I got back from my new year's break in my hometown of Cornwall at my mum's last night and am only now getting around to taking the Christmas decorations down, the last one in the street, I am embarrassed to say!! I have taken most of them down and packed them away in boxes and am now having a break. The Christmas tree is laying in the hallway waiting for me to pack it away. I have left the paper chains up as it is my son's birthday on Tuesday and we shall be using them to decorate the hall with on Saturday when he has his party.
Have you taken your Christmas decorations down yet or do you leave it until the 12th night?

Doesn't everything look bear when they come down? I don't know which is worst seeing the decorations up after Christmas, feeling sad that Christmas has come and gone so quickly or seeing it all bear without them? Ours are still up, as are the whole town, no one seems to take them down till the twelfth night, which is Tuesday, so I guess people are making the most of them and by Tuesday they will or should have all have disappeared. Only seems like five minutes that they were going up!

Hi ya wolfie34
Christmas always does seem to pass quickly, I guess it goes with the saying that time flies when you are having fun!! In a way I find it nice when the decs come down because I can then push the settee back to where it was before the tree needed the extra space and then we have more room again but you're right it does look bare!
Thanks wolfie

The only thing I have left to do it to take the lights down off the outside of the house. The only other house on the street that decorated are the neighbors to our left and their decorations are still up. They have a front door wrap with a big snowman on it and they have not taken it down yet.

We actually just took then dowmntoday. My son came in form the U.K. yesterday and I wanted him to see the tree and the decorations. But today, my daughter and sons all helped so everything is down and packed away. The daughter leaves tomorrow for N.C. but my youngest son will be here until the end of January so I am blessed. Hi ya cynthiann
It makes the job so much easier when there are more of you to do it!! My mum helped me put them up and the boys decorated the tree but I was on my own taking them down and packing them away although my youngest did lend a hand with the tree and he is only 3, bless him.
Cheers chynthiann

Well, we only put out a Wreath and put out a few decorations around our place. We should think about changing the decorations, but as we have been very busy and then were gone over the weekend, just have not thought about it yet. Last year we left the Wreath up on our door until like April just because we never thought about removing it as we were so busy.

Normally I take my decorations down on the 1st of January. This year it was the 2nd though, because I wasn't feeling very well on the first. Mine are relatively simple to take down and put away. We also don't do any outdoor decorations, so that makes it even easier. I can't imagine leaving them up until 12th night.

Hello creativedreamweaver
Sorry to hear that you weren't well but glad that you are feeling better now. Luckily you weren't seriously ill or else you might not had got the decs down well past the 6th January and that wouldn't be a good start to the year eh? LOL

The only thing we really did this year was put up a Christmas tree and one strand of lights outside. The tree hasn't been lit for sometime and it's about to come down. I think I will end up taking it down tomorrow. It will be down before I head back to school anyway. I'm not sure what is going to happen to the lights though. Not sure if they'll stay up and we'll just unplug them or what.
One of our neighbors still has his lights up and turned on as well. It usually takes him awhile to decide that it's time to take them down. But I'm sure they'll come down rather soon.

we took everything down and packed it all up on saturday. ive gotten pretty quick and organized about how to go about it lol! course we only put the tree up and some lights in the living room and kitchen pass thingy. none outside this year.
its always a bit of a bummer to take everything down but at the same time its nice to have the whole thing over and done with!

Hello CinderInMySoul
I think I would have taken mine down on Saturday if I was at home all day but I wasn't so I made a start on the Sunday and the last of them I put in a box just this evening and I shall put them in the loft tomorrow probably!

I take decorations down right away. I don't see any reason for leaving them up. It is not a bah humbug thing either. When it is over it is over why prolong taking the decorations down that were put up for the holiday.

Hi there sunshinelady
Well I guess as there are 12 days of Christmas I suppose it is technically still Christmas until the 6th January and that is why most leave them up until then. I know that a lot of people put there decs up straight after Thanksgiving in the States so they would have been up for quite some time and like you say why not take them down after the actual event!
Thanks for your response

God no I took mine down straight after xmas the tree serves a purpose and once the pressies are gone then I think it makes everything look untidy so down they come until next year, people always says it is unlucky but I dont believe that.
