pacifiers and bottles at 4

What runs through your mind when you pass a kid in the grocery store and he/she is sucking on a pacifier. I say fine, if it's a baby, But what about a kid that looks at least four?! I think it's ridiculous, and I've seen it. I've even seen older kids sucking down milk in baby bottles. What is wrong with that picture? Am I crazy or does anyone else agree with me that it's ridiculous?

I think it is totally ridiculous. I had a friend that 5 days before kindergarten her daughter was sucking on a pacifer and I thought it was nuts. She finally realized that the little girl thought that breath spray was "hot" so she sprayed breath spray on it and the little girl would not touch it. It worked but she walked around with it in my mouth for 5 years!! I do not get it. Both of my children were off the bottle by 9 months and their pacifer was gone by a year old. If you throw them away they cannot suck on something that they do not have to suck on. But that is my opinion and I know others have different opinions than I do.But it drives me crazy.

I agree with you friend, a 4 years old child sucking that pacifier is not good anymore at his age. They are no longer a baby they are toddlers that know how to play outside. Many things in their mind to feed for that ages and probably they are going to school for their studies. Most of this ages goes to nursery schools and they are mature in their age as a child not a baby sucking still their pacifier. But it was fine just let their mommy give some tips.

I think it is laziness on the part of the parents and it just looks bad. We have 7 kids and are raising one of our grandbabies. She is now just 2 end of last month and is on a regular cup unless we go somewhere and then it is sippy cup. I think to if a child is having them at the age at what age will they be potty trained? I'm finding that loads harder. LOL! The other day I saw a kid probably about 8 flipping that he didn't want to walk he wanted in the back of the cart! Yep you got it, the mom let him.

My 19 month old son has spina bifida and he crawls around because he is unable to walk. He needs catheter care so he will be in nappies for longer than all other children I imagine. He still has soya drink formula in a baby's bottle. I wish he could manage to drink from a beaker or a cup but he gets so very upset and spills his drink all over the place. Hopefully he will manage to give up his baby's bottle soon. However I wonder when. I think it is strange to see a 4 year old with a baby's bottle and a dummy.

My grand daughter who is 30 months still sucks on a pacifier or soother as they are called in my country. we were getting her to just have oit to nap or to go to bed at night but her Mommy has now left to work in Dubai and she wants it all of the time. So I figure that she needs the comfort until she gets used again to the fact that her Mommy has gone back to work. Her twin brother hasn't used one for over a year - although he teases her sometimes by trying to take it away from her.LOL They came to live with me when they were exactly 2 years and the first thing I did was to get rid of their baby bottles and give them their milk in sippy cups. This wasn't a problem. Blessings

Sounds like a parent who is either too lazy to cook a decent meal for their child, or doesn't want to take the time needed to wean them off of it. Our pediatrician told us that our daughter needed to stop using a bottle at 1 yr. So we started weaning her to a sippy cup at 9 months and by her first birthday she didn't use a bottle at all. She now switches randomly between a sippy cup and a cup with a straw 16 months old. I'm so proud. She does still use a pacifier, but only for naps and bed. Hopefully she's off it by the time she's two. Poor kids though. They probably have horrible teeth. Some parents...*shakes head*

I completely agree. It's laziness on the parents part. This is why I never started my child off on pacifiers at all. Actually I did with my first, and that's how I learned my mistake. But he was 6 months old when I broke him of it.

Well, my baby is 4-months-old now. I prefer him to suck on a pacifier than his little thumbs or putting all his fingers into his mouth. But, I agree that a kid of 4 sucking on a pacifier is just not right! I hope my boy can get rid of the pacifier when it is time.

I would certainly have to agree with you on this one. I can not stand watching a toddler running around with a bottle or pacifier. I have 8 kids and could not imagine them doing this. It is also supposed to wreck their teeth. My kids were all bottle and pacifier free by the age of 2 and a half at the latest.
