Soylent Green - If You Haven't Seen It Since 1973, Watch It Again!

Since this is an old movie, released in 1973, I'm going to assume most of you who are reading this haven't seen it, in fact many of you weren't even born when it came out...lol! It was made in 1973 but set "in the future" - the year 2022, not all that far away now. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070723/ Soylent Green starred Charlton Heston, Leigh Taylor-Young, Chuck Connors, Joseph Cotten and was the final film of Edward G. Robinson who ironically played a dying man in this movie. To start a discussion here without giving too much away, is there anyone here who has seen it? What did you think? Annie

Oh please! I have seen it- several times! For its time it was quite something. Even today I think the premise is gross. But, it may come to that. And, 2022 isn't far off. Hmm??

I know, it's only 13 years away. God, I hope it doesn't come to that. I know for sure I'll lose weight if it does...lol! Annie

How ironic I was just thinking about this movie Soylent Green just the other day. I did see it years ago when it came out. I do remember Charlton Heston but din't remember who else played in it. I just remember a few scenes and the surprising ending. Any way it was a surprise to me. I would like to find it and see it again but don't want to buy it. I don't have any cable or dish TV so that's out. The horror films from back then were so different from what is made today. And back then they were scary.

You're so right, today most horror films are all blood and gore and special effects while back then they depended on talented writing and acting to scare the crap out of us. It worked - those kinds of movies scared me more, that's for sure! Annie

I know the basic premise of the movie, since various comedies over the years have referenced it. I've always intended to find it & rent it, but forget when I am looking at movies. I'll have to put it on the list now. I was born in 1972, so I definitely didn't see it when it was new.

currently 19 wasnt around when it came out however we do have it on DVD, makes you wonder if itll ever happen sometime in the future. seen it several times before, all the different soylent colours... what are they red, green, blue? something like that... i dont want to give it away now lets just hope it never comes to being the same in reality that would cause some serious problems.... "Eggs and bacon anyone?"

I think it was yellow and orange and the new, very special green. Eggs and bacon were things most of the characters in that movie had never tasted. Have you ever seen anyone so filled with joy while eating an apple? Annie

Hey annie! OMFG!I did see this movie! And it freaked me out when I saw it! I thought it came out alot earlier than that! I could have sworn that I was alot younger when I first saw it! I won't give any of it away, but it was a movie that really did a number on me for sure! I still swear that I saw it when I was a kid and I was 20 in 1973. Are you sure about the date? I don't want to say too much to give it away! It did freak me out though! Not a pretty picture of what could be to come! And glad I won't probably be around then to witness it either! Ewwwww!

I first saw the movie in 78. We had just had cable installed and the movie came on HBO or something the next day. I was so engrossed in the movie that I would not get up and go to the bathroom for fear of missing something. I have seen it several times over the years, and will, no doubt, watch it several more times over my remaining years. I think that answers both questions, doesn't it?*L* For those of you who haven't seen it..........what the heck are ya waitin for!?
