Eggs are vegetarian, as they are not the meat of an animal. they are not a living thing, killed for consumption, so they are suitable for consumption by vegetarians (they're rather like a chickens period, to be blunt, the discarded unfertilised ovum and "womb" lining) the people who couldn't eat eggs by dietary choice are Vegans. those who eat no animal products. no dairy, no eggs, no honey, and so on. Vegetarians eat no animal flesh. Vegans eat nothing produced by an animal

Hello j4 and welcome to myLot. Vegetarians do eat eggs and other diary products. They just don't eat the flesh of any animals. These vegetarians are called Lacto-vegetarians or Lacto-ovo vegetarians. Then there are the vegans. They don't eat any thing that comes from animal. don't eat honey which as you know is produced by the honey bees. They feel that harvesting honey is steeling the bees food or that some bees are harmed by it.

Chickens are certainly not vegetarian. They love worms, bugs, grubs, caterpillars and even picking over the carcase of last Sunday's roast chicken (which might well have been one of their sisters!) Eggs don't grow on trees or bushes and we don't dig them out of the ground. They come out of chickens' bottoms. No way are they vegetarian! On the other hand, if the eggs aren't fertile, we are not killing an animal to get them (just as we don't kill a cow to get milk), so "no animals were harmed in the process". It all depends on what you consider vegetarian. If you go to Spain and order 'un pocadillo vegetal' (a vegetarian sandwich) you are almost certain to get tuna in it!

There are different types of vegetarians, some eat eggs and milk, some only milk and some only eggs and some no animal products at all (vegans). The main definition of being a vegetarian is not eating meat.

I am a vegetarian, but I do eat eggs. I think eating egg is vegetarian because one does not eat any animal flesh or kill any animal for eating. I am trying to limit eggs as far as possible. I think fruits and vegetable diet are better than nonveg diet.

As far am concerned, egg is neither a vegetarian product nor it is a non-vegetarian product, but at the same time can be included in both. I do have friends who do not eat non-vegetarian food, but they like egg and use to have them too. I call them as eggitarian. Just like a wave having high, medium, and low frequency; I think between this vegetarian and non-vegetarian classification, there must come a classification like eggitarian. :-)

Vegetarians who eat eggs and eat and drink dairy products are lacto ovo vegetarians. Those that don't are vegans.

Most people who are vegetarians have no problem with eating eggs. They are a good source of protein. Vegetarians need to work harder to get the correct amount of protein in their diet because they do not eat meats. Eggs can provide some extra protein. I find that most vegetarians have no problem eating an egg because technically, it is not an animal. Vegans are people who do not eat any products that come from animals. Vegans would not eat an egg because it is produced by chickens.
