Do you spend money given as a gift right away?

I was given two gifts cards for Christmas from different family members and it is obviously well past Christmas and I still haven't spent either gift card. I'm not sure what I want to spend the one card on (it's a $15 gift card to Walmart) while the othet gift card is a gift card to Sheetz so I can get gas and stuff while I'm at school. Now, the Sheetz gift card pretty much sells itself. I can buy gas or snacks from Sheetz and use that card up pretty easily. However, I'm not so sure what I want to spend my gift card on from Walmart. I don't have any ideas as of now so I haven't spent it yet. I'll probably think about it awhile longer before I make a decision on what to buy. What do you do? Buy right away or really think hard about your purchase?

I usually don't buy anything right away. I'm a person who doesn't like to let go of their money unless I really need to or really want to. Usually that's when I'm treating someone out for the evening. I do try to calculate what to get though and often.

I really do not like to either unless I have a nice plan on what I want to spend it on. I have to make sure it's really what I want. Sometimes I don't spend it on stuff I want though. Sometimes I actually spend it on things that I need and I know a lot of people don't do that sort of thing.

Hi, normally I wait until I find exactly what I'm looking for before I use a gift card. I got one gift card this Christmas from my aunt to spend at nordstrom. I don't usually shop there because it is too expensive and I'd have to add extra cash. I prefer macy's because I can add another macy's card I have to add for the total.

i tend to spend the gift cards i get within a week or so of getting them lol! in fact both the gift cards i got this year for xmas have already been spent. the gift cards i get for Amazon or specific book stores are pretty much mapped out long before i actually get the card. since i have like a 3 page list of books that i want just waiting for those cards to be handed over LOL!

If someone gave me an Amazon gift card that thing would get spent rather quickly. I love Amazon and have a rather large wishlist so that gift card would not last long. The only problem I would have is figuring out what to spend the gift card on exactly.

To be honest it's been ages since I got a gift card from anyone...if someone sends me a "money" gift like my aunt it'll be a check. She once did the mistake of sending me a gift card for a gourmet candy shop but I couldn't use it at all since the particular store wasn't near me...and I couldn't use it for an on-line order. Try not to wait too long though about the Walmart gift card..If I'm not mistaken, most gift cards have an expiration date, don't they??

I know that some gift cards have like a year or so on them and if you don't spend anything on the card then they deduct so much from the card and then it continues like that every year or so until the entire balance is used up. I'm not sure if any actually have to be used by a certain time or it's not valid.

I've still got mine too. I've got a Best Buy and some Wal-Mart ones. I'll just wait for Wally Mart to restock their shelves and then I'll rampage the place.

I had 2 Walmart cards and 1 Kmart gift cards and I saved them and eventually gave one(Kmart) to my little sister who needs socks and pants and so she could buy them which she did and I kept the other two(Walmart) and used them to help buy Christmas gifts with them but I got them from a site I do for gift card rewards. I am getting another one soon(Walmart) and it might go to my mom for her birthday in February. Other times if needed I have bought household items I have needed like shampoo, toilet paper, water filters, detergent and dish soap. That is what is great about cards..You an use them for whatever you want..when you need it...or pass it along to someone that does.

I like to save gift cards for a little while, mostly because it's fun to pick things out and I like to spread out fun things so they last longer.

Usually I have those gift cards and monies as presents be rested in my purse for a while. One thing is like you, am not sure yet what to buy and when? Another is that am the kind of person who browse first before buying; I always window shop and try to find nice price for a good quality, un less I find one I won't be spending on anything. And lastly, I am always trying to make priority of my spending; what I need most specially what I need basically. I even remembered spending my gift card as my wedding gift almost 3 months after having it and I really did get a very good buy from it.

I tend to always hold onto my gift cards for awhile. I don't know why I do that. These days though with stores closing left and right it's probably a good idea to spend them sooner rather than later.

I would probably spend mines right away. I would just go to the store and walk around and then I would decide what I wanted to purchase. If I got it one day I would definitely make my purchase within that week.

If there's something that I really like and it's worth it, I will spend it right away.
