I decided to go to my mom's on Sunday rather that for Christmas eve which is traditional. I went with Matt my boyfriend. My mother prepared a wonderful meal, we had wine and what is called a pottage, that was cooked vegetables blended in a blender with a little bit of cream as the appetizer, we had a piece of salmon pie and the entree and the main course was I don't really know what it is called, it is seafood in a cream sauce with mashed potatoes on top and then melted cheese on top of that, it was delicious, then for dessert there was fruit salad and cheese cake, and coffee. Matt enjoyed himself tremendously the food was excellent the company excellent and my mother even talked to Matt's mother over the phone. have you had a pleasant time with family or friends this holiday season?

Sounds as though You had a delightfully good time I am glad that you enjoyed yourself. The Holidays with my family was not a happy event. They were to much unhappy times that were brought up and bitterness that some family members won't let go of and kept bringing up all the bad stuff that has happened so it wasn't a good time. Christmas Eve stressed me out so bad that I slept all day Christmas Day no joke I did and didn't get up till the next day. But then I went to my brothers house and ended up staying the whole weekend since my other brother was in from Ohio and brung my niece who is having a baby in March and her finace. I thought it would be a good time but I was wrong. I am very hopeful that the year 2009 will be way way way way better then 2008 was.

Well they all came ot m house on Christmas eve. And I was only supposed to visit my brothers because my other brother was coming in from Ohio whom I hadn't seem in 5 years but he is the one who brought up things better left unsaid to everyone. Some just can't try to get along for the Holidays..I am glad your mom,you and Matt had a good time, I wish it was that way in my family again it used to be but I guess everyone changes and has problems of their own that overshadow what is supposed to be good times.

This sounds like you had a very joyous and happy Christmas and a wonderful meal. I am really happy for you. I like potage and make it often in the winter (creamed vegetable soup with cream). The main meal that you had was possibly a sea food dish that originated in the Gaspesie and is called Cipaille. The English in Quebec usually call it Sea pie. It is also made with layers of duck, moose and venison in regions where people hunt a lot. Ochch, I wish I had some right now.

no linda, I am half french canadian, and no it is not cipaille, I know that dish very well, I know there is a name for it and everyone would recognize it if they heard it but I just don't know what it is, it is more like a souffle Happy new year - bonne annee

forgot to say that there is no pie, no pastry dough in this recipe, we have cipaille or cipates or six parts every year, it is done in a pie.

I did my best to be on my best behavior around my brother and I think he did to. They did try to convince me to try eating corn, that maybe I'm not allergic anymore... I'm sorry, but if I eat something that might make me sick, why would I?

don't understand why they would want to convince you to eat corn if it makes you sick?

What type of food would this be, I am from Southeast La and we have done just about all there can be done with shrimp, but never heard of making a creme sauce and then putting mashed potatoes on top of it. And never heard of salmon pie. I love salmon and try to get a piece each time I do grocery shopping. I make a lot of salmon patties too. We eat dinner at my daughter's for Christmas. And it was nice, but everyone was in a hurry to eat so they could open presents, the kids I mean. So glad that you had such a nice time with your mom. We all deserve to have a special day once in a while.

That sounds great! It also sounds like you had a gourmet dinner. I don't know if I have been to any restaurants that sound as scrumptious as what you have described.

Happy to hear that you had a great holiday. My family enjoyed a nice dinner at some friends' house and it was also a nice dessert. My son did pretty well during the holiday season also. It is almost a shame that it will be over soon. That means I have to take down my Christmas tree!

I am so glad that you had a wonderful time with your mother. We enjoyed ourselves so much just being tofgether. One of my biggest thrills was seeing the twins literally jump for joy when they opened their first gift on Christmas morning. They literally jumped up and down - it warmed my heart. Thingsd are getting better as my son in the UK. is coming on Saturday and so for the next 48 hours before the daughter goes back to N.C. I will have 3 of my 4 children on the Island. Regretfully, my lovely DIL returns to Dubai on January 2 and we will miss her so much. I;m dreading the reaction from the twins when their mother leaves. At least their Daddy is here with me to comfort them. Blessings

To be honest, she is teaching in an International School in Dubai in the Middle East because of the huge salary that she is making, They pay for her apartment, and all her utility bills - the only thing that she buys is food. She is really making the sacrifice for her family. Because they pay her phone bill she calls the twins several times a day but they will miss her. It is not the best situation but my son (her husband) is living with me whilst she is there. She will be back in May until end of August. Thak you for your concern
