Why on earth do the lemon scented cleaning products smell so bad? Afterall the lemon, the fruit, smells nice, so why do those artifical scented products smell nothing like lemon? They actually make me feel sick and I just cant use any product that is lemon scented. Is there any scent you dislike?

I so agree! And usually for dishwashing lemon scented soaps, when it comes in contact with the food and grease in the dishes, it starts to smell so bad that you end up re washing everything!LOL! Melon scented works better for me.

I think you answered your own question, my dear! The lemon scented products that became the rage of many years ago, were actually true lemon scent! Nowadays they are artificially manufactured scents! For many years, the Federal gov't subsidized lemon groves (farmers) to grow lemons! It began during the second World War, as they were used to fight scurvy! After the war, the market was created with the manufacturers for lemon scented products! When subsidies ran out the farmers began to grow crops such as avocado, kiwi, oranges, persimmon, all that were more marketable. So a market was created for lemon scented products, and then the supply ran out....so now, all scents are artificial. Good question! Hope this sheds some light...the story is much more interesting but that's the basics! Cheers!

Altho I live in British Columbia, the reason I know this story is that I have a very dear friend (whom is 83 years old) who lives in Southern California, and he was one of those farmers! And still, at his age, he is a very active grower of kiwi and avocado! It is possible to cold-press the oils from the skins of lemons to add to your furniture oil, etc. Cheers!

I agree, lemon dishwasher detergent is especially awful. The only other really nasty one I can think of is pine scented cleaning products. It's like the chemicals already had a slight lemon or pine scent so they just went with it, and ended up with something that smells exactly like what it is - lemonish or pine-ish smelling chemicals. It might be a little weird but my favorite scent for cleaning products is actually bleach. I just think it's the cleanest smell in the world!
