Is there going to be a sequel to "The Golden Compass" Movie?

i finally saw it and i knew that its a series of books and obviously they cut the movie off to where there should be a sequel but i havent heard anything about any sequel being made.. hubby loved the movie so i figured i would ask and see if anyone had heard anything on it..
will there be a sequel? did the original do good at the box office? i dont remember if it did good or flopped but i do remember every one up in arms about the movie lol

I took my 10 yr old grandughter to see it and we both loved it..now if there is going to be a sequel we will be watching it, but haven't heard..maybe have to do a search on this and see...

i know they wanted it to be famous like harry potter but of course wasnt so i didnt know if they gave up or what

I do not know either. I hate it when they make a movie with a sequel in mind. But then stop short of making the sequel.
Now I am left hanging on the story that was started with no end in sight!
I sure hope they will make the sequel soon so that I can at least put a close to the open chapter that was opened when this movie was aired!
