My Mother-in-Law's hints.

My Mother - in - Law hints at what she wants, but her sons don't get it. Last year, around Thanksgiving. She had a little bit of Duct Tape on her shoes. Then at Christmas, even more. Then on her birthday, her shoes were totally taped up with duct tape. Meanwhile her sons are saying, "I wonder what we could get her, she has everything?" So I told my husband, "her son," why don't you look at her feet? We brought her to a shoe store and let her pick out a couple of pairs of shoes. With only one pair, she would be doing the same thing in no time.
So do you have relatives that give hints? Do you give hints? Are they as obvious as this? Do people seem to be ignoring your hints?
What's funny, is at Christmas, she has a very small piece of duct tape on one boot. Her birthday is coming again. I mentioned this to my husband, and sure enough, he hadn't noticed it.
You see, she doesn't drive and to get to a shoe place is almost three miles away. She could call a taxi, but she likes to keep her money for other things. She lives in Saranac Lake which is often the coldest place in the North East, so it's not like it's a distance she can't or hasn't walked, it's just awfully danged cold.
So what do you think? New boots?

My husband wouldnt notice that.. but my mother in law DOES have everything.. i dont think she ever throws anything away.. and when you enter her house you say many many many pairs of white sneakers. . I was thinking about my ripped up shoes and if she'd miss a pair of those shiney white shoes if i left with a pair. LoL i didn't, but she DOES wear the same size. this so doesn't answer your question. but its an answer ;)

I inherited lots of shoes from my mom, who never went anywhere, but shopped from catalogues. Nice new shoes.

That's funny! My Mother-in-law takes the same size shoe as me, too. And I'm a 9 wide which is pretty unusual. My husband wants me to try on a pair of boots and bring them. I think she should shop for her own.

Hi writersedge. I think your idea to get your mother-in-law shoes was a great one. I don't have any relatives that give hints, they just come right out with it. I don't give hints either. I like your idea about getting her some new boots. After all, you guys have all that cold weather up there. Happy shopping.

I hope we can find some great boots for her. My husband just told me it's her 75th birthday, so we will need to think of some great ideas for her. Thanks and take care.

That is really cute, I think. Yes, get the lady some boots. I think she probably enjoys the shopping trip as well, just getting out with you guys. Have lots of fun.

That's what I say, but since his Mom and I are the same size, he wants me to just try on some and buy them. Her birthday is in February and she's trapped in that basement apartment most of the winter, I think she'd like to get out. We used to take her out to eat, but whatever she orders, she doesn't eat more than two bites. Take care.

Hi writersedge your mother in law is very lucky to have you since it was you who noticed that she needs to buy a new pair of shoes. Unfortunately my parents do not hit at anything they need so it is a guess work whatever they needs. So I leave the onus on my sister to buy something which my parents need.

Well, maybe they do hint, but you don't notice or maybe someone who is around them more notices what they need. It's good that your sister can figure it out.

Yes I know about the hints, I throw them at my birthday and at Christmas, hoping someone will listen or pick it up. This year they even ask what do you want for Christmas and I told them and they said that is not a christmas present. Well the way I see it is, I owuld rather have something that I can use than another dust collector. I did drop a hint that my son's g/f picked up on. My monitor was going out and had about 3 inches of lines across the top so it made it hard to see all the screen.
I was called by my son and told they was on their way over, so I got the computer going and turned the monitor on and there was the lines. I can hit the top of the monitor and sometimes they will go away for awhile. When they arrived she ask me how in the heck you playing with those lines, I sai it is hard but nothing that I can do aobut it. Must of worked she bought me a new monitor for Christmas, one of those skinny flat one, LCD I believe, I love it. So hints do work.
Yes apparently she was trying to let someone know she could use a new pair of shoes, and it was good of you to get what she needed instead of that funny little vase or picture to hang on the wall, something she had no use for.
I wanted a OGLOVE, to get stuff out of the oven and they said that wasn't a present. It is when I am burning my fingers.

My kid brother gets me oven mitts for X-mas quite often, whenever mine start to look ragged. Many have X-mas designs on them, so I don't see why they think that isn't a Christmas present? Other than gold, frankensense and myrrh wouldn't make sense to us today, so who knows what people are thinking.
Do you have an aloe vera plant? They work pretty well when I burn myself, but with knew mitts often, I seldom do that.
Sounds like she took the hint and a skinny screen, I envy you. My huge monitor takes up so much of my desk that my hands hang off the keyboard into open space. So now you have more room, too. Cool, very cool. Take care.

LOL! My husband would probably not noticed either. I have to tell him all the time to get things for his parents. He either doesnt listen to the hints or he doesnt notice the hints. What is wrong with men?

I don't know why a person who is visual, like my husband, has to be told by someone who is auditory, like me, to look down and see duct tape on her shoes or boots. I guess when it comes to presents, they have a blind eye. Thanks and take care.
