Do You Chew Betel?

Of course, this question is limited to mylotters of certain countries. In my place, many people chew betel as a habit or say as a culture, after their meals. Habituated persons also chew it many times in a day and many of them add tobacco with it, which is injurious to health! I also chew sometimes tobacco free betel for a change. In my local tradition, it is a symbol of hospitality along with tea among friends and guests! What about you? Please discuss!

I don't. I had an officemate before who used to chew betel. When I asked him how it feels, he said that it's just like smoking or drinking coffee that it gives him some satisfaction.

That sounds very interesting. I have never heard of it before and I live in the United States. I smoke but never heard of betel.

Obviously after a heavy meal - betel works great. In fact I'm contemplating to quit smoking shortly. So, it may be an option for me to pass some good time. Cheers!

betel leaves - betel leaves for chewing
I had to search what betel looks like since I am not accustomed with your custom. It is nice to hear about other cultures and traditions which happens in your country India. We don't have this custom. When a guest arrives home we invite him for a coffee or tea with some cookies.
