If you could create one law, what would it be?

mine would be to put in jail with no parole ever, if a government elected official took a bribe or payment for favorable treatment.

Yes, I agree with you, the one who indulges in corruption, should be punished strictly, so that others could take a lesson from him.

I think would like to have a law of words, no bad words allowed, if one does do it his/her tonge should be cut off so that he/she may never talk again. One of the reason that we cannot attain world peace for we always say bad things to each and everyone, that can hurt others and lead to trouble. Harsh word is like a sword that can hurt you deeply and sometimes make you crazy.

Haven't you ever heard the saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me"? I think that law is a bit too harsh. Thank God we have freedom of speech, and nobody can take that away from us.

I think that is a very scary idea. I appreciate your concern for kindness, but to allow a group of bureaucrats to determine what kind of speech is appropriate is bound to be a bad thing. That means the government has the right to determine right and wrong, and what happens when what we believe is right get mad wrong by the government. That is only one step away from the government making it illegal to say anything critical about the government itself. And I know of no good government which has ever held a law restricting the freedom to criticize the government when it is wrong. There are plenty of terrible and oppressive governments that have done so. So while I wish people would use nice speech, I think this is not a job for the government, but rather for people naturally interacting with each other for the betterment of treatment of each other.

@ katsmeow1213, Yes this is too harsh to everyone so they must be very careful in uttering words. Just like here in mylot, have you notice that mostly people here are nice for bad words are not allowed. That saying is my first time to hear it but i dont believe in that for what you heard will always put in your mind and can make impact in your life positively or negativity, just like what riyasam said. @ brian_s, Well we can always say bad thing in positive way and in a nice way that will not hurt others feelings. If everybody is good and you are the only one doing the bad things, i think you will be change and make good instead. I still believe that someone is watching in everything that we do either good and bad and their is always a result in it, if not today maybe later.

This indeed is a very interesting discussion.I would like to put these politicians behind bars, who are elected by the people but who do nothing for the people who enjoy their status and power and and concerned in accumulating wealth for themselves. These selfish politicians should be punished severely.

LAW that wouldn't allow anyone, irrespective of their stature, status, riches and influence to get away with the crime they do. That means a LAW over and above all laws that we have. we have a great judiciary system and The laws are well defined and quite apt. I just wish there would have been a sound executionary system to ensure that. great post!

If there is one law I would like to create, it would be a law against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. So that Filipinos will be protected away from her. I mean, if she would be seated again, I would see to it that she will be imprison for life because of the corruption she has done to the country.

I want a law that restricts government growth. I would love if a law would be mad that would restrict the government budget increases to the rate of inflation, meaning that they could never again just add government programs and tax us to get the money. I would also like to see a law that prohibits government from ever going into deeper debt, ever, meaning that they couldn't spend a penny more than they are getting in tax revenue. Ideally I want to see government shrink in every aspect. Big government means oppression. The more control the government has over the daily lives of its citizens the more terrible and oppressive and anti-freedom the government is. I would really like to see the amendment allowing a personal income tax be repealed. I don't think that the government should have the right to force us to work for them for half the year (that is basically what the income tax is).

My idea of a great law, which covers a lot of what's been in other posts on this issue, would be that nobody can ever be dishonest! That includes politicians, of course, but if we were able to get the dishonesty out of our lives entirely, nobody would be ripped off or taken advantage of. Now THAT's a law I could get behind!

Sorry I don't think there is room and I sure don't want to support them for the rest of their lives. Let's just shoot them and get it over with. Maybe we could be more clever and create a punishment that made them have to live with the results of their crime. If they approve pork spending let them have to work with the poor who lost out on financial help and live under the same conditions. I'm sure you can think of more punishments

What is the point in punishing a personwho is already punished? Governemnt pays their employees so little that it is a wonder how they are working on that pay. If i were asked to make one law, i would make a law to carry out investigation against terrorists, rapists and murderers within 72 hours and hang them if foudn guilty. Such people have no right to be kept alive.
