When you use credit cards...

I had some stuff to get today and had to use my credit card. I notice many people are using their credit cards this times of year. Anyway, I notice something disturbing, people never ask for my id when I use my card. I understand in local and/or store I frequent, but this has happened to me even in stores I've never been to before that day. So, when you go to stores do you get asked to show id when you use credit cards?

I noticed this before as well. When I worked in retail, we were told to only ask for id if the card was not signed. This is why I did not sign my card. Most of the time, people will ask to see id unless I use it as debit. If it used as debit, there is no point to asking for id because you have to know the pin to use the card. Most people do not verify identities anymore and that is why I think it is best not to sign the name strip on the back of your card. I would much rather be safe than sorry.

That seems a little cavalier ,we have to sign or chip and pin in England so we don't use id as such .We put it into a machine and press a pin number in only we know what it is,or they check our signature strip on the back of the card,My writing is so bad no one could copy mine,be careful.
