I've played in bands, too. I can't stand listening to the song Iron Man, but jamming it out is a whole different experience. Like I've said I have jammed but do I jam now? No. But when I did it was awsome. All the drama that went along with it, like a soap opera, or the stuff that would go wrong during a show, and still march forth and make it happen, and smile about it afterwards. Plus, to me, it's always cool to jam with other people cause you learn how to get along with others. When I talk about this I'm talking about writing your own songs. Not everybody is going to see the song/story the same way you do. It's good interaction.
As for jamming out itself, I love to jam out on the guitar. I find that it's a good stress reliever. To me, it's good to get your thoughts out, sing them out at the top of yout lungs, or whispher them to yourself as secrets that need to be known. Whatever it may be.
When I play I feel like I'm the only thing that matters at the moment. Like it's all about me. Even though I know that this feeling is just only that, an feeling. It is an awsome experience!!@! I reccomend to everyone out there to play some type of instrument, or draw, or something, but that's a different topic.

yeap... i do play quite a number but i'm all half-past-six in them. that means i'm mediocre and not very fantastic but i can play a few songs fair enough.
i play the piano but gave up after grade 4 (studies took a huge time of my time)...
and basically i lost interest when my music teacher became more and more demanding..
guitar: my mum taught me and i picked it up a little in school. helped play in worship for about a year or two (but i stick with the normal chords.. not those pluckings and stuff)
harmonica: i went for class for this one. but gave up too. it was a hassle to keep washing my instrument with toothpaste to avoid having the saliva smell... hee
