i got the handy man from hell and well long story short one of the things he was installing for me was a new ceiling fan in my spare bedroom and he put it in and it seems unbalanced because its making that thumping noise.. i called him back 3 times and he says he put weights in it to balance it but its not that its the ceiling fan being defective.. i think he is just being lazy since he did a crappy job on all the work but after having him in my house for 2 weeks last year i wanted him OUT and away from me and kicked him out.. well i think its just a balancing issue still but i have no idea how to balance a fan at all..
it was a brand new fan out of the box and unfortunately i had the fan for about a year or two before he installed it so i cant return the fan if it is indeed the fan..
has any one ever heard of a wobbly fan being the FANS fault and defective or is my handy man from hell just being lazy and leave??
if it is unbalanced how do i balance it?? i sure as heck am not going to call him back into my house to work on it and even though he did do horrible work he did not charge me for some of the work he did so if i turn him in i would have to pay for the stuff he did do right that he didnt charge me for..

A wobbly fan is always the fault on the balancing.
It could also mean that your blades are not tighten enough.
Try using a screw driver and tighten the blades to the fan.
For the balancing, I do not how to balance one either. Cos this kinda work requires some experiencing to recognise the blade that is causing the wobbling.
Try calling up the fan manufacturer to see if they can do anything for you. Check your warranty card to see if it is dated. If it is not dated, then try to get service for your fan by putting in a date on the card that will cover today's date as well so that your servicing fees will waived.

Aw geez, that is bad.
Why don't you try your luck by calling the manufacturer?
Maybe they may be able to help.
Just claim that you shifted home and you lost the warranty card when moving home. And see what they can arrange for you in terms of servicing.
Be nice and ask politely. Being patient at this point will go a long way in asking for help to waive off the fees for servicing.

I've had unbalanced ones because i don't think the screws were tightened right so i had my son check it out and put in a different one and voila..its perfect now..
Check the fan parts first..and if nothing wrong it could be the fan..I've even heard that weighting it down with pennies on the fans could help?? Don't know if so but try anything now and don't let that Man back if he couldn't tell you this or fix it for good..

try taping them to the end of the fan blades and see if they balance it..
