The first book you read yourself when you're little

When I was little, my mother always read me books, but sometimes she felt asleep when she read me stories, so I promised myself that I should be able to read the book myself. I still remembered the book, it was the Cinderella's book and I loved it so much. You can't imagine how happy and proud I was when I was able to read myself. What was your first children book you read yourself. Not only reading the title and seeing the pictures but the one you really read from the beginning and finished it. Do you still remember?

I don't remember the tittle but it's about Asian tales, contains the original tales from Asian countries like Myanmar, India, Japan, Indonesia and others. Indonesia present stories about the race between a mouse deer and turtles. The captious mouse deer, after deceiving other animals like crocodile, at the end being deceived by the turtle. The mouse deer challenge the turtle in a run race, feeling confident it will beat the turtle very easily. But finally the turtle win the race....you know why the turtle win, right?

I remember that one and I still remember the story very well, it was so much similar to the story of the rabbit and the turtle, right? But I don't remember that I have a book about that mousedeer's story. I love the story about mousedeer's adventure my father always told me as a bedtime story though. Nice to see you here, Sutan :)

I don't remember specifically which book was the first book I read when I was young, but I remember I had this ABC book when I was young. I loved to flip through the book and look at the pictures, as well as the alphabets. That was when I was about 2 or almost 3. There were times when I would pretend that the ABC book was a piano book, put it on the piano, and pretend to be playing professionally (like a performer) haha! After the picture books, I moved on to read the Peter and Jane series...until when I was about 4 or 5. Then it was Enid Blyton books for me from 4+ till I was 7 or 8. After that, I read Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, and the other books...I still enjoy reading until now, and I will continue to read more in the future(:

Diansinta... nice to see you here. :) thanks for participating. Well.. yeah, my mom was a working mom too, but I love listening to the stories so I usually wanted her to do that for me. But she kept falling asleep. Enid Blyton was great, I always love her books, she could make the story interesting and... sometimes I thought it was kind of fantasy, at least for me, because there were no such place in Indonesia. LOL.

I remember the book I read first very well. It is still with me, and I have kept it carefully as a treasure. It was a Bengali book, and the name is, "Rupkathar Rajkanya". Very few of my mylot friends would understand the meaning in Bengali, so I would write about it. It was a fairy tale collection, and I read it from the very first page, the cover page actually, and to the end.

My dear friend, me too. When I was a kid, my father used to read me stories before I asleep. At that time, I really wanted to read the book myself, the reason was the same as yours, my father would fall asleep before me. So when I began to learn the words I began to read the book myself, an interesting thing. The first book of mine is named The Legend of Ancient China, I don't konw if my translation is right or wrong, ^_^ hope you konw that. :)

I have heard about the book. I am a Chinese as well, so my father told me a lot about the Legend of Ancient China, but never seen the book physically. I believe the book must be very interesting and you must be very smart to read those kind of book when you're younger.

Oh, boy...digging through my memories can be difficult. I don't think I can remember exactly whats the first book I read. I know that when I was between 4-5 years old, I finished reading a complete 10-volume of Bible Stories. Then, when I was 7, I was gleefully slugging through Young People's Encyclopedia, I can't remember if I finished all 20-volumes. My family still teases me about that. I cant' believe I did that. Half of the words I probably did not understand, but I just keep reading. Then when I was 9, I picked up my first fiction book. I think it was a paperback romance novel. Thats when I changed sides. From then on, fiction, most especially, romance novels, has become my reading staple.

LOL. So it was the kid's bible with more pictures than the words. I used to get one like that when I was younger but I never finished it. Even as an adult, I have never be able to finish the bible. Not even once. Any version. LOL. You're just great.

Oh wow... You were a bookworm kid back then. I couldn't read bible when I was 4-5 years old because the font was too small and I don't know how to read the difficult words there. I think I only read the children books with lots of pictures in it when I was that age. LOL.

When I was little, I have a collection of books on Disney Adventure like Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast and others. I can't really remember what book I was able to read first but I do remember that it was my grandma who taught me how to read.

I think we read the same book when we were little. I mean, I read those Disney's books as well, so I know what you were talking about. But it wasn't my grandma who taught me how to read. My babysitter taught me how to do that, I asked her to because my mom always fell asleep when she read me books, so I would rather read it bymyself.

I don't remember the actual name of the book, but I am sure it was a Dr. Seuss book. I loved those rhyming stories when I was a kid. Well, as a matter of fact, I still love them now. I even have a jean shirt with Dr. Seuss on it. When the last Dr. Seuss movie came out, I took my 4 nieces and nephew to see the movie. My brother couldn't believe I was taking them all 4 by myself to the theatre. It was a great time! I also like it when people make rhymes similar and put them on shirts. Thanks for starting this discussion and have a great day.

I have never heard about the Dr. Seuss book. I think I have heard it before but my mother didn't give me that for my reading material. I was living in the world of princess and the magical world of Disney's. LOL. So all I can remember was all the Disney's characters. I still have those Disney's Children books now at home. But yeah, the ryhme in the stories would always be something interesting for kids.

Well when I was little my mother never read to meSo when I was old enough to read I read all the time. My very first book I remember reading from start to end was Dr. Suess's Green Eggs and Ham. I loved that book and I remember reading it at least once a month. Heck I had to even walk by myself to the library because my mother wouldn't take me.At least i can say that all my achievements come from within myself, I was my only support system!

I know it would be hard to remember things like that because it happened long time ago, but I believe it would be nice to know that. But talking about the Nancy Drew's book, I remember that I used to love Enid Blyton's book as well. A little bit differen though but still loving them so much.
