New year...New goals and I threw a fit. Ive signed up for the local half marathon on a whim. I have no idea why I did it but now I am and I have 12 weeks to get ready for it. 12 weeks to go from couch to over 13 miles. I guess Id better turn my computer off and hit the eliptical... Have any of you done anything like this before?

I have seriously considered it but I have never actually taken the leap. That might actually give me a reason to get my but going. I have been telling myself every night that tomorrow I am going to work out and, my day just gets so busy and I never get around to it. I really have to start working out again. I know I have put on a few more pounds, and I really did not need to. I thought my reunion coming up in July would motivate me, but I still have not started working out again. I really need to start taking better care of myself.

So its been 5 months since you posted this how did the run go? I would think if you decide to make a big goal like that you should know you should be in shape to do it and not just run on a whim. I am horribly out of shape and over weight so I was trying to do a running program thinking I could follow along at an 8 week one. I did the first week (3 times of running 1 mint, walking 6 mint 3 times a week) but when it came to week two I found I couldnt even do a 2 mint run 5 mint walk. So I am back to ground zero on week 3 and deciding to stick with week 1 if I have to but work my way up to week 2. How long it will take who knows. So good luck hope it worked out since this was a while ago. And many happy running days to you.

Hi Happythoughts. I really am into the same boat as you are. I want to get back into shape fast. I have gained back my old weight and I do feel bulky and a bit depressed. Having a good shape always makes you feel better about yourself. Good luck in your quest. (c) ronaldinu 2009 - the more people I meet-the more I love my dog

I know why you did it. Because it's something to get you focused on and to make you get yourself in good shape and to live a more fulfilling life. Losing weight or even just getting in shape is a life long journey. I myself have been going thru it as well. Some days are better than others and some days I want to eat everything in the house. Say focused and I know if you really want it you can do it. Actually now that you have made me think about it maybe I"ll join a local walk and jog or event of some sort to get to my fitness goals of my life. Thanks!
