How often have your kids surprised you with a show of maturity beyond their age?

My daughter bugged me for weeks and weeks. She wanted to see the movie Speed Racer. I put it off time and time again. She is only 5. I thought it wasn't a movie for her. Well I finally rented it. I sat and watched for about 10 minutes. I was very unimpressed. So, I left the room. My hubby continued to watch the movie with her for a few more minutes. When all of the sudden I hear "go tell your mother what you just said." I thought oh great.
My daughter comes in and says.. " mommy the Speed Racer movie is too violent. I don't like it. Can I go downstairs and play?" I was so surprised I gave her a hug and told her I was pleased with her decision. Have your kids surprised you with maturity?

Hello ersmommy. My brother-in-law's five-year-daughter sometimes speaks like an adult and is very funny for the words that she speaks.
Here is one of her stories:
There was one time when her parents took her to play in our house. When it was lunch time, she said to my wife, "Aunt, I would like to have lunch in your house today." My wife said jokingly to her, "The rice in our house is not good to eat because the quality is not good enough." Guess what she said, "I know, aunt doesn't want to have us eat in your house. That's why you say that the rice is not good. You are so mean, not generous at all." My wife and her parents had a good laugh over her words. We never thought that she would be so mature as to say something that surprises us. She is so cute and we love her so much for her being so playful.
I think that your daughter is now able to tell right from wrong. Good for her. Enjoy yourself, dear friend.

That is remarkably mature, yes. I think it is wonderful that she can articulate that she doesn't care for the violence.

On a few occasions it has surprised me with my little sister maybe it is the age gap me being 34 and her 7 and we do tend to baby her a bit so when she does come through with maturity it does surprise us alot and showing us she is growing up and we won't Be able to call her our baby anymore(since she is the youngest of 9 kids) She is teaching us stuff we didn't even know a few times. Now if we can just get her to stop watching Spongebob we will be alot better..lol

My daughter really hasn't shown me maturity and she will be 17 in February. She wants to be treated like an adult but she wants to do immature things almost all of the time.

It is amazing how wise they can be when they are so young.

I don't really remember any violence in that movie. Anyways, I let my 6 year olds watch it and they loved it.
I can't really think of any specific situations where my kids have shown maturity, but it does happen on a regular basis.
