My dog is restless...

Ginger, my labrador is not really feeling comfortable right now. She is irritated with all the noise from all those fireworks and firecrackers. I tried bringing her into our living room but still, she is not comfortable. Having been a dog-owner for years, I know that this is really how they react but still, I really pity my dog Ginger. Are your pets, particularly your dogs, show restlessness too when they hear such noises?

Hi dolc_vita78, I know how scared animals are of thes fireworks, my two cats love to be out but when they hear all those loud noise they just stay indoors with eyes so big, I had to cuddle them and tell them its ok. Tamara

tamarafireheart, i feel sorry now that i never noticed our cats to have been scared, too. it was only the dogs that got my attention because, they will really cry in fear, then hide in the cornermost part of the house where there is a corner table for added feeling of security.

My dogs gets the same way. He will go into the bathroom to hide to try to get away from the noise. He hates the sound of a toaster popping up bread, fireworks, gunfire and fireworks. He is also scared of thunder too.

I have two cats, a dog and a bird. The bird appears fine most of the time. Our dog does get frightened by loud noise and she is terrified of thunder and lightning. One of our cats is absolutely afraid of just about anything, even when someone new comes to the house she hides behind the desk or a cupboard; she may have been abused before we got her, I think. We try to make allowances for our dog when we entertain but it is difficult for her not to become too overwhelmed.

My dog, It is hard to believe, actually gets scared of the noises. He hides under the table and whimpers. Once the sound is gone, he is fine again.

I would have to say that the dogs that I owned did not get skittish during fireworks and such because they were trained as companion dogs (by me) and training them to be around an array of noises, such as thunder storms, gunshots, fireworks, loud vehicles, was just a normal day in their lives. Dogs are alot like children, if you do not take them out and get them used to all the wonderful noises in the world than of course they will be skittish. I used lots of love, patience, and of coure being stern in their training. I love dogs and know the restrictions you need to put on your life to have one and have it be comfortable in all surroundings. Sarafina50
