When I was a young child my grandmother would make strawberry shortcake. The ingredients weren't bought at the store and put together. Oh,no. The cake was made by hand, the whipping cream was made from the cream on top of the milk that the milkman brought to the door ever morning, and the strawberries were grown in the garden. So, do you have any memories of this delectible dish from your childhood? Say, the first time you had it?

my grandmother used to make strawberry shortcakes too and I miss it. The store bought just does not taste the same.
She used to make brown sugar squares but I really do not know how to make them, I have tried but they just do not come out right.

My grandfather used to make homemade pear butter. We had two pear trees in our back yard and every fall that's all our house smelled like, now every fall I have to have it. I don't remember the first time I had it but I know that it took me 15 years to get the recipe and that drove me nuts. Now I make it for him.
