How can a store REALLY BAN some one from it?

im talking like walmart and other chain stores?? they always say some one is banned for whatever reason (stealing or fraud) but if they get like thousands of people a day going there and then have thousands of stores all over the country how do they really expect to ban some one?

such as the story above saying that those two women are banned from all walmarts in this nation.. um my old town i lived in had 6 super walmarts and not many people that lived there so there is no way unless they did a face check at the doors (and even then) to make sure they never showed up..
why even bother saying that unless its 1 store that could recognize everyone that comes in?

I think it's said more as a scare tactic than anything else. I mean, if these banned people were stupid enough to go back to the same store they were banned from, someone just might recognize them. It's not like this happens every day and, unless these banned people have a very common and forgettable face, the store manager just may remember these people.
I remember, back in the day, when someone was caught shoplifting or something, they'd be taken to the 'back room' where their information was collected. They weren't normally arrested way back when, but if they tried to come back and pay with a check or credit card, the cashiers would be aware of these persons' names and they COULD be arrested at that point.
I saw a billboard once with a picture and the name of a notorious shoplifter around town. I thought that was GREAT! If you didn't want everyone knowing that you were a shoplifter or thief, you'd stop doing it!
I wish they'd do more of that sort of thing, especially with "deadbeat dads"; those guys who don't pay child support. I've often thought that a public service announcement should be aired on local TV channels with the pictures and names of parents who were behind in child support for over $1,000.
Maybe the same should be done with those people who have been banned from specific stores. Instead of being arrested, these people should have to go through the humiliation of having their picture and name plastered all over the place!
But, sadly, I think this is one very big problem with our country... punishment usually does not fit the crime. That's why there is so much crime in our country. If punishments were stricter AND enforced, crime rate would drop dramatically!
Sorry, I got a bit off-topic here but one thing just seemed to naturally follow another.

I dont know how or why they can ban a person from there store but if and when they do its would be understandable if someone is stealing or committing some kind of crime, but if a person isn't doing anything wrong they shouldn't have to worry about it, as for how they can ban someone they do have surveillance cameras in those stores and secuirty and I think they keep a file if someone is caught doing something wrong, so if they happen to spot a person that is on there ban list I guess thats how but I dont know for sure.

I don't think they can ban them from every Wlamrt in America. As they are not all owned by the same person. Some are privately owned. But they can ban them from that store. All they have to do is post their pictures in the meployees lounge and tell them to alert anyone if they appear.

Well maybe they can't do face checks, but they can store their personal data in the wal-mart database and if they would buy with a credit card, it wouldn't allow them to.
But I think that would be against profit, so it might just be a thing to scare people (although I don't see it working).

Well unless they put Do Not Let This Person Enter with the person's pic on all their Walmarts, then they can't really bann you..but just the thought they think might scare the person into thinking something awful might happen to them may make them stay away..lol..
