Another Oil Price Roll Back... Who is happy here?...

I think all of us know this news... just yesterday morning small and big time oil companies implemented a 2 peso rollback or all oil products... so that makes oil prices play between 32 - 34 php... this i think is nice... but with the current international oil price per barrel... more roll backs should be made... and with the current competition between oil companies... for sure more will happen in the future no matter how minimal it will be... It is a good thing that the oil industry here in our country is deregularized or else the so called big three will have control on how oil is to be sold to the public... So now everytime i ride the tricycle and the drive would demand more money... i would just tell him that the oil prices are already down... so it is time for them to lessen the fare... even without the order of the local government... that would always leave them silent... So how happy are you with the current oil prices?...

The roll back is a privilege to the chosen few, life has always been like this. I am a commuter, and despite the roll back I still pay the same amount when the oil was on its peak.

That is so sad... i was able to enjoy a significant fare rollback when i went to manila... a bus company reduce their fare to almost half just to get more commuters... and that is a good thing... i was able to save a good amount because of that... Thanks for the response...

I read that the LTFRB, transport groups, and commuter representatives will talk about fare reduction on February... but i hope it will be sooner than that...

I just hope the price roll back will take effect soon, it would be unfair if we still pay the same amount when the world market price had already decrease.

Oh my... that is so sad... there will be an election here in my country in 2010... so a lot of those who want to stay in their position are trying to make the common people happy... and the oil price rollback is a great way to do this... i hope you government will find ways in pleasing the masses... rather than the priviledged few... Thanks for the response...

Does this mean that the oil industry in your country is controlled by the government?... because if that is the case... then they can dictate the price... unlike in my country where there are several competiting companies... so prices go down because they want to get more customers... Thanks for the response...

Hi. Though, I am predicting that in the next few weeks the oil prices might increase. Anyways, when I visited Mindanao last month, I could see how the small gas/oil players fair well. Can you imagine Shell, Petron and Caltex have this P 28.00 - P 29.00 per liter range of gasul price. I find this astonishing. How I wish in Metro Manila, the small players will help in reducing the costs of oil.

Just saw in the news that the there will be a .50 centavos rollback on diesel price... but .75 increase on other oil products... but not explanation as to why... in the rural areas in my province... diesel is actually only 27.50 per liter... 4 pesos lower that those in the urban area... Thanks for the response...

The current oil prices are still expensive but are more tolerable. What I really can't tolerate is the lack of discipline in our country's traffic. Sometimes the MMDA do a good job, sometimes I'd hear a driver report that he bribed some traffic enforcer just to get out of the hook - so what the heck right? Well that's getting out of topic LOL - Anyway, regarding competition between oil companies, did you notice when Shell, Caltex and Petron wouldn't pull down their prices and some small(er) time company rolled back at least Php5? Well that's what I call real competition! In about a few days, Shell, Caltex and Petron just had to post the right prices. Thanks for the comment on my discussion!

Well, that is the best thing about competition in the business world... consumers are the ones who mostly benefit from this... i just hope these oil companies big and small will not develop a sort of cartel to control oil prices in the future... Thanks for the response...

I am not happy at all but i feel disgusted. Not with the oil players/companies but with the transport groups like Piston because they're kind of hesitant to bring down the fare! First they said that when gas price reaches 36, they will decrease fare.. then now it's around 32-34, they want to bring it down more at around 26 before they'll make a fare rollback. They're becoming to sound arrogant. They act as if they're for the masses but now they're the ones making it hard for us.

Well, the more that person talks infront of the camera... the more i see that he is in it for the money... if they do not decrese the fare... that would show they are not different from the money greedy big three oil companies...

I agree with you... it seems like the oil companies are not the only ones taking advantage of the situation... these piston people are really getting on a lot of nerves because of what they are doing... and they are definitely losing a lot of their credibility... Thanks for the response...

Piston just lost their credibility to me. I hate them especially the spokesperson because he doesn't seem true to his words. They're starting to grow horns. They're short of manipulating these oil players who already agreed to rollbacks. I hope these Pistons people will start to decrease fare for fairness and word of honor.

I am really happy about that because my husband and I travel most of the time. I think the oil companies are still generous enough to bring down their oil prices. Well, I also think that more rollbacks will be made next year since the oil price in the world market continues to decrease. I just hope that there will also be fare decreases so that our public commuters will have their share in the decrease of oil prices.

Well... if this continues... a fare rollback is inevitable... i just reduce the fare that i pay when i ride the tricycle... and bluntly tell them about the oil price rollback if they ask for more... Thanks for the response...

That is so brave of you! I wonder if you did not have any arguments with the tricycle drivers for making your own fare decrease.

I am pretty happy about the price of oil! If it could stay like this for a while that would be wonderful considering the state of our economy. I hope it does, but for now I am just greatfull it has dropped so low!

Well, if the current oil price in the world market continues on like this... most likely there will be more rollbacks... and this is like a great balancing effect to the current world economic crisis... Thanks for the response...

Hi there aseretdd! I am very happy about all these oil price rollback! This means that I can get more fuel for a lower price. Considering that I really love long driving, I wouldn't have to worry much about how much I have to spend just for me to be able to go far. I hope they would reduce prices a little more. I can't wait to be back on the road again driving from one place to another!

If there is a Unioil station near you... i think they just had a big rollback... but the big oil companies did not follow suit... but i think they would have to or else car owners will flock unioil stations... it is good that you are enjoying the rollbacks... Thanks for the response...

Hello aseretdd, I am one of those happy people! We got another reduction on Dec 16. Now the price is at RM1.80 per liter. That is really good. Before the economy downturn, the price was at RM1.92. When it went up to RM2.70, that was the worst scenario. I stopped traveling to unnecessary places and only used the car to travel to and fro the office. With a new price, I definitely feel much better

You know what... oil prices in your country is much cheaper than in mine... because ours cost like RM 2+... i wonder why the difference... since for sure we get oil from the same source... well i think it has something to do with how the government run things... Thanks for the response...

I wouldn't necessarily say Im happy but certainly not complaining because it does feel good to be able to get 5 gallons with just a few bucks instead of spending a bunch for a quick gallon. i have diesel so Im so happy it last and now Im paying 2.38/gallon which is fantastic because I can get around again. I am much more aware of prices now that we had that 4.99/gal scare. Another thing is that even though I enjoy the prices I am trying to get back to using public transit. Driving has made me lazy and I feel like in general I miss so much more in my day to day life with driving--like life is literally passing me by so quick. I hope many more of us become more aware of this and make the change to use public transit to get around at least half of our trips.

Well, most of the people i know depend on public transportation... and that is like the cheapest way to get around... not very comfortable... but at least one can get by through life even without owning a vehicle... but i am just glad that oil prices decrease... hopefully there will be more... Thanks for the response...

Some drivers still get 8 php saying that they do not have .50 centavos change... so it is always wise to give the exact fare... and i read that they will be talking about the next fare rollback by February... i hope that will be sooner... Thanks for the response...

We have this in England the oil price drops and the fares stay the same. The trouble is they have brought the fuel for the month at one price and cannot drop the fares right away then by the time the cheap oil filters through we have all forgotten about it and they keep the fares where they are and find another excuse not to decrease the fares it is unfair. Our petrol fares have fallen but our bus fares are £5 to get to the nearest town to get shopping that is about $7 american dollars,I have no idea about pesos so I cannot convert it for you ,but trust me it is expensive. It seems to be the same the world over.

Oh my... that is certainly expensive... around 350 php... and that can already buy a lot of things here in my country... it is just a good thing that most Filipinos do not forget such things... so oil companies and transport groups are always forced to reduce their prices because lot of people are watching them... Thanks for the response...

Well, the mayor of my city has just started regulating the tricycle fare but some are to stubborn to follow... but i would tell them the correct fare and if they insist on what they want... i wouldn't have second thoughts about reporting them... and that would cause them a lot of problems... Thanks for the response...

I'm so happy that the prices of gas went down. At least we don't spend so much anymore for our two cars. When the gas went up to P60, I just parked my car and either took the PUJ or ride in my husband's car.

I commute everyday I've got 3 rides going to work I am supposed to be happy because of the roll back but it doesn't affect my budget in my fare because only a total of 1 peso rollback on our fare, if only if their going to roll back the oil price they should have a big roll back on fare also.

Well, the LTFRB said that they will talk about another fare roll back one February... which i think is too far away... but then... even if we commuters are not directly affected... the effect on us is in the indirect way... which is better than nothing at all... Thanks for the response...

I think they are a little sad because that means less profit for them... but then... they are already earning millions and millions... so it won't hurt to reduce the oill prices more... and that would certainly create more demand for oil... so it is actually a win win situation... Thanks for the response...
