Yup...that's my next project on the list for today. To throw out all the leftover cookies that no one ate. We had so much food that it's a shame but I am tossing them or I'll eat them! And I offered them to my daughter for their trip but they had their fill too.....so do you have alot of leftover cookies or treats from the holidays? Are you having your own cookie toss?

Hi jillhill, Personally, I give all left over cookies etc to the nearest infirmary - what used to known as a 'poor house'. first though, I reheat them in the oven to make then more crisp. I try to collect from other people in my area and then make one trip. I also beg for soap, old wash cloths and towels - and in fact any cleaning supplies also as they aere always short of all supplies. These are old or mentally challenged adults who have been left in these places by their relatives who are no longer able to care for them. In some cases, obviously, they do not want to care for them. It ios a heartrending sight and they are so happy to see a new face. Blessings

My parents REALLY need to do that. In addition to the desserts they made for our own family Christmas, my grandmother sent them home with another two pies. Add to the chocolate truffles they were given by a neighbor, and they need to toss or be ready to join a gym!

My parents and I, as well as a few friends of my dad, are going on a "health expedition" starting January 2nd. My focus is losing weight gradually, because most people keep it off better when they lose weight slowly. My goal is to go down two dress sizes this year. My dad wants to shed fifty pounds, as does my mother, but I don't think my mom needs to lose that much - no way!

I lost a little weight before Christmas because I was so busy....I have every intention of keeping it off....the only thing I can't throw are a few things my granddaughter didn't finish up and the chocolates that my SIL brought back from Belgium!

Since I can't stand to throw anything away, I ate everything we had here that was chocolate. I mean everything and all by myself. I had to get on the scale yesterday and see how much damage I did and was really surprised to see that I didn't gain. In fact, lost a few pounds. My metobolism has always worked the opposite and I can pretty much eat and drink anything without gaining. It's a good thing too or I would weigh 500 pounds by the end of the year..lol

Yes! Somehow, when I wrote my post, I managed to miss yours! By all means, donate them to someone. Waste is a sin. It's hard to understand why, in this season of GIVING, only the 2 of us thought of giving them away! Maggiepie

cookies - christmas cookies
I have some cookies but they are still good. I have a red velvet cake that I am about to throw out and a lot of dressing. We always have a lot of food left over after the holidays but when I cook less we run out and people are still hungry.

I know. I always worry about having enough then end up with too much...the leftover ham though will soon become soup?!

I did the cookie toss yesterday but we still have a platter of goodies on the table. I have a little get together for New Years. On the platter is toffee, dehydrated apples, sugar cookies, oranges, tangerines, and nectarines. The fruit has been handy because everybody has had their fill of sweets.

Those are a good alternative to cookies and all the sweets! A good veggie tray would be in order too!

I gave them all to the grandchildren and their parents so there is no more cookies to worry about it. I am lucky that nothing went to waste and nothing is leftover. I sent the last container out when they brought me home. So good luck with your toss, or maybe find someone who would like some cookies....

I had mini cinnamon loaves and some "annoying to make" cookies that consist of chopped pecans, butter, brandy and flour, etc. Then after that's all mixed, ya have to roll dough and make little logs. After they're baked you have to manage to get most of them off the cookie sheets...some break, of course. Powdered sugar and then dip one end in melted chocolate. There was no way I was gonna throw them out after all that... So I made some cookie plates and added some lemon squares...then delivered them to friends. Mostly because I don't want to eat them either, lol.

Oh no! Oh no! Throw out Christmas Cookies? Throw them my way jill!, haha! I'll even pay for the shipping! I read where alot of people are telling you to freeze them, that's a great idea. Plus, in one response you said they were drying out. You know what I do? Even with some cookies out of a bag, I throw them in the microwave for a few seconds until they're warm. 99% of the time, they'll come out soft and chewy. Throw out Christmas Cookies?..no, no, no, lol! Take care Jill!

Gosh, I did not bake a single cookie this holiday season. I am hanging on by my fingernails with the whole weight thing. I had guests and still didn't even bake cookies for them. Now, how bad is that? I had a couple of boxes of candy and also some nuts that I set out for guests. Plus my sister makes those darn homemade candies that no one can stay away from, so I had some of those to share. We had no leftover treats. One of the guests brought a chocolate marble cake that I had a piece of, but when he left, we made him take the rest of the cake with him, lol! I am like you, though, if I'd had alot of stuff sitting around, I'd want to get rid of it so I wouldn't eat it. Anyhoo, there'll be no cookie tossing around here. Take care.

It's such a temptation....next year I am only going to bake cut outs....that's it! Some of what I baked was because my daughter wanted them....just too much!

Well, I tried to make just enough so nothing would go to waste. I still have a black forest cupcake that is begging to be eaten and some chocolate/maraschino cherry cookies that are in the same category. Everything else is gone...thank goodness. I still have Trinidad Black Cake left over and well that could stay for a year or more without going bad. In fact the longer it sits, the better it tastes! I'm not having a cookie toss today but I am having a general food toss (unfortunately) Actually, all of the food is still good as it is only a couple days old but whatever I don't want, I may re-heat it and give it to the dogs. I am going to be defrosting my fridge and giving it a general cleanout today. Hopefully I'll get things looking neatly inside there again!

I am sorry Jillhill but I never throw out food. I cannot afford to. I baked cookies as well and got some from friends who also baked cookies. Yes, there are some that are left over. I put some in a tin and froze them in layers in the tin.The layers are separated by waxed paper so I can take out one layer at the time. They come in very handy for a few months down the road. Any other treats are also frozen or if in unopened packages given to my kids if they want them or given to a shelter for homeless people. I do have a batch of scones (teabiscuits) that I baked but for some reason turned out very bitter. Maybe I made a mistake with the baking powder. These I saved and will take down to the park to give the black and grey squirrels a little holidya treat.

I have stopped baking so much these days because it just set around and drys out. Or as you said it goes to wast either mine or into the garbage. My family really isn't into too many cookies any more. My granddaughter works at a baker in a grocery store so when they are closing for the Holiday she get things like cookies and cakes that would be thrown out so she brings them home so I can thrown them out after the big day.

Yes, I have some cookies I need to toss out, or give away or something, their still good, but I'll keep eating them if they stay around here, and I don't need to do that..lol. I also still have some strawberry cake, and some banana pudding that needs to go somewhere..lol. I sure hate wasting food tho.

Jill? I can't believe NO-ONE here suggested DONATING them to hungry folks! I was reared to believe one should never waste food, especially when there are hungry people! Some homeless shelter could make use of them, or a battered women's shelter, heck, if nothing else, feed them to the birds! Just don't WASTE them! Maggiepie

There is not a place here in my small town to donate them to....our Salvation army does not have a big facility....nor does it feed people on a regular basis. Giving these dried out things to the firemen.....no way! If I can't eat them they shouldn't have to choke them down. I tossed most of them out for the birds.
