What are the things you have splurged on in 2008?

As the year is about to end, all of us try to look back. We go over the things that we have done the whole year. Perhaps one of the things we overlook are the stuffs that we have spent much money on. Well, this is one of the things I have in mind at the moment. I am trying to go over all the things that I have spent a considerable amount of money on. Well, just like in the past years, I have spent a considerable amount of money on my travels. Of course this include all the things I also spent on while on travel. How about you?

Hi dolce_vita78! Nice to know that you have made yourself happy this 2008. I wouldn't call splurging on oneself an extravagance. I think one deserve it especially someone like you who really work hard. As for me, the only splurging I did is for the people I love. I guess, now that I am older my wants and needs have changed. I am happy when I put a smile on the people I love even if it means splurging of material things. Take care..and have a nice day! God Bless! lovelots..faith210

I bought a new laptop a couple of weeks ago, which was a more expensive model than I could have gotten. I'm a freelancer and don't make a lot of money, so this could have been considered a splurge. But I will use the laptop at least 50% for business, so I can write off part of the cost as a business expense. So my Uncle Sam (U.S. government) will be picking up some of the cost for me. Thanks, Uncle!

My husband and I have splurged on a bird and a cage. Even though we could have spent the money on something more worth while, I don't regret getting either as our bird has brought a lot of joy into oor lives.

I really didn't get to splurge in 2008. My biggest purchase was school books. Those really take a huge bite out of the budget. Next year will be my spending year. I am planning on remodeling the kitchen, redoing the bath, replacing the decking outside my home, replacing the carport roof, buying carpet and wood flooring, and buying some new furniture for the house. My biggest splurge would be a brand new laptop computer!!! If I have a few dollars left over my dream purchase would be a Janome 9500 embroidery sewing machine. I make teddy bears and the machine would be great for making their clothing. Maybe Bill (my BF) and I will do some traveling this summer, and I will have a few dollars that I spend on fun stuff, but nothing too expensive. I have had to be on a tight budget too long to just spend the money without planning way ahead.

We bought a new TV on boxing day and it was probably the biggest splurge we've done in a long time. We held off on buying Christmas gifts for each other and bought the one big ticket item instead. We are usually very conservative with our money so it was nice to buy something totally unnecessary but super cool for a change!

Well I'm not one to splurge on anything, ask my husband he says I'm a tightwad...lol. But I did splurge on a new couch this past year, we really needed one, the old one was a hand me down from his brother, but it had a hole in the middle and everytime you sit down on it, you would sink, then you had to get someone to help pull you out...haha. It sure hurt tho when I had to pay for it, that was alot of money for me to pay for something, but I'm glad I did, I like the new couch.

Hi dolce_vita78. Actually this is the last day of year 2008 and looking back, I am scaried by meyself. So much money was spent or I should have saved so much. Really a lot of thins that I splurged on. First, it's hotels. I met my bf in the mid-year and then we started dating. We have to stay in hotel as we work in different cities and we haven't bought our own house yet. From Shangri-la to my favorite holiday inn, expensive ones but we have great fun. Then it comes my laptop, a 12-inch thinkpad and I love it. It almost becomes my good friend, lol. The last I will say it doesn't deserve then momey coz it's bad for health. I spend too much on my hair. Having it done and dyed several times, ooops, which makes my hair not so shining as before. Well, I will spend more on learning @2009 and I've got so many things to learn, lol.

Well unfortunately I haven't been able to splurge on anything this year, because things have been really tight for me, but I hope the new year will bring some good fortune for me because 2008 has be really hard for me in many ways. well happy posting and happy new year.

We splurged on new cell phones. I do need mine for my business, so we did have to get new ones, but we didn't need to get the ones we did. However, by switching cell phone service providers, we did lower our monthly bill, so in the long run, so long as we are careful, we should save money. In the short run, it was almost painful to pay money for something when we could have chosen simpler ones and gotten them free. Still, we are finding the phones very useful.

I have not spent that much. Most of it was the stuff I needed. Now if you were talking about those candy packages and those licorace bars I would pick up when I was down at the bulk store, I really did not need them. After all, I really should be careful about sweets even if they were for diabetics, but the worse was that big granola peanut and sesame seed bar I just had to have. As for big stuff, I am scared to get it even when I need it. I have wanted a Cuisinart for so many years, a lap top, a good dvd player, a better printer, but I am too darn scared to get one of them. Must be being born in Scotland that keeps me from buying even one of them.

I also like travelling and thats eating most of my expenses. Domestic and some foreign travel. Mostly are domestic travel. You might say I am boasting but my travel to Europe is my best so far. It was a kind of seminar, a sort of scholarship from Spain Government and thats for two weeks, and all is free, of course I have to spend also some money for some food and other things. Madrid, Santiago de Compostela so beautiful, and yes we went to Portugal on our own budget and its nice. And before the year end I went to Macau on a promo price and its a nice place. And instead of staying in a hotel which will be expensive we just stay on some safe bed spaces. Travelling is eating most of my earnings. Happy travelling!

I have slurged on a lot of things this past year. We bought a guitar that we used for a week and than haven't touched it since. We have bought a wii and than used it about three weeks since we have had it for five months because of the lack of games. We have slurged on a lot of stuff . Honestly most of it was a waste of money. This year I want to have a year of a lot less spending and more saving money. And I would have rather spent the money on travel anyday and I wouldn't say that's wasting it either.

Movies. I love movies. We have a couple of pawn shops here that sell used VHS tapes for $1.00 and DVD's for $3.00 They even trade you two for one. On the one hand shopping there would be frugal entertainment if were weren't so easy to walk out of there with way more than I went in intending to buy!

The biggest item I 'splurged' on was buying a new home for me and my daughter. I was paying a mortgage on our old 2 bedroom home just outside of the city, but I decided that I'm careful enough with my income and I save quite a lot of my money each pay day that I had enough to buy a new 3 bedroom home for us to live in. Now we have a bedroom each AND I have my own office. i kept the old 2 bedroom home, by the way. I signed a tenancy lease on it and now a tenant is paying it off for me ;)
