Last day of Christmas Vacation...Car accident

Today is the last day of Christmas vacation for the kids. They were supposed to go back to school tomorrow. Well, today, my youngest daughter and three of her friends were coming home from a shopping trip. The weather was bitter cold with freezing rain. They were almost home. They were about 2 miles away from my house. They slipped and slided on black ice. The car went into the ditch and the front of the car hit the trees. The car was totalled. The engine compartment was destroyed but the cabin was not crushed. The air bags went off. The teens were all wearing their seatbelts. Thank the Lord for watching over the teenagers. All four of them got out of the car safely. They were shaken up and upset. They each had cell phones to call for help. The neighbor lady that lived nearby ran out with blankets to keep them warm. Three ambulances, the police and the fire department responded to the accident as well as three volunteer EMS/Fire department officers. The parents of each teen came as well as many neighbors and friends. I am happy to report that all four teenagers came through this experience with no broken bones. There were contusions, small cuts and lots of bruises. My daughter took the worst of it. She hurt her ankle and is now on crutches. The girl that was driving is blaming herself and is very upset because her car is destroyed. All of us parents told her she did not need to blame herself. We thanked her for handling the car as well as she did. We could all tell that if she had not handled the car right this accident would have resulted in the death of one or more of the teens. I personally am glad she turned the steering wheel so the front of the car took the brunt of the crash. If she had not responded the way she did, the cabin of the car would have hit the trees first and the cabin would have crushed. This would have made it impossible for the teens to exit the vehicle. Their guardian angels were watching over them this day. Keeping them safe. Guiding their actions and responses. The EMS personnel and the hospital personnel were fantastic about keeping everyone calm. Have any of your teenagers or adult children been involved in a car accident? Is it hard for you, the parent, to be on the sidelines relying on other people to take care of your child(ren)?

I am glad your daughter is okay. Yes, they do grow up fast. My kids are now 28, 26, 17 and 16. It was the 16 year old daughter that was in this accident with her friends. I am so glad this happened during the day time. We had lots of light to work with. This could have been so different if it had happened at night.
