Do you get sentimental when you hear you and your ex's "song" played?

You're out and about, possibly with friends or family, enjoying yourselves. The music is playing in the back ground when your ears picks up the sounds from the background...it sounds so familiar? Why? Then, you piece it together and realize, "Hey, that used to be our song!" Is your day ruined because of those old memories resurfacing or have you been able to walk past those memories and live your life like you should? With your head held high? *Pleiades

I do in most cases. It is hard sometimes cause my hubby will be sitting right there and I can't exactly get emotional. You know what I mean?

Maildumpster...you're right. Men are sensitive creatures and they want to think they're IT and there's no other man out there...hehe. *Pleiades

At least you've had a man to dedicate a song for you. I've had one man do that...and he was the first man to ask me to marry him. Luckily, I didn't. *Pleiades

I see what you're saying...especially since songs these days are hard to understand their words. *Pleiades

My so-called ex and I didn't have a song, but there are songs that are kind of associated with him, like Live's "Lightning Crashes". I love that song and even if I do get reminded of my ex, I essentially get more sentimental about the person I was back then and the period of my life it was significant in. Don't give two hoots about my ex, lol. It's not the song's fault I first heard it sung by him. It's still a good song.

No song, eh? Well, even if you have a song associated with him is kinda the same. Thank you for taking the time to answering this discussion...and for pointing out that there's more than one way of being connected with a song. *Pleiades

It kind of depends on my mood when I hear it. It used to break my heart all over again, every time I heard it. But it's getting better. Sometimes it's just a really great song that had a great moment in a great movie (our song was Something by the Beatles and its in one of my favorite scenes in Across the Universe) and other times it almost literally makes me sick to my stomach with sorrow. They talk about having that one lost love you never quite get over, and about the "one who got away." He is both of those.... unfortunately, in some ways, because I'd like to be able to know I can hear "our song" and not fall apart, no matter what my overall mood is at the time. *sigh*

Sounds like you're one of those rare people that will be affected by the past. The only thing you can hope for is he's just as miserable as you, eh? Hehehe... *Pleiades
