And can you survive without a computer? Share yr thoughts!

Well, I can survive without computer. But the truth is, we depend already on the technology today. Most of us use computer for quicker access to information. I don't need it but I want it. It means that, I can live without it but I would be happy if I have it.:) hehe

My computer is my main link to the outside world, I don't socialize and spend most of my time at home in the safety of my own home, I make a bit of money on the computer, I chat and make friends with my computer and it keeps me occupied, it's also entertaining, without it, would be like going without my fix, I would be totally and utterly lost, my lifeline severed. I would have to get used to it but it wouldn't be easy. I am far too dependent on my computer, but I think it's the internet that is the main reason behind rather than the actual computer itself, without the internet, I wouldn't use my computer hardly at all!

Hi friend! You better take care of your eyes than on your computer. We can survive without a computer but it is difficult to live without the eye sight. So dont play with the eye sickness. You can still sit on computer when you are out of your eye sickness. Be careful and have a nice day.

I thought I could survive without a computer, but then my computer broke down and that made me realize how I addicted to my computer that I've become I don't know how many hours I spend online, but it is a lot. I feel lost without my computer, because I use it for so many different things, and there are so many things that I participate in via the computer. My computer has become a big part of my daily life, probably too big a part....

I'm in middle school, so I need my laptop a lot for homework and assignments. I wouldn't be able to survive without it, because all of my work is one there! I am always at home on my laptop, surfing the web and playing games. I probably wouldn't be able to last even 5 hours...

I can certainly survive without a computer and during vacations and holidays, I don't even miss it. I used to worry and obsess if I can't log into my computer even for just a day but I have gotten over it. Normally, I spend at least 8 hours a day with a computer but I can do away with it anytime. It does make my life easier and keeping in touch a with friends and relatives who are abroad just like a walk in the park but I can live without the compute if necessary. There are times that I may need to check important things even during vacations or holiday, but then again, i can still do without it and survive.

hm, I spend many hours on my computer, on msn, playing games etc, sometimes I switch from my computer to the laptop etc:O and when i am on laptop, I watch T.V:P, when i have school i wake up at like 6:30am in the morning, go on laptop till like 8:10am and then go to school, when i get home at like 3:15pm, I go straight on computer -.- or laptop lol. and stay on till about 11:30 o.o and go to bed after, and wake up at 6:30 etc... although, on weekends... I'm on from 6:00am on that day to like 3:00am the next morning, or... i do have all nighters sometimes on the weekend with my mate from msn etc. I could not survive without computer since I'd really be bored otherwise. My mates irl are not really my mates:O so i spend my time on computer etc. that's it:p

Technically I can certainly survive without a computer but it sure would feel like I'm not! I admit I am guilty of spending too long on the computer. Sadly it is my little seven year old daughter who occasionally asks me to "pleeeease!!Shut it down, mummy!". It is at those times that I have to take stock of just how long I spend in front of the PC. It is hard because as a writer I obtain a lot of enjoyment from typing my thoughts into my laptop and then there's MyLot of course, I have to make myself shut it down and spend some time with my family. I am getting better, I try to close it off when school finishes each day. Holidays are a challenge!

Hi myskina, I checked you out and you are in Xi'an city. Wonderful place! You really spend too much time with yr pc and I guess you have to eat a lot of carrots to make up for your eyes, lol. I am having a rest for this whole week at home to make my eyes feel better, haha. That's the doctor's order and I have to obey it. Merry Christmas to you, my friend!

Oh, My friend, pay attention to your eyes and your health, please. I feel quite regretful about my long-time using computer, because my eyesight dropped heavily these days. But I can hardly continue my study without computer, so use the computer for a while and then rest your eyes for a while will be the best method.

The time that i spend on my computer is the only thing that i am not able to control in my life, lol. When i start to surf, it just begin with one page and then continues to many other web sites caused by the mass of information that internet provides us those days. So I say that I spend over 11 hours per day on my computer.

I hope your eyes feels better soon Denise The longest I have been without a computer was for 7 months I believe, this was back in 2002 . I can survive without a computer but it's difficult to go without a computer once you have had one for years then stop. I depend on my computer a lot for many things. If I need a number I use the Yellow Pages online, if I need movie times I check for it online. If I need news & any type of information I use my computer online for this as well.Oh and I love shopping online and listing to music on my computer and I'm addicted to Adobe Photoshop. I do many types of things on my computer and life is different without it. I usually watch more TV,read more books & play with our Playstation more when I don't have a computer. My son has his own computer also so we are all pretty much addicted to having computers in my household..lol

Denise_Tung, I would not want to be in the same situation as you are, and I certainly would not be going against the doctor's "orders" here. I suppose one has really got to have some self control especially when using the computers be it the workstation or laptop. I would advocate that you do the sensible after your recovery and not have yourself staring at the screen over long periods of time. Take a break, what's there to catch up and/or more important than your own health? Besides, you need to be aware that there might be the risk of radiation as well, and over long periods, you might be asking for real problems especially with fertility issues. So, don't do things that you will regret later. You are still young and time is still on your side. Take care and compliments of the season.

What's a pinu?! Anyway, like you, I am on the computer every day. I don't think I've missed a single day so far, hehe. I'm so addicted to the internet because there's so much information on it! It's not really the computer that I need but the internet connection. I think I'll be okay without the computer only if I'm on vacation and there are new places to visit every day. As long as I am occupied, I won't need the internet for a while.

Oh,sorry to hear about your eyes! I hope that wasn't from the computer? And I have had to survive without my eyesight for a few weeks. Awhile ago I had the wrong contacts prescribed to me and they scratched my eyes up. I had to put drops in every few hours. It was awful. I don't think I could survive without the internet now though! I am always online-for work and for talking to friends. I use it all the time! I would be really sad if I couldn't use it. I am probably online way too much also.

My job requires me to look at a monitor the whole day I'm in the office. WHen I get back home, I do the same thing, but more on personal stuffs. I'd say I spend a good 14 hours in front of my pc, so yes I can't survive without a computer, and an internet connection for a day.

ofcourse not. it is very nasty to live without a computer. i will also spend most of the day with the computer in my home. i will share thoughts with my friends through mails. without computer life is bore. as i experenced it. one or other day i got my computer problemed. then i got confusion, but i can do nothing. i left it and brought another one. but sitting and working with the computer leads in to many problems like eye sickness and many others. as i told as iam a doctor. thank you.
